#126 Offside

Puzzle by Von, 32 points. Sorry no scan but not necessary. (apologies for the caps but copied as per the card)

"AHHH FOOTBALL

While I personally don't totally understand it (the offside rule, naturally), I find the idea of people running around after an inflated pig bladder quite entertaining. Since our link to Earth became more stable, these teams have developed quite a following in Perplex City - kindly fill in the gaps below of the teams, where they play and what their known as....

NAME - STADIUM (2005) - NICKNAME

BOLTON WANDERERS - REEBOK STADIUM - ????

MANCHESTER UNITED - ???? - RED DEVILS

EVERTON - GOODISON PARK - ????

CHARLTON ATHLETIC - ???? - ADDICKS

BLACKBURN ROVERS - ???? - ROVERS

???? - ST JAMES' PARK - MAGPIES

ARSENAL - ???? - GUNNERS

???? - VILLA PARK - VILLAINS

???? - RIVERSIDE STADIUM - BORO

NOW BY FILLING IN THE GAPS CAN YOU TELL WHERE MY ALLEGIANCES LIE?"

That's what I had hendo77, although I would make the following comment regarding the Arsenal one:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Their (old) stadium was actually officially named "The Arsenal Stadium" but not a lot of people know that, including Von, but then as a Lillywhite I wouldn't expect him to know much about the auld enemy!

For the 7th one, I have:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Emirates Stadium instead of Highbury. The Wiki was a great help!

After all that work, I didn't notice the final question until I went to enter it, and now I don't know what they want! 'Allegiances'? I tried 'England' and 'United Kingdom'... Couldn't think of anything else!
Sad

I think the 2005 stadium is to exclude Emirates. Topgun2 is giving you a big clue about what they're looking for.

Well, I was pretty proud of myself for finding all the answers, although it appears I have #7 wrong now. Would I know better if I was male, into sports and in the UK? As it is, neither applies, so I guess I'm SOL. Sad

Arsenal have famously just moved to a swanky new stadium, so I guess the answer to that is 'yes' (not that I know what SOL means). I would imagine Wikipedia would give the one that was in use up to last year - one of the most famous locations in English soccer, though no place I was ever comfortable: my Dad's a Gooner and he took me there a few times as a child, but stopped after I got hit by some kid in a red rosette.

I grew up an Ipswich fan, but Beloved Other Half supports Tottenham - Arsenal's sworn enemy and north London rival.

As for turning what you found out into an answer -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
try forgetting the sports aspect and looking at what you have as a word puzzle that requires a simple answer that can be deduced from the words you just filled in.

Edit - sorry, didn't notice you'd already hit the Wiki.

TROTTERS
OLD TRAFFORD
TOFFEE
THE VALEY
EWOOD PARK
NEWCASTLE UNITED
HIGHBURY
ASTON VILLA
MIDDLESBOROUGH

i.e. Tottenham is the answer. So yeah, I suppose his sig would help. Google is your friend.
