So this is when we start to see people do the animalistic instincts thing regarding the money.

I don't mind helping, but when it becomes a star wars bounty houner type galaxy then im out im afraid, I'll see how it goes.

I don't mind teaming up with others, I think I have a slight issue about selling myself to whoever at the last minute.

I'm also in the uk btw. (Just so you know)

Actually, I see this as quite the opposite. The problem I am trying to solve is a way that people all over the world can participate in finding the cube- even if they don't have the time or money to get to the location where they suspect the cube might be found.

I haven't been able to find a model anywhere for this sort of cooperative information sharing among people who haven't met or aren't business partners. So I am thinking of how to create a model that will work in the case where a large amount of money is potentially at stake.

As much as I support open sharing of information, I don't think it is reasonable to expect people to post their *final* solution to finding the cube before they have had a chance to check it out themselves. ( I could be wrong about that. )

My impression is that some people will be more inclined to stay with the game and keep searching for the cube if they know there is a way to track down their solution.

As for the money part, no one has to charge anything to help someone out. Mostly I was thinking that if someone incurred expenses they couldn't afford while tracking down the cube for someone else, they would be reimbursed.

As I said, my above post is just a very rough thought of how this might work.

---
Edit to add: We don't have to create anything like this for PPC. I am sure people will find their own solutions. I am enjoying this because this is the sort of puzzle I like to solve! I can think of other situations where this model might be useful now that I have the basic idea in mind. Smile

Yeah... Likewise... If any Americans figure out where it is... offer me 49% and I'll go get it for you.

heh - The problem with those 50 -50 scenarios is that it doesn't cost that much to fly to London and look around for the damn thing yourself. Which is why I was thinking that the money would be addressed as an individual case thing.

Now I will shut up about this idea - I think it will be very useful with a problem I am trying to solve for another project I am working on. Very Happy

By the way, I am in New York and am willing to go any place nearby to look for the cube in the unlikely event it turns up here. I work for free, but I will have to buy my friends beer. Very Happy

Will remember that.

I don't live in England (nor in the USA for that matter) so I just might need someone. I don't think too much about the reward but am very serious about this meta puzzle. In fact I'm going quite deep into the analysis of it already. And if I need someone to retrieve the artifact I will probably ask somebody on this forum. But not somebody random...

While some of you (readers) may not be completely open as to expressing all your theories/ideas about these meta puzzles (and may be sitting on your ideas) I believe you should realize something. I believe the best way to raise your chances of being "recruited" by one of the people not living in England (but who are seriously trying to crunch these numbers and are very capable of succeeding) would be to make a contribution to the puzzle solving process itself. In fact this counts for other puzzlers too: the cube could very well be in your state or country. Whether or not you think you will be able to crack this puzzle by yourself it might be wise to layout all your ideas here or help in other ways so that your contribution will be noticed by those that might just be able to crack the code but need someone to retrieve it Wink.

I'm just saying that the tactic to keep sectrets may not be the smartest move in this case (as opposed to card solving where keeping secrets might be useful to get the first solve).

Just some suggestions....

arnezami

Okay, back on topic then...

Has anyone photocopied the cards, enlarged them, cut them out and tried to put them together? Does this help? Do we have a full list of cards with blobs - Arnezami put together a good list on page 4 but have we added any? There doesn't seem to be any mention of this topic on the wiki, am I missing it or do we need a summary?

Also, I am worried this thread hasn't had then attention it deserves, hopefully because people are stumped and not because their keeping things to themselves. As has been mentioned, this would be a very bad thing!

So, come people, lets make some progress with this. Its possibly the greatest puzzle of this entire Perplex City adventure!

agree

I absolutely agree that sharing the information is the way to go.

I hope nothing I wrote gave an impression otherwise because open and free collaboration of people in a diverse community is my basic philosophy. I think people are willing to work on this META puzzle the same way they have on others but it is a lot of new information and a bit overwhelming. Plus it seems really really hard.

Sadly, I can't add to this puzzle solving yet. I am still obtaining the cards, haven't solved any of them and I haven't gotten a good enough idea of what the whole picture looks like. Is it ok with Mind Candy or whoever for those of us who don't have the cards yet to print images of the map and work with them in the way you described? Photcopying, cutting and pasting? I've not tried to print an image of a card before.

I think a wiki summary and possibly some sort of map showing the cards more distinctly (I have seen and love the map we have but I find it hard to see the blobs and series of numbers on it.) and possibly highlighting the cards with all the unusual symbols on it would really help. I am not sure where the blobs with the map of England appear.

It is an interesting question: how much do you owe the collective mind in solving the meta puzzle and finding the Cube? Even if a regular reader of these forums comes up with the right solution which is different to the track pursued on Unfiction, how much of the inspiration came from reading the wrong approach? The only way that one could genuinely claim the solution was completely one's own would be not to read Unfiction or the PXC forums (fora?) anymore.

So I'd say it's a matter of balance and individual conscience. If Unfiction, or an individual therein, has made a significant contribution to one's discovery of the Cube, then recognise that significant contribution. Even if the majority of the work is done on one's own, I would still suggest considering that part of the inspiration came from here, and recognise it accordingly.

I don't think an arrangement needs to be semi-formalised, though if it did, then something akin to rose's suggestion would be the way to go. Ultimately, £100, 000 or $200, 000 is not that large an amount of money. Yes, it's three to five years' wages. But it's not enough to lose all ethical awareness and sense of fairness. £1, 000, 000 on the other hand...

I'll be honest, if (a VERY big if) I did find the cube I know that some of the money (don't know how much) would be donated to the uf forums, and I'd try hosting a party for all uf members.

Had a link up to one of the scans, but thought it would be more sensible to wiki it all instead....

Maybe it is a risk man... but maybe it's also part of the britain map.... It could be both. It looks too much like the south coast for it not to be...
Otherwise why would the image be cut up & on 2 separate cards?
