[AIN] Replies of citizens of Aglaura

From Anita Denney of Del Doyle's, she's pictured with a puppy...

Thanks! Isn't he just the cutest little thing ever? And I'll tell ya, even though he's little he sure lives up to that name of his!

I was hoping she'd recognize my name from their website, having had a recipe on there for over a month.

From Valerie Mason, Personal Home Care Worker

Quote:
That must've been really nice to be able to let your bunny run around outside. Little JoJo is quite the explorer and I'm certain that he would find a way to squeeze through the slats of my fence and into the neighbor's garden. He mostly stays inside with me, but he seems to like it ok. I even get to take him to work with me sometimes!

Oh geez, I have heard so many stories, I simply don't know which I should start with. Ah! I know! This wonderful woman I used to care for named Jeannie told me countless stories about her father. He worked at a door factory for a while and they had this custom there where they would have their daughters come to work during their lunch break. It's not that they wanted to spend some quality time with them, but they would have them deliver buckets of beer! Yes, buckets! And to keep the beer from foaming while all of these little girls carried them to the factory, they would first coat the inside of the buckets with lard! Can you imagine looking out your window at lunchtime and seeing 50 little girls spilling beer all over the street? Jeannie said the dogs in town would line up down the street like clockwork 10 minutes before the break whistle went off to lick up the spills. It must've been quite a sight!

Hi Valerie,
I was reading your profile and found it interesting that you have heard many stories from the oldtimers. Would you care to share some of them with me. I enjoy a good story.

And tell me about JoJo. I use to have a pet bunny I called Bugsy. She had free reign of the yard and was able to come and go from the house as she wanted.

Thanks
Sylvia

I replyed with the following:
Quote:
Valerie,
That story had me rolling on the floor laughing. Keep them coming. I would like to hear more, when you've got the time.

From Sam (nothing that seems key to the plot & mystery, so I'm posting in this thread instead of starting a new one).

Personally, I think it will be crucial to the Chasing the Wish story he's made up. I bet ComicGirlSam will save the day by pulling off her patch and destroying the bad guys with her throat death ray of doom. Wink

AIN reply Luna Peltson lost everything in in a fire

From Luna Peltson:
Quote:

Oh dear, you're not prying at all. My therapist has encouraged me to talk about my loss to anyone who asks. It reminds me that what happened was real. Sometimes it seems like a dream that never really happened.

It happened four years ago. I was working as a waitress at the time and had the late shift that evening. I remember I was taking an order from Brian Talbot and his pregnant wife. She was having a craving for fried chicken and cranberry sauce. It's not something we usually had on the menu, but I told her we'd make it special just for her. That's when I saw the fire truck speed by. Then two police cars and the ambulance. They were heading toward my street. I don't know how I knew, but I just did. I ran out the door and straight to my house. Honestly, I don't know how I made it that far. The closer I got the more sure I was that something was wrong at my house.
When I got there they wouldn't let me go in. I fought to, but the flames were everywhere. It was such a horrid sight, to see everything in your life being destroyed like that. Everything was gone, included my life - my husband and two sweet daughters died that night. They say that they died before the fire even got to them, that the smoke got them first.

That's my loss. I lost every single thing that was important to me that night.

Oh my, I hoped I haven't scared you off. I do have more to offer as a pen pal than just my grief, I promise!

Dale's got something up his sleeve.

My message:
Me wrote:
Dale,
Gotta say, this is a spiffy application. It looks like Aglaura must be teeming with internet-savvy people - that or you've "nudged" a bunch of the townsfolk to get themselves on here. I guess it's all perspective, though - what looks like a lot of dots to me might not be all that many people.

Dale's response:
Dale wrote:
Glad you like this interface, because I'm hoping to use it much frequently to help stay in touch with everyone out there trying to help me. I think it might really facilitate us all sharing information and so on.

Speaking of which, I think I'm finally making some progress in finding a way to make sense of all of this. At least, maybe a place for us to begin doing that. You'll understand better when you see the new Journal post I'm working on and hope to post some time this afternoon. Let me know what you think of it after you see it, OK?

As far as the numver of citizens on here, it's really only a percentage of the entire Aglaura population. A great deal of them are so stuck in the past that they'd never ever consider using omething like this, or even have any idea how to go about it.

Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

Dale

Cue drumroll...

Similar message for me. Here's the "custom" part, for archival purposes:

Dale wrote:
Glad you like this interface. As far as your name, Sam should be able to change it to anything you want, with the only requirement being the system needs both a first and last name. email her though, and she'll help you out.

Keith seems to be an OK person, despite my earlier reservations about him. I'm still not sure I agree with him taking off the way he did, but I understand it and can accept it.

If you run into him at some point, do what you can to help him though. I've got a gut feeling that he's on \"our side\" in all of this.

Speaking of which...

From Gloria LeForte:
Quote:
OMG! you saw FWM in concert for real?!!!! I would absolutely die if I ever got the chance. My fave is still \"Dreams\", nothing beats that song before or since. But anything Rod Stewart does runs a close second. Jimmy was going to take me once, but that was along time ago and we ended up having a huge blowout that weekend, and I took off to New York for a week.

Yeah this place can be kinda weird, I still think the story I posted is one of the weirdest. I get to hear all kinds of stuff around here in my business. People gossip alot when their doing laundry don't you know. Mostly anyone who isn't the gossiping type owns their own machines. Not a day passes without at least one \"Did you hear about ???\". It's sort of fun in way, I'm always in the know.

And speaking of weird, I've had the same damn dryer coming on for four days and all by itself it seems, it was on again today when I opened up.

I thought it might have been some sort of wiring issue or something, so I called Mitch two days ago. Mitch isn't certified proper or anything, but he's been wiring longer than most folks in Aglaura have been alive. He knows what he's doing, well usually he does. He couldn't find much wrong with the dryer, and couldn't find any particular reason why it would be switching on without say-so. But he did clean up some of the loose ends and lint collection. Or so he said.

That's 4 days in a row, and I'm not him paying for something that isn't fixed!

Dammit, wonder how long it's been running. Fire hazard. The whole place could go up, and then where would I be? Not to mention the cost of the electric. I'll have to call someone else I guess. Although if Mitch can't fix it, chances are it isn't broken. I suppose I should disconnect it in the meantime.

Anyway I have to run, but it was nice meeting you. Should I call you Mountain or Girl or MG? And Blessings Abounding right back at you!

Greetings Gloria!
Living in Aglaura for 10 years, I bet you have some great stories!

What do you think is the weirdest story? (I noticed you said living on the edge of the Pine Barrens was weird)

I really dig Fleetwood Mac, too. I saw them about two years ago. Great show! \\\"The Chain\\\" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Blessings Abound,
Mountain Girl

I've received a couple of others as well, but nothing important.

From Arthur Wolff (nothing important, anyway)

Quote:
No actually I haven't read either, although I've heard some good things and been meaning to get to The Pillars of the Earth. If you enjoyed it, I would suggest you try Sarum or The Princes of Ireland on for size. Edward Rutherfurd is my favorite author. Look into some of his other works if historical fiction fuels your fancy. He uses quite a bit of fact based research, and consequently one tends to learn as much about history reading his novels as in a classroom setting, only it's much more enjoyable.

From Peter Bloodaxe, CVS pharmacist.

Quote:
Well, I had a serious addiction going into my 30s. One night, my 32nd birthday to be precise, I hit rock bottom. I woke up on the bathroom floor of a house I don't remember going to, smelling of vomit, liquor and a host of other things I couldn't quite identify. I had never felt more ill in my entire life. I got to my feet, quite shakily, and looked into the mirror at the man I had become. Looking into a mirror can be a very naked thing under the right circumstances. I asked myself where my dreams and hopes had gone, where all the things I had wanted for that man had disappeared to, and then I asked the Lord for his help and guidance.

It was then that I was reborn. Not in the Christian sense, although that happened later as well, but when I talk about rebirth I mean the rebirth of the man that I was supposed to become, the man I wanted to become, the man I had hoped to become.

It wasn't an easy road to be sure, especially the early days, the early years. But here I am, a quarter of a century later, and I now inhabit the body and mind of someone I respect, admire, and love.

And that should really be the goal of everyone, addict or not. To become someone you would be proud to be seen with, proud to parent, proud to marry, and proud to befriend, proud to share this great Gift of Life with.

And this one from Miles Kostenko, Marzent Architect - note I was fishing on this but apparently I didn't have the right bait so didn't catch much.
Though unrelated, I found this interesting. http://www.ipnsig.org/reports/memo-ipnrg-arch-00.pdf
And while googling time travel architecture I found this interesting http://www.physorg.com/preview63371210.html
Quote:
I love to travel when I get the chance. Next to design, it's my one true passion, I hope to tour the world when I retire. I've been to Spain, France, Australia and Ireland, oh and I took the required \"Road Trip Across America\" after I got out of school.

I'm not sure what you mean by \"architecture that would make travel easier\"? You're right, there are a lot of advances in technology, but those mostly make it easier for me to do my job, which actually makes it harder for me to travel.

Cheers!
----------------------
Original Message from Sylvia Fee:
Mr. Kostenko

Two of my favorite subjects, travel and architecture. What can you tell me about them and do you know of any cool architectural that could make travel easier? Stupid question I know. But with today's technology, anythings possible, right?

Thanks for your time

Sylvia

I've been sending AIN messages to anyone I can think to ask a question of. I didn't think the responses were post worthy, but now that Meaghan is missing... well, Sarah told me on the 8th that she would try to spend some time with her. I've AIN messaged both Dale and Sarah tonight to contact eachother.
And while I'm at it, below are the other messages I received.

Although I much prefer designing with the clean lines of modern thought, the most interesting architecture in Aglaura probably belongs to the few older Colonial inspired homes. Lovely to look at, but not as practical I guess as some of the stuff we've been developing.

As someone who has worked in geriatric rehabilitation for many years, it's heartwarming to hear how well the elders of the community are respected. They are, afterall, our history.
To segue from history to architecture; what are some of the more interesting buildings architecturally, that you have seen in Aglaura?

Luna Peltson

Thanks so much for your condolences. The cause of the fire was electrical, improper installation of the downstairs ceiling fan apparently. My husband put it in himself, he didn't want to pay someone to do such a \"little job\", as he called it. Never having done it before himself, he must have really messed up. Hiring an electrician seems like a really inexpensive option now huh?

Life has been treating me okay I guess, I go through the motions. I find myself drifting in thought whenever I'm around children though, I still get pretty down at times.

And thanks for the ear.

Hey Sam,
We just saw from Dale's journal that Meaghan is missing.
I know you'd want to help in anyway you could. I don't mean to panic anyone, but the more eyes, and hearts and minds on this, the better; right?
Contact Dale.

Driz,

Thank you for your effort to help out.

Yes, I did check with Sarah and Meaghan isn't there. It was a good suggestion, though. I'm really, really starting to panic here. It's after midnight already and we have no idea where she is.

Diana has called the police already. I've been out driving up and down the streets looking for her, but haven't seen anything.

I'll try and stay in touch but I'm going back out searching again. She has to be out there somewhere.

Isn't it the most awful thing? I have been out there looking for her to no avail. Dale's really upset. This is a really helpless feeling. Keep your fingers crossed.

I'm distressed about this. I hope your right, though. Is this something that Meaghan would do?

Then, right after that at at 2:04 Sarah replied to an old message I sent on Aug 11th
Quote:
Drizabella,

Drat, I didn't see this message before I responded to the other! Sorry to flood your message center thingie. I'll never get the hang of this system.

Anyway, the move is going very well. Tonight will be my first night in the new (old) place. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a lot of sleep in the forecast as we try to track down sweet Meaghan. I've been okay, but still having nightmares. Traumatic summer and all that. I'm sure I'll be right as rain soon.

August 14 2:30 am Sarah just answered an AIN message I sent her a while back. Does anyone know where the Aglaura cemetery is.

Quote:
Dear Sylvia,

It really was silly of me to put that people should ask me what my favorite book is, since I love them all like my children. If it has words, I will read it. I'm almost compulsive that way! Art, to me, is more of an expression, but sometimes like a reflex, too. It builds up in me like a sneeze, and sometimes it bursts out just as suddenly. And satisfyingly!

About my pictures, the Diverse, etc. one is a knife made of Damascus steel. One of my Library patrons came in one day and I overheard him talking about it and, of course, butted into the conversation. It's really unusual looking. My understanding is that they take a piece of steel and work it, folding it over and pounding it flat, until it becomes very sharp and holds a good edge. I sort of use it to remind me that, \"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.\" Number 5 is a passion flower that I grew last spring. I love to work the earth with my hands but I haven't had time to do it this year. And last, the watcher is actually a tombstone. Some days when my mood is just right, I like to wander around the cemetery and reflect on lives lived. Maybe silly of me, I know, but it's a nice quiet place to while away the hours.

Best,
Sarah
----------------------
Original Message from Sylvia Fee:
Sarah,

Please tell me about you favorite book and all about what art means to you.

Speaking of art I noticed several pictures in your \\\"Every Picture Tells a Story.\\\" Specifically pictures 4, 5 and 6. Wha is that diverse, strong, melded object in picture 4 and what is its story. Picture 5 you call \\\"My Passion,\\\" on please tell me about that one too. But especially picture 6 titled \\\"He who keeps watch,\\\" I just have to know about that one.
I know your busy with the move and all, but when you get the time could you satisfy my curiosity. Remember curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back.

Dying to be brought back.
