Taryn,

Just wanted to let you know that you and all my other online friends have
convinced me to meet with this Keith guy, do you know who I mean? I've been
wanting to talk to him for a while anyway, and thanks to a couple people's help
in connecting us, it's going to happen. It turns out he's not too far away from
the area and is willing to meet me somewhere. It was actually kind of funny -
he said he trusted me because the police were coming down on me now, too. I'm
not sure I follow his logic, but hey, whatever works, right?

Have you heard how Iris Page's "Devil Hunt" gimmick went wrong on Friday night?
I wasn't there, but from what I hear, it didn't work out quite like she
planned. I guess there were a few dozen people gathered there, outside of the
old Emporium store (I still have trouble thinking of it as "her place"),
thinking the whole thing would be scrapped because of the bad storms we'd been
having all day long and that were projected to continue. Somehow though, the
weather held off long enough for them to actually set out into the Pine Barrens
- maybe they all did some kind of anti-rain dance, or were carrying the right
crystals or something. Whatever, it got the Hunt underway and into the woods,
where everything started going wrong.

I've heard different versions from different people, but supposedly the guide,
Jack somebody from over in Pemberton Twsp., was being overly dramatic, telling
everyone that they had to be quiet and walk in darkness and the like, when
someone began screaming at the back of the line. The people at the back claim
they heard something moving in the trees just to their right, and a couple of
them even claim to have seen a large hairy thing running away when they turned
on their flashlights quickly. Everyone else in the back says they're crazy
though, that nobody really saw anything.

Nobody but Phyllis, that is. While everyone else was looking backwards, Phyllis
claims, and she told me this part herself, that she just so happened to shine
her flashlight to the front, where she saw a man standing in the trees not too
far away. It wasn't just any man though, she swears it was Wes Keeler. Her
screams then caused another commotion, and the expert searched the area and
found no trace of anyone. Iris was near hysterical (wouldn't you be if you'd
seen a ghost?) but they got ready to go on with the Hunt when the sky opened
up, with sheets of rain and steady bolts of lightning, too. And that was all
she wrote for the Iris Page Devil Hunt, as everyone ran cursing back into town,
the event a total bust.

Although the rain and the earlier screaming wasn't her fault, she's not too high
on everyone's lists right about now. Especially Sam's. The Wes thing, the
"sighting", has just about pushed her over the edge with Iris. I don't want to
be around when she gets to tell Iris what she thinks of it all.

OK, I've got a lot of other emails to answer yet tonight so I'm going to go.
Thanks for your support and concern.

Dale

Josh,

Thanks for the words of reassurance. I'll tell my doctors at Klepsydra when I
get there that Dr. Newberry has declared me totally sane.

I joke to cover up my growing concerns though, as everything continues to
deteriorate in Aglaura. Have you heard how Iris Page's "Devil Hunt" gimmick
went wrong on Friday night? I wasn't there, but from what I hear, it didn't
work out quite like she planned.

[EDIT - removed stuff about the Devil Hunt that is part of the "form letter" that was already posted - kona]

Wow. I can't begin to tell you how much that image of yours helps put some thing
into perspective. The black circles in the southwest corner of the map are
almsot exactly in the spot where a lot of strange things have happened,
including where I found myself in the woods that time after one of my trips out
to Ash Grove. it's also where that police inicdent a few weeks ago was, at least
in the same general area. And now the latest thing to happen there - the Devil
Hunt.

LOL I love the part about the anti rain dance!

Sam is mad at Iris for pretty obvious reasons. I think Dale made a mistake by saying phyliss in the email

The thing is I cannot find any obvious reason, that's why I asked Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Because Iris planned the hunt on the date of Wes' death.

I thought it was his birthday? Not to mention that Wes "Just happened to appear" on the hunt. Or that it might seem that Iris is trying to replace Wes by taking over his store and all...

Got the same email (mostly) from Dale. Here's the "personal" part:

Quote:
Even after all the reading and research I've been doing into all these same topics, your email still left me scratching my head for quite a while. I actually printed it out and laid in bed for a while reading certain parts over and over again. This stuff is just too out there to comprehend right away. Unless your Einstein, I guess. As luck would have it, it's getting late again as I write this reply, so I'm not even going to try and force my mind to deal with anymore now right now, and move on to simpler things for a bit.

Here's what I had sent him:

Quote:
As always, you finish your emails with a bang and leave me wanting more.

Ever since all of this began I've compared things that happened to chaos theory and the concept of multi-universes. Who is to say that what you are experiencing isn't some kind of glitch in the usual flow of the universe. Or maybe you've got the ability to tap into these things.

Everything that is happening is pushing you toward certain signs. As it said in the passage you quoted - ride the chaos. I think you're doing that now - to an extent - but it's like "wilders" or other such individuals we read about in fantasy where the person has the power - just not the training that they need to harness it. It's a shame that Digitalis wasn't more explicit in his messages to you. Why do mystics, gurus, and even wizards have to speak in allegories?

One thing I would like to see you do - if you can do it in safety and not risk being apprehended - is to meet with Sarah and maybe even Sam. There is so much you have in common with Sarah - maybe it's time you and she really looked into what is going on. I know that she is fragile right now - but there is power in knowledge. The next step that you've been pointed to is History. Maybe you need to delve into that - along with Sarah's history.

As you see, the warning to turn back and not read further hasn't done much good with me. And I'm sure there are others out there who feel the same.

Only one word of caution. Along with "wishes" comes the Law of
Unintended Consequences. Something to think about.

Sandra

We don't really have Iris's side but my guess is she is mifted that Sam isn't as 'cooperative' as she would like.... if you read through the emails from Sam you see her perspective.... here are a few quotes....

June 18th
Quote:
I know what you mean about stressful weeks! I've been working on finishing the website for the Unnatural Emporium and let me tell you -it hasn't been easy dealing with Iris Page.

July 7th
Quote:
Of course, there's one person in town who doesn't quite get the concept of being thankful. I've been helping her do her website as a favor and she hasn't even had the decency to say thank you. Instead, she watches over my shoulder and goes on and on about how she doesn't think she really even needs a website and how e-commerce will one day be the death of courteous salesmanship.

July 11th
well her whole email is venting about Iris and can be found here http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15831 and her July 17th email there too....

So my take from Sam..... 1) Iris has been unappreciative and yet demanding with the design of her website 2) Iris while digging through Wes's stuff has been insensitive..... asking too many 'personal' questions.... 3) She claims to be 'honoring Wes' but Sam doesn't see it that way..... Wes used to do the Devil Hunts and to have one on his birthday was inappropriate in Sam's eyes 4) AND it may just be as simple as she said in her July 17th email 'That woman just really pushes my buttons sometimes, ya know?'

Thank you for putting all of that together. I'm also wondering if there wasn't more between Sam and Wes than she lets on. I asked Dale about it in my last email to him. that might help explain some of Sam's ire.

clarification re: the Wes sighting during the Devil Hunt.

I got the same Dale mail today. (Yay)
I italicized the only part that was different .

So, it was Phyllis who saw Wes.
And Sam is further upset with Iris for
A: running the hunt
and
B: telling everyone that the sighting of Wes really happened.
