aw... someone removed the "butt in the breeze" comment... I was going to write this:

Cela est toujours été vrai!

Ok, 'nuff French. I swear I'm done.

I'm just gonna sit on my chaise lounge and watch 'Papillon', while sipping a nice Bordeaux. Wink

I agree with the comments about the miss type in coding with Ctrl + V [Paste]. I mentioned this a while back in another thread when the Academy site first went live. They say that the most likely answer is usually the correct one, and in this case I think it's true.

The subject of this thread says 'letter 'v' in weird places'. But when you look closer, it's not that weird. It always seems to be either at the beginning or end of a line/paragraph, exactly where an html tag would be pasted. The code shows missing tags too in these positions with the questioned 'v' which is another very compelling peice of evidence for this explanation.

I would love to be proved wrong however. But you've got a lot of convicing to do!

As somebody pointed out 'vielle' does not mean 'old' - its a musical instrument called a 'hurdy gurdy'.

see dictionary at
http://europa.eu.int/eurodicautom/Controller

I seem to remember a 'hurdy gurdy' turned up in some other video game a few years bacj - can't remember which one though - possibly a T Pratchett thing.

THis brings me nicely to the salk logs. The leader is V! Assuming they took the cube to earth on purpose, they must have contacts on this side (change by them), or they still had access to the academy system at the time, change made then. Or prehaps a ghostly premenition. Or I might be talking crap.

But V is BAD!

I'd like to think all these anomalous 'V's were, indeed, 'easter eggs' planted as an early indication that the nefarious 'V' was behind everything. But it could be that, OOG, the ARGing community first judged 'V' to be significant when its presence was accidental, and MC decided that, hey, it would be nice to incorporate the symbol somewhere.

Who knows what the 'V' stands for? As has been referenced elsewhere, it's the Latin numeral 5, and that could be important - if the Secret Society *are* equivalent to the Illuminati, then it's worth noting that the Illuminatus Trilogy references an obsession that the Illuminati have with the number 5! But, in the Perplex City universe context, of course, 6 would seem like a more apposite number. And am I the only person who starts thinking of Thomas Pynchon and Alan Moore whenever he sees that particular letter??

After looking at the source this one appears to be sloppy coding. Looks like they were pasting (control-v) in all the <strong> tags and must've slipped off of control on that line and didn't realize.

Or maybe thats what they want us to think. Very Happy

Still reckon this is the best explanation

Wide, wide, spec.

Erm. 074: WordSpy... look at number 5, then b). Just before the word 'partner' there's a little mark. I know it's nothing, but just thought I'd bring this to your attention. Can anyone else confirm this?
