Museum of History and Technology changed it's name to the National Museum of American History.

Never finished the transition.

Museum of History and Technology is still chiseled above the entrance.

If you line up the fourth symbol up a little then line up the rest it should work.

Remember to use the correct door choice for the second symbol.

Keep playing with it.

I was in other forums and some complained that the alignment took 3hours alone.

Good Luck!!

I've tried everythign- clearing cookies, cache, history, even re-booted (just cause i tried everything else)- and NOTHING seems to work with that damn DC puzzle! Now, for some reason, there's three (i think) pieces that don't automatically click into a spot... is it possible you have to align them just perfectly? I have tried to line them up a straight and flush as possible, and I'm still not getting anywhere.

I feel your pain. Or felt at least. I decided to go check on my other computer to see if I had any different luck. Amazingly I did. When I opened up the puzzle board, none of the pieces were in place (every time I opened up the puzzle board on my normal computer, the pieces were all on the board). I put the pieces back in and voila! It went to the fireplace opening and from there I was able to enter the symbols (btw - thanks to everyone for giving hints in here as I had no sound on this computer and I had no idea what I was doing).

Unfortunately, I don't know what the difference is between my downstairs and upstairs computers in terms of why one worked and one didnt. It might be the flash version, although I would have thought that the upstairs would have had a newer version than this one. I have no idea if it's possible for you to get onto another computer, but that's the solution that ended up working for me. I hope you are able to figure out something soon.

One other thought - I know sometimes flash hides stuff in really weird places to keep track of what you've done and whatnot. You might also want to try clearing that out. It's the only thing I can think of why all my puzzle pieces would be already placed even though I was using two different browsers on the same computer.

Rowan you are brilliant i went to this website http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager02.html if this link doesn't work than go to google and type in how to clear flash player. Once there they have the sites that are taking up space on your computer. Click the Nbc website and click delete website and after that restart the treasure hunters game and the pieces are reset! After that plug them in and it works! Yay thanks again rowan!

Why suddenly give a key word that is an anagram? That seems odd. Yet I agree that seems to be what you have to do...

Now I just connected another couple things - remember my question about why the puzzle map shows a reflecting pool on the wrong side of the Mall? Well the puzzle pool is on the same side of the Mall as the NMAH. And remember the last room (thru the fireplace)? It had a "skylight" that seemed to be under water and a federal building visible through the water ... Was that a hint to choose a museum overlooking the water area on the puzzle? (i.e., NMAH?)

I thought (while I was in there) that the final room looked like the atrium area at the museum, although it does not have a skylight (a renovation starts soon to add one), and that's why I came back to the same museum. The reflecting pool thing still bugs me, though.

edit: And the building visible through the water? The Lincoln Memorial. Which is nowhere near the NMAH, and is off to the left of the puzzle map we have, where it does overlook the real reflecting pool. I'm so confused. (There are no reefs in the reflecting pool. Laughing ) Actually, putting aside the watery stuff, where would you be standing to get that angle on the Lincoln Memorial? You'd be in the vicinity of the Vietnam War Memorial, or somewhere down the side of the reflecting pool.

http://smithsonianimages.si.edu/siphoto/siphoto.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=detail&negNum=90-12559&action=detail

edit again: AND and and... remember when I said the puzzle piece to the left of the Washington Monument was the wrong shape to be the WWII memorial, but too close to be the Lincoln Memorial? I think that really was meant to be the Lincoln Memorial now. Totally wrong place, of course. But if you slid the two sides of the mall into each other (centered on the Washington Monument) ... well it still wouldn't look like that (the reflecting pool is too far away from the Lincoln Memorial), but you'd be close.

Meaning? I have no idea.

I agree that the puzzle is odd.

Aliendial - I am confused as well. The clue "where is the early symbol laid out for free" doesn't parse somehow. I don't know why they would use the word "free" to refer to entrance admissions, it just seems tacky in the context of the puzzle. The phrase for this week generates a number of anagrams that could be useful, but if we only interpret them in the context of what we already have, no new possibility develops.

The number of possible guesses from that clue formed by the circle words makes it seem that the entire sentence of each clue is important. Going with the theme of the Star Spangled Banner, I anagrammed for FKEY and FSKEY.

The most useful one is "F KEY SITE HERE" but I always think of him as F. S. Key.

Odd that this puzzle leads to so many possible answers but we haven't had more clues that narrow out the field. I like the idea of using the images from the last puzzle as they could be relevant. But I don't know, this puzzle is either very very simple or complex in a way that requires random thinking to solve.

Hopefully after tonight they will post the answer and walk through of the puzzle.

Help

I am trying to finish this week's challenge but I am stuck. Every time I try to put emergency support in the department field, it says that I am not in need of emergency support. I have already found the boot and the wallet and the diving equipment. Do I need to do something else before it will let me use the emergency support and continue on?

Can't retrieve backpack

After dozens of tries, finally got message about retrieving backpack (that gull kicked into water). Diver gets it into pouch, but nothing happens after that. Diver's hanging around in the water or kicks back to deck, HELP! Have emptied cache, maybe that I'm on an iBook, but seems to have been OK thru most of this.
Started over, but now can't get back to emer spt message; nothing opens when I click on card on wallet, except closing & going back to pouch.
