[SPEC] Hole2 Revisited and the Spider Protocol

The reappearance of Hole2 as a clue to Glyph 17- and the reference to it as "still a mystery"- got me thinking. You may remember that I was peddling a theory that the whited out area in the enigmatic figure's face was actually an outline of the Indian Ocean as depicted in the MFI map. Though Yauch was kind enough to create a pretty convincing overlay, this idea didn't go anywhere, mainly because it didn't have much explanatory power. Why direct us to the Indian Ocean if there's nothing to see there?

Well, now Rachel is in the Indian Ocean- in Sri Lanka.

This prompted me to reexamine the MFI map. Remember the mysterious gray landmass that was inset on the map? This turned out to be a part of the southern African continent from the same map. But why superimpose part of Africa onto the map in the Indian Ocean?

The African inset is placed southeast of India, near Sri Lanka. If the African map extended north, Tanzania- where THF caused some kind of outbreak through its medical experiments, as discovered by the Global Welfare Consortium- would overlap Sri Lanka.

Theory: Hole2 and the inset were both a bit of foreshadowing. They signaled that the Tanzanian outbreak would happen again in Sri Lanka. This is what the Spider Protocol is (or is a response to). This fits with the datum that Helgus Antonius is a quarantined medical vessel, with Mittlewerk's mysterious medical treatments, and with GidgetGirl, a GWC staffer, having a connection to what is going on (and setting Rachel up with a "Healthway Alliance" badge). Obviously, Rachel/Persephone couldn't have known about the Tanzania/Sri Lanka connection when she was hacking the THF website from inside, so the foreshadowing would have to be the PMs' work.
