I got my reply today. I asked before we found out that Roger was his father.

Who is Roger?

Roger Emerson was my "father." He was a no good hypocrite, that disowned me after everything I did to keep him out of the poor house. He spit on every sacrifice I made and then died. Then he died and left me out in the cold for good.

100% with Emerson:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I knew it. They were all liars, every single one of them. You can't trust them, you can't trust anyone. I should know. I trusted my father to look after me, and he got me thrown to the wolves, then he grew a spine and joined the land of the productive. Don't trust any of them. Throw them to the wolves, let that killer strike again, cut them down. I wanted to help, but they just wanted to lie to you.

I have got a new connection with Mr Emerson and I am really having difficulty.

It is several columns of a Vigenere cipher, (not in alphabetical order!)

I have tried

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
decoding each line as a Vigenere, taking the u to be in column A, the i in column B etc and all variations of the resultng code.
I thought it might be a plain old wordsearch but none of the words I've found are accepted and, to be honest, didn't make much sense as answers anyway.

Could somebody give me a hint on this please?

THank you

Archimedea

I just got this one as well.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Count how many letters are in each column. That should tell you what you need to do.

I got a response today:

Quote:
were you really a mob boss?

So you all figured it out. Yeah, yeah I was. I wasn't part of Cosa Nostra, just part of a little side gang I started up myself, to make sure that my family could eat. I was helping them, see? Then they decide they don't need no help, and they pull themselves up by their bootstraps. They were ashamed! Can you believe that, do-nothings ashamed of the guy who worked hard to make their lives worth living! Well, it was too late by then. How could I go back to that?

Reply from Mr. E:

Quote:
Do you think the fortune of E.S. Wylie is actually mob money?

Nah. Cosa Nostra wasn't even around when Wylie was traveling over the world. Most likely he stole it from poor schmucks in Africa and Asia who didn't know to look out for "explorers." He wasn't that much different than I was in that regard.

My reply from Emerson

Quote:

Troy, you've been aroud this area of town for quite a while. What do you know about the whole treasure hunting fad that surrounds the Wylie will?

It comes and goes. People come in, poke around the house (when it is open to the public, which was almost never) and the church, and a few other places. Every once in a while there was a huge influx of people, but no one ever found anything. Everyone thought that the will was the key to finding it, but no one could ever figure out what the key meant.
