I spent hours trying to see something on this card. Then I come on here to see what I'm doing wrong, and I look at the scan of the card, which jumps out at me.

Without that, I'd probably have been here this time next month.

The idiom in America is phrased:

But I did not try to submit it that way.
Frankly, the British version makes more sense to me. I always thought it was an odd saying.

I don't know about anyone else, but I say it the way you mention too. I think it's just Perplexians who say it that odd way. Maybe.
