Dragonscales: I was making the same mistake as you and had tried the same answer.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When you go into the first room you have to count the one tile you go onto twice because you are crossing it twice - going in and out.

If you use that to amend your answer you should be correct.

Can't believe this... Put loads of effort into solving this card, I KNOW the solve, but I've just come in from work and have left the card buy the window in the office after showing it to the guys. Got good reactions (look it never stops working!) but gutted I'll miss a top 10 solve!!!

Sorry about the whining.... Evil or Very Mad

So I was mistaken, as I suspected.

Well, I just seem to be a fountain of red herrings today. Sad

I think I've got it... I don't know though... I'll find out in 2 minutes' time.

Yes. Got it.

Thanks for your helps, guys. I was so close before! Grr. But if they'd have told us you could use that method, and for some reason...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Count that extra step ¬_¬

Then we'd have got it quicker.

I'll try and help although i'm not too good at explaining things! I think you're trying to get around the "walls up walls down" thing by going in and out and in again in the 2nd room? To get the answer you only need to enter each room the one time -and also in the top left room you cross the tile nipping in and again nipping out!

I can see where you're going wrong because your way is the fastest route, and there isn't anything on the card about only entering each room only once...

Driving me reasonably insane. Here is my attempt in an Excel file. Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong? I can't see any shorter route.
207.xls
Description   Map for card 207 maze with my (incorrect) solution on it
 Filesize   21.5KB
    228 Time(s)

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Each room will only work once to make the sun appear or disappear, otherwise a shorter route would be to just exit and re-enter the second room you come to to get a shorter time.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The other problem is that you are still outside the room at the end of step 32, and haven't made the sun disappear yet.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I counted the number of squares needed to get out of the fourth room with the sun up and with the sun down. It is faster by my reckoning to remove the sun by entering again, and taking the shorter unlit route. But also, you are right, the route between the second and third rooms is faster unlit than by my lit route. So I have to take the lit route from the fourth room to the exit?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the end of step 32? Assuming you start outside the maze, the only way to do that faster is to move diagonally. Is that allowed?

I find it interesting that the correct answer is posted earlier in this thread but it is "discounted" by the one who posted it!
