What next gen console are you getting?

Now, i don't want any arguments or fights, but i'm just plain curious. What next gen console are you planning on having in your household in the next few years?

Whether I want a PS3 or not is a moot point - simply out of my price range. I'll get a Wii on release day if at all possible, and then a 360 when Halo 3 comes out.

Eventually, all of them. But none of them within the next couple of years. PS3 costs too much despite likely having the best games, Xbox 360 will probably be in the same slump that the early Xbox was in for some time to come, and the Wii is such a big gimmick (and is already hamstrung by the marketshare failures of the N64 and GC) that it will be a miracle if anyone besides Nintendo makes a game worth playing for it.

Well, in the "gimmick" department that might qualify as "gimmick that makes me seriously consider buying a Nintendo product for the first time since the PS1 came out" is the fact that they will be re-releasing all their old games for NES, SNES, and N64 along with Genesis games. Yes, I realize you can get an emulator, but I'd like to not have to worry about downloading a virus or dealing with a corrupt copy just to play Castlevania.

However, I would argue that XBox360 stumbled out the door with lack of good launch titles, heat issues (well, heat issues for people who don't deal with PCs much of the time), and horrific wait times for delivery of systems (people were waiting, what, 3 or 4 months on a pre-order?). They had the advantage of a year's headstart, but with the exception of XBox Live, they choked it hard (as of this point, there are 51 reviews by CGW, only 15 of which garnered an 8 or above, and the average is a meagre 7.167).

It would then seem the PS3 has a good chance as they can capitalize on the success of the PS1 and PS2. However, at $500 - $600, I think they priced themselves out of a good chunk of the non-hardcore market (read: kid on Christmas), at least here in the US. Also, while there are cool games in the pipeline for the PS3, there only seem to be six to eight unique launch titles (there are apparently six other launch titles that are not unique to the PS3). Given that the release date was delayed six months to begin with, that's somewhat of a paltry feast. Still, the games could be stellar, and thus have quality over quantity.

This does put the Wii in a good position with an attractive price point (supposedly no greater than $250) and potentially up to 20 launch titles (10 unique ... I think). The question is if they can capitalize on these advantages or lose out again. To be honest, I'm sort of banking on the latter; Nintendo has not done squat in recent years unless they've owned the market nearly in its totality (handheld market). As for games made by someone other than Nintendo worth playing, two launch titles apparently are by Square Enix, who I think we can say has a decent track record in making games. Still, two games a great library does not make.

------

Okay for the record, I do not work nor own stock in Nintendo. The only Nintendo product I ever owned was the GameBoy ... the original black and white one. I probably will not purchase any of the systems in the next year (voted Dunno?) as I'll wait for the winner to shake out before shelling out for the "next" thing.

Well, i'm a certified Nintendo Fanboy, so i'll be getting a Wii.
PS3 is waaaaay outside my price range (way to go Sony).
I'm not planning on getting XBox 360, but if i get good internet by the time Halo 3 comes out, i might snag one. (Yay, Dialup! Sad )

XBox 360 and Wii on teir release and then wait until the Playstation price falls by £150 and pick it up then.

Which it will do as they're going to lose out hugely.

Not quite a fact, they won't be re-releasing 'all their old games,' just some of them, mainly the classics. If thats all you want, good, but if you want to finally beat Humans for the Sega Genesis... you better find a freind who still has the console.
