I agree that we probably need to track this fellow down. I reckon he's been given a question to pass on to whoever contacts him, and the answer to that will be the solve.

On a whim though, taking off from the six degrees of separation idea, I decided to try Karinthy, Milgram, and Stanley Milgram as possible solves. Not surprisingly, they didn't work. But hey, worth a try.

I wonder how 'elusive' Satoshi will be; has he been instructed to be hard to find....or does he even know that his photo is being used as a puzzle?

Well I think he will have to know because there are a bunch of legal issues with using someones picture without their prior knowledge.

Actually, I don't think it's a legal issue at all. If someone takes a picture of you in a public place, they can do what they like with it.

At least thats what I remember hearing Confused

I think he knows what's going on. It's one thing torturing us lot with random stuff, but it would be a bit much to use a photo of someone, and risk them being badgered by strangers from the other side of the globe, without them knowing.

Babel fish confirms that 私を見つけなさい is japanese for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Find Me

However, I would never 100% trust the translations of Babel Fish. Very Happy

I don't normally trust Babel Fish. It gives really funny and unrealistic translations most of the time.
But, in this particular case, I can confirm that the translation is absolutelely "grammatically" correct.
One thing is that the expresson "私を見つけなさい" has an air of demand rather than instruction, so I wouldn't use this expression to say "Find me".
Well, it is just a personal preference I suppose.

I'm trying the personals: "slightly evil genius seeks rustic Japanese hottie who takes photos of self on cell phone - must have black hair, brown eyes, no facial hair. Your own rural wallow in pre-modern Japanese hamlet a plus."

Okay, on a whim, cos I'm a whimsical kind of vegetable, and it's 4:35 in the morning, I decided to do a Google Image search on "Kevin Bacon" (as in Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon) and Satoshi. Got a few pictures, and one guy looks a bit like him (Satoshi Nikaido) but then there's another picture of the same bloke (unless it's a bloke with the same name) and he's got a tache and he doesn't look anything like him. Don't know what the text says as it is in Japanese.

Probably a dead end.

Maybe it's time for bed...

Edit: Ah - he's an actor who was in the Last Samurai...

Edit 2 Also found this http://www.fujilab.dnj.ynu.ac.jp/~nakamura/
Could be him when he's younger? His little brother? Has he taken a photo in the same way? Has he got that little curled up bit on his lip? Are his eyebrows in the right place?

When I go to the website I get lots of questionmarks where the text should be - is this because I don't have a Japanese font installed or is it part of some bigger puzzle?

Click down the links and you get stuff about Japanese walking robots, Quantum parallel computers, and a picture of an acoustic guitar. Too weird.

Right that's it, definitely time for bed.

Email the Americans and tell them this guy wants to buy an airline ticket, tell them he's been acting suspiciously, say the writing is Arabic (like they'd know) - they'll soon know who is Smile We could learn from the news where the cruise missile fell in Japan, the rest is cake . . .

http://www.articulograph.de/userlist-2006-table.xls

Then I went to another google hit and saw this under M. Kaneko: Compositional sematics of an ambiguity.
"Numata, Yoshiko. 2000. Toritate (focus particles), In Satoshi Kinsui, Mayumi Kudo and Yoshiko Numata (eds.) ......"

Both of those searches, i just typed in Tubingen Uni Japan Satoshi

Maybe nonessestial.

It's a crazy idea, but I like it! And dammit, it might just work Laughing

Possibly the man knows about this and has been told to lie low for a while
