[EVENT] [IMPORTANT] Airline Carry-On Restrictions

http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2006/press_release_08102006.shtm

http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/08/10/terror.passengers.ap/index.html

Due to the terrorist plot they just discovered in the UK, all flights are now under the following restrictions

TSA article wrote:
Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane.

This means that if you were planning on going to San Francisco and planning to pack light, your toiletry kit will probably have to be tossed or checked through. To those players coming from the UK, you probably won't be seeing this as you are en route, but if you are not, delays for most flights from the UK are pushing 1.5 - 2 hours.

There also was something I heard on NPR about no cell phones on the plane, but I cannot verify that with TSA or CNN. EDIT: The no cell phones thing is only for people leaving the UK (of course, for them that includes no laptops, iPods, or remote controls as well).

CNN article wrote:
At Chicago airports, the terror alert level was raised to orange, requiring all bags to be screened. Chicago aviation commissioner Nuria Fernandez said the only exceptions to the ban on liquids would be breast milk and fruit juices for small and nursing children. She urged passengers to arrive early for flights and to consider not bringing carryon luggage.

and

Quote:
Passengers dumped liquids into large trash cans that were being emptied every couple minutes. People threw away water bottles, juice boxes, makeup and even a bottle of tequila.

DAMN YOU TERRORISTS!!!!

Also, if you are like me and are flying out tonight from the East Coast, do note that there is possibilities of even MORE delays due to thunderstorms up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Rah.

When all is said and done, I suspect 3P will be shown to be behind all of this. The timing is too coincidental.

Just a note to report that MC people are all safe and sound in SF (having traveled early) and are preparing for Saturday Smile

...or at least I'm assuming they're safe and sound. Not kidnapped or lost in Alcatraz or anything.

Wouldn't want to be the one trying to explain to customs why we are wearing funny looking badges that appear to be coded. I fear their response would be a full cavity search. Shocked

[RL UPDATE] Important Information for People Flying to SF

f'ing terrorists.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/10/us.security/index.html

Quote:
"Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane," a DHS statement said.

Quote:
The British Airports Authority said no hand luggage would be allowed onto planes leaving British airports until further notice.

Quote:
The massive lines that resulted at security checkpoints made chaos of air travel worldwide as flights were delayed or canceled.

Quote:
Increased security means airline passengers around the country should show up at least two hours early for all flights, an official with the Transportation Security Administration told CNN.

(Hey mods, wasn't sure if this should go here, but was hoping people traveling would see it)

If the cube is in SF (or anywhere besides Britain for that matter), think about trying to get THAT past security.....

"Sir, please remove all metallic objects from your person." (takes out cube) "Umm, what is that sir?" "Oh, that's the Receda Cube." "What's a Receda Cube?" "It's a cube of immense power. Some even think it might be a weapon." "IT'S A WEAPON, GET HIM!" (struggling) "Wait, wait, just because it's possible it took out half a city, doesn't necessarily mean it did."

No perfumes, deodorant, liquid makeup, etc. Definitely best to put *all* questionable items in *checked* baggage! (still wondering why they're safer in the cargo hold Shocked )

Well the liquids that they were taking on the plane were the ingrediants to make the explosives, they can't set it up if they can't get to the ingrediants.

True. On the other hand, if it's just, y'know, a bomb of some kind, it's not going to make much of a difference unless it's not on a timer with conveniently cuttable red and black wires. Laughing

Oh yeah, apparently metal bottle openers that fit in your wallet are a no-no, especially when you walk through the scanner twice and set it off because you forgot it in there. Needless to say I was told to "step to the side" for a more thorough investigation... Sad
