I received this email this morning from Japan:
Quote:

Thank you for your very interesting mail. I introduce your mail on my
blog. I really hope you allow me to do it.

I can tell, it won't be Japan. The biggest hint will be the house behiind
him and we hardly have such house which has randam lattice beam on outside wall. The house looks not so new, we have hardly have such type of color house too. And also we can see white house which has chimny on the roof. I can tell it is very hard to find the house has chimny in Japan. For me, it looks some local village of Europe. Satoshi will be in North Europe.

Thanks!!

Also on digg.com if everyone wants to 'digg it' and push it up the rankings a bit...

While googling "6 degrees of seperation" I came to this website http://www.umass.edu/newsoffice/newsreleases/articles/20618.php
So i emailed the University with this. Now I'm just waiting to hear back. Maybe this algorithm of their's can help us? Worth a try!

Hi.

My name is Zach Lubarsky. I am writing to you because I saw your article about "six degrees of seperation theory." There is a game called Perplex City (www.perplexcity.com) and it involves some things called "puzzle cards." One of the cards uses this principle to find a guy that we have a picture to and nothing else. The card is being discussed here(http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16148&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=135) I was wondering if this algortihm that you made can be implemented by us? Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Zach Lubarsky

didnt' see anything about this either, but apparently the US government is developing the tech. to take ALL pics on the WWW, and blend them together to make a 3-D world of basicaly anywhere their has been more than 1 picture of. If there is any other pic of this mountain range or house, then when (if ever) it becomes in public use, this shouldn't be any sweat at all. Wink (now someone just needs to find it..........)

Has anyone tried NASA or ISS websites. Is he a Disney Tokyo Castmember?
Also, are we safe to assume the name given by Von is his first name?

I am in Northern France next week so shall be keeping an out eye for the landscape, buildings (I know they have similar tudor style buildings there), water mills, japanese tourists (ha!), on my voyage.

Keep searching and bon chance.

Really LONG shot here, but is it possible to try to determine what kind of tree that is? That might narrow down the region.

Huh. Good point StarryNight... it's pretty impossible to determine though, seeing as there are no distinguishable leaves, and plus, that tree could be a sapling, so for all we know, it could be a young oak!

So that's that one killed. Good idea though.

Anyone thought of using mms/text messages? I know I get those daft chain messages from friends. Perhaps we could look at composing something like that?

Sorry if this has been suggested already...

From one of my forum posts

Quote:

Good luck with that.

1. He took the picture himself.
2. Based upon the geography and architectecture I would guess the picture was taken in the Alsace region of France around Strasburg.
3. The fact he took the picture himself, I would guess he was on vacation there, but that is pure assumption.
4. I am too bored to think anymore about it.

Most likely because hes holding his arm out in fromt of him, and its probobly the right distance for that sort of pic to be taken.

I was wondering about that... The image on the card is slightly cropped compared to the hi-res image from MC.

I'll spoiler this in case any die-hard thinks using anything but the image on the card is not in the spirit of the game :p

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The full image shows what I think is Mr X's bag. First of all I thought it was someone standing just behind him (close enough that it was probably someone he knew) as there's no sign of him wearing anything above his coat (straps etc.)

However if it was someone he knew it'd be odd that he'd be taking a self-portrait (knowing how tricky it is to get a well framed shot). Why not ask his pal?

Ah right, the image most definitely clears things up.

On the card it looks like his shoulder but in the high res you can see it's his arm, so he's taking the picture. It also ties in with the subjective nature of the card "Find Me" so he's taking a pic of himself and talking to us!

That reminds me actually, can anyone look to see if there is meta data attached to the image like what camera it was taken with etc. and maybe a date?

Wink

I assume that stuff is possible. I know that when I transfer an image to my computer from my camera it contains all sorts of kloos.
