Very interesting that someone posted this
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1) [mount] RUSH[more]
2) LOOK ON THE WATER FOR INSPERATION [reflecting pool]
3) IN DARK TIMES [inscription on steps]
4) DRINKING SONG [refers to slavery]
5) MIST HALF [poem written behalf of president]
6) [he read at night] in the burning light
7) Colour [term used during time of slavery]
What makes it interesting is that they say that it is being given out in the order of a popular d.c. tour.
Another person posted an interesting article and thus I think the location makes more sense than other guesses we might have had in the past.

read this and I think we know how to answer the answer we knew all along

I found the chain, and that's all I can find. I have been all over that darn dungeon. Where are we suppose to go on that globe? And is the lever suppose to be in a certain position? Either way didn't seem to make any difference in the maze.

Globe wont work till you click it once with the chain take the chain and find the room with the book.

Huh? I have the chain. I return to the globe and nothing. I have no clue where it wants me to go. And I can pull out the chain but clicking on it or the globe doesn't do anything except put the chain back into my backpack.
Edit to add: Oh, had to remember the Lat & Long numbers from the darn book in the library. Got the second insurance policy....getting tempted to use it if I can't get to this room you wrote about.

the order of things... very buggy puzzle. you need to do the following in exactly this order:
1) pull the lever.
2) pick up the chain.
3) get the book.
if you pick up the chain first the lever won't work and thus you'll never get the book.
if you pull the lever, get the book and then pick up the chain, the chain will either disappear completely in your pack or if you restart (without quitting completely) you will never be able to use the chain at the oil field.
cheers

Ok for those of you looking for the book.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Head for the top left of the maze. You'll need to use a running jump to make it...

BTW the text messaging game during the tv show may be generating clues for us - a friend did it last night (when was the statue of liberty shipped here: 1885) and got back a clue: the National Building Museum in Washington DC. Sounds like that's for us, doesn't it? And if so, what other clues have we missed from those?

other clues My understanding is that before last night the clue received back from the text messaging was a hint as to how to play the on-line challenge for that particular week. The answer last night seems to be a departure from that by giving an actual location. I don't know what this means. It also seems that the clue received by entering online was "Safety Last" which may be used for next weeks challenge in the game.
I am getting all of this from various threads on the NBC com forum on Treasure Hunters. There is a thread there: http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?showtopic=627458
called What is Known which lists all the facts used in the shows so far. This shows the previous text clues as:
1) shadows fall on time
2) sense shall guide you
3) it is the garden you seek
4) use no code before its time
5) steam
6) there are a lot of songs to play
----
So now we have "where is the early symbol laid out..." My question is do we know that this is definitely an early symbol of the American revolution?
Second question: does everyone think that all of the words in the clues need to be satisfied by the answer? If so the clue "match the tune with an early drinking song" matches the Star Spangled Banner but it seems awfully limiting. (also, the official song of Washington DC is the Star-Spangled Banner so it may simply be pointing DC?)
Then again, most of the puzzles on the show so far have been stunningly simple.

and I think that confirms the final answer that I have which was generated by the original guess from our group.

Symbol and city heh - the National Building Museum has an ongoing exhibit called Washington: Symbol and City.

The space bar helps you jump with a running start (check the instructions on the phone for which keys to use). I did it about ten times before my guy caught on with his fingertips.
The globe is good for two things - one is found by using the location of Genworth (from that book back in the main library where all the puzzle pieces are...)(DO THIS FIRST), and the other from the book you're trying to get from the crypt. It is also very hard to do with just a touchpad on your laptop. I finally had to go plug in a mouse to get the fine control I needed on the globe.
The chain will be used when you get to the place identified in the crypt book.
