Just goes to show what happens when you don't pay attention. Stupid me I didn't even fill in the text otherwise Von's hint would have been great

clues Von's hint is actually REALLY helpful by what it leaves out (i.e. I can't see the connection with the t's - sorry aliendial - love ya!!), secondly (sorry Ramsfan - 'specially after all your help) but the image is very much connected to the text... rather than the specific tale.
Sammykat if it were a pipe... then it would be a crackpipe... judging by the main character's predilections but it's not a pipe... what other pleasure might he indulge in?

Connect the t's from words that didn't have i's. I spec it's something to play with.
I got that from someone else, and we agreed that, even knowing what it's supposed to be, it's not clear.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
i realised after locking myself out what it was most likely to be.
a quick look on wikipedia for sherlock holmes has confirmed it.
locked out till tomorrow morning, though
annyoingly, it was the first thing my girlfriend said, when i showed her my 'drawing' shoulda asked her sooner!

Well DUH!
That was my first guess, but tried other answers first.
From now on, I am certainly going by gut instinct

Well I have looked through this topic and I have heard nothing about this so I though I would post it. If you hold the card up to the light and look in the bottom left hand corner you can see a strange image, with 2 numbers next to it. I really don't know what to make of the image but I thought it might help.
Here is the image

That is rather odd!
I took a look at my card, and I do not have the same mmarking.
Could possibly be just a printing error?

You have to angle the card in the light to see it

Nothing on mine either. It might be a smudge or water mark (as opposed to a watermark...) just on yours.
Edit: I appear to be (gasp!) wrong on this, as a number of other marks have shown up, and Adrian Hon was even corresponding with Sente before 3P knocked out the conncections.
