Good job, good job!! Hmmm...maybe we need to think of an item used in construction?? Like a hammer?

could be, I'm also thinking we should be looking for the 'building blocks' of a network. I've tried any number of combos so far. Even gigaPoPs which is the name given to an Abilene network node.

So infuriating, great work, so close but yet no cigar yet. Have tried every word I can think of related to building networks or actual buildings. Still brick walling (and yes ive tried bricks! ) Evil or Very Mad

<Double posted to make people aware>

Ok the picture is now updated with the word Syn at the bottom right...

Im guessing Syntax:

# the grammatical arrangement of words in sentences
# a systematic orderly arrangement
# studies of the rules for forming admissible sentences

Maybe we transcribed or translated incorrectly

Actually, isn't syn. usually the abreviation of synonym.
Maybe we only need "construction object" -> ??

Yeah, good catch cvk.. we're just onto that now ourselves. Any ideas of a synonym? I know Russ has tried brick, and probably a dozen others knowing him.

We did check my grammar, and it is correct as far as I can tell. So I'm going with synonym.

Sorry for the double post, wanted to make sure everyone got the update.

I've finally solved the abilene and 3 branches puzzles:

Abilene:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Doing a contrast fill on the map yields invisible ink cyrillic words. It means project. Entering that (without extension) takes you to the three branches screen.

The three branches puzzle:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

There were 3 web branches that got us to the 3 branches screen. The directory names were 'terminate', 'sewer' and 'project'

The obvious combo works... terminate the sewer project

That's their goal.

On to a new puzzle! I'll post it in a sec. Holy crap my head hurts.

Ok, the new puzzle is obviously picture based. It can be found at:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.landalan.org/project/colors.html

But wait! There's more.. on a hunch, I figured each of the three branches might lead somewhere new... and it does! Puzzle Cornucopia!

We also have (from terminate.html):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.landalan.org/terminate/maze.html

And from sewer.html:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.landalan.org/sewer/log_updates.html

Ooooh I'm giddy.

I've just been looking at the ISP Compliance puzzle, which has a number of (surprise) ISP names "hidden" in it. I've found AT&T, Savvis, Qwest, Verizon, Level3, and Sprint, and can't find any others like NTT or SBC...

[EDIT] "NTT" is Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, silly me.

It looks like it may get down to a hex string once enough ISPs are marked.

Just to let you know, the "GOOGLE?" part should be added to that list since they are providing free wireless access around them, hence the question mark, hehe.
So that takes the lower line out.

I'm shocked i never checked that new picture update for the map, heh.
I done it with the other two versions, even the continents! Laughing
That colors thing is confusing though, can't get my head around that at all.
I've tried coloring the dots, tried inverting, tried a few others, can't find anything useful.
edit: also tried rainbow.html and /rainbow/

I figured the "Google?" line was out as either a provider or a suggestion -- as for the rest, I think it might just be the Tier 1 ISPs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tier_1_ISP) in which case I've now got them all highlighted.

The text left behind is: e5di2ps7rcge9ln4$b8t1c6ab

And, of course, the date above still hasn't been addressed.

ok, we busted the Colors! puzzle only to find another under it...

here's the solution to the image puzzle:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

using photoshop or The Gimp, use a medicine dropper tool on the small dots in the background. Use the hex value of each color, concatenate them, and you'll get a message... a riddle:

I see the whole world, a boy and a girl,
Gender is no barrier to me.
Vega at ten, a castle, a den,
And back home just in time for some tea.
What am I?

we are trying the same method with the large dots.....

Just for reference, the text on this page is:

Welcome operative, you are now receiving updates
<<Please help me get out>>
Mulai-Hassan doesn't know what's going on. The pirates have scared him and he is pulling his collective will together at the moment. I don't think we have anything to fear from him presently.
<<They will destroy the internet>>
Mulai-Hassan still feels entitled to Tunis' sewers. Recall that Mulai must accept our suzerainty before they will receive results. In the mean time, provide him with dummy data collected from the puppeteers. They'll be wanting the information about the direction of flow in the sewers.
<<As it is today>>
Next update: 1155020400

Anyone got any ideas on how we pass along our "dummy data" and the sewer flow to Mr. Hassan? I wonder if one of the pirates is our missing Shrub? lol.

Arrrgg - I catch the flu and sleep for a day and look what happens!

Congrats and good work all Very Happy - will get stuck in, tho my head still feels like mush Wink

Storyline theories :

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As some 'meta story' comments : as mentioned before in the trailhead I think this is related to the WSIS UN summit in Tunis 2005 on information societies. Therefore the 'sewer' would be the internet, 'Mulai-Hassan' would be the UN, 'pirates' refers to internet pirates, etc. The 'dummy info' being supplied would be coutesy of whatever research/survey organiztions (puppeteers) the 'bad guys' control (anyone wanna take a guess at their identity?).

As to 'next update' might try formatting it as an IP or similar (or is it too long?).
Edit : only way to format as an IP that I can see is 115.50.204.00 - have no idea how to apply it tho.
Edit two : asked someone who has some idea how to use em and tried it - no joy Sad
Tried turning it into 11 55 02 04 00 or 115 50 204 00 ascii and no joy either.
