[UPDATE] Mystery Town July 24th

Peter has updated mysterytown.com, describing his trip to Aglaura this weekend. He didn't hook up with Dale, but he met Sam and Mayor Dobbs, and took a look at the remains of the Library. Unfortunately he didn't see whatever Phyllis saw at the Devil Hunt.

July 24th

Welcome back, fellow MysteryTown citizens. This morning, I'd like to bring you a tale of mystery, intrigue, and romance from the heart of the Pine Barrens.

Actually, my trip to Aglaura was not nearly as interesting as the Woods Walker advertised. In fact, about the weirdest thing I saw all weekend was this stop sign in the middle of the woods. It seemed really out of place, especially since it was posted near some railroad tracks that I don't think really went anywhere. I'll post pics of it here; at least it's something. I did have a little bit of an adventure though, in spite of myself.

Before I set out to meet the crew for the Devil Hunt, I decided to scout around for a place to sleep. That Dale guy never did email be back, so I dropped by the town hall to see about getting a room someplace cheap - a hostel or something maybe - and that's where I met a girl named Sam. Sam is...interesting. There's something about her that makes me want to tell her all about me, and I normally don't do that. I told her I was still trying to find a place to spend the night, and she immediately brightened up. She gave me a place to crash...at her boss's place. Denied.

The Devil Hunt certainly had atmosphere. The tour guide (if he was the Woods Walker I'll eat my hat) had us walking blind through the woods, holding hands like those kids in Tom Sawyer. At some point someone at the back of the crowd starts screaming, and then Phyllis - that's a friend of the new-age chick that organized the hunt - starts babbling about how she saw a man out in the woods. I helped her look around a bit, but there wasn't anything. I think she believes she saw the ghost of the man who used to run these Devil Hunts in Aglaura. For once, I hope she really believes she saw a ghost. It would be really uncouth to grandstand about something like that.

So after all the screaming and the crazy Phyllis stuff, we finally get near the place we're going and it starts pouring. I didn't have an umbrella, so I jogged all the way back to my car and drove over to the boss's place. But apparently he was at the hunt too and had an umbrella so I had to sit outside wet and pitiful waiting for him to show up.

So the next morning I'm eating breakfast at the boss's place and I just can't shake the feeling that I'm missing something important. I mean, the guy is asking me fifteen million questions about Mystery Town and civic forensics and he's not even stopping to talk about himself. So finally I ask him, "And what do you do?" Oh man. Duh, Sam works for the City - her boss is the freaking mayor.

I wanted to leave right then and there, but Mr Dobbs (ahem, Mayor Dobbs) wanted to take me to some "educational" site. There's a building in downtown Aglaura that burned down recently. Actually, I think it was the Library building. I didn't think about it at the time, but now that I'm writing this I think it must have been. So I'm out there, poking around, not really into it - I was feeling kind of gross because I was still wearing the clothes I got drenched in Friday night. I told the Mayor there's enough left of the foundation that it can be rebuilt, but it turns out he wants to know if it's okay to pull out the remaining ruins and build over them. He really needs to consult a professional about things like that, that's what I told him.

So by this point, I'm feeling kind of dizzy. The Mayor's a nice guy - he decided to take me for a cup of coffee and a big slice of chocolate silk pie, which I hate, but I had a few bites anyway just to show my appreciation. The Mayor's talking all about progress...building a bridge to the 21st century and all that, and I didn't know why, it was just like his voice was drowning me, it made me so sleepy.

I don't quite remember it, but I do know that I passed out. I think I hit my head on the table too, because when I got up I had the mother of all headaches. I think it was Saturday night when I woke up again, and Dobbs was freaking out, trying to call my parents. Did I mention my phone got fried in the rain? So anyway, I was feeling really sick but, like all good college boys, I mumbled that I wouldn't need a ride and went back to sleep. The Mayor told me I was running a fever of 109 - apparently the rain fried me too, and hiking around the ruins of the Aglaura Public Library had just made it worse. So I went back to the guest room and slept for approximately 16 hours.

I drove home the on Sunday, but damn, I was exhausted. I'm sorry I didn't call or write sooner - looking back at the last post, I realize it looks like my last with a capital L. I'm sorry I scared you guys, and I'm sorry all this ended up with no word from the Woods Walker, no kidnapping, no secret message slipped in my bag. Is it possible the Woods Walker really was just a kook after all?

Hmm, Woods Walker is linked to MrLeeds, who is linked to Devil in the Backyard and Wesson Studios. We think that Wesson Studios is Wes' son. So, that is a distinct possibility.

SPEC: Peter has been "infected" by something out at the library that was released by the fire.

Isn't there a Mr. Leeds that owns/ runs Ash Grove Park?

Yes, Cecil Leeds. But we discussed that possibility when the movies were first discovered in this thread.

Which reminds me. I need to update the video list in there. And I found many of our original website discovery threads.
/me plans a review this week.

I'm very concerned that Peter was infected by the same thing that "infected" and is possessing J.D. I've written to him to warn him about any continuation of his symptoms and for him to also keep in touch with Sam. I'm going to write her and ask if she can keep an eye on him.

But was JD ever sick? Did he ever have the same symptoms as Peter right now? I'm thinking it's something different, if it's not just a cold.

[SPEC] Wes maybe? After all, they are BOTH investigators of strange things...

What happened to each of them when they got near the walls is what I'm concerned about. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens and if we find out any more info about what happened with JD and if anything more happens to Peter.

The wall in the basement of the library and I thought there was something in one of Phyllis' letters to Iris about JD building something (a wall?) in the basement.

He's obsessed with the basement of the Hollow Needle. Read through the journals and the letters we got from the MyUploads page.

JD first writes about his dreams. He's a different person in his dreams. And he started smoking. Now he's obsessed with opening up a portal or doing something down in the basement. Is this like Marzant wanting to "open up the basement" of the Library (destroy the Library to release something)?

Is the Hollow Needle one of the spots on the marked map? The dot on the far right center of the 3 dots is "next" to it. What if the dots were a smaller circle. Keep the center, but decrease the radius?

I have read all of those and I know about the basement I just didn't remember anyone talking about a wall with any importance. I remember that Dale found a chute into a secret room and that JD was digging and "renovating" the basement.

In Dale's dreams, Digitalis has said, "Six voices with one tongue will call / A secret hidden behind the wall." That's what prompted him to go to the Library's basement, where he found the chute to the secret room. From Dale's journal entry dated July 16, 2006:

Dale wrote:
Down in the basement, I stood before the wall I had dreamt of several times, which according to the old records I had looked at, were part of an external wall of the old library building. The building had been expanded and restored several times now, but as far as I could tell, that old underground area had been sealed off years ago. And more importantly, one of the drawings I had seen showed a door into that area right where I stood.

The wall was in a storage area of the library, and looked to be made of the original old fieldstones that probably comprised the main walls of the original structure. I searched the wall for probably an hour, looking for any signs of the old doorway, or any means of gaining access to what I knew must be beyond. But I failed. There was simply no way in through the wall, and it withstood a few minutes of my fiercest pounding with the small sledgehammer I had brought with me without showing the slightest crack.

Plus, of course, we must remember the Woods Walker's message to Peter from June 25th: "ANSWERS ARE WITHIN THE WALLS"

Shad0, thank you so much for putting all of that together. I'd forgotten about the message to Peter.
