[UPDATE] Aglaura News Aug 9 Council Meeting Call-in Tue Aug

Quote:
August 9, 2006:

Marzent Holds Press Conference

Local development company Marzent held a press conference on Monday, August 7th at their headquarters in Aglaura. Communications Director Bruce Abbott conducted the press conference and began by reading a prepared statement about the company's ongoing and future plans for the community. According to the statement, Marzent is fully involved in helping Aglaura recover from the multiple fires that occurred a couple of weeks ago, by donating both money and resources to repair damage to the new Aglaura municipal building, and also offering to take over the demolition and re-purposing of the completely destroyed Aglaura Library building. Part of their proposal includes the creation of a memorial park on the former Library site, dedicated to the memory of Mayor Dobbs's late mother, who was the Head Librarian at the facility for many years.

The press conference also revealed the first details of Marzent's new Phase 2 Redevelopment Plan for Aglaura, following on the heels of the defeat of their earlier Phase proposal. The plan will be presented at the next Aglaura Borough Council meeting, and will include, among other things, a proposal to create a wireless computer network for the entire town at no cost to the residents or Borough government, and a plan to upgrade the main highway running through town to accommodate the ongoing expansion of the area.

Aglaura Borough Council Meeting to feature Phone-In Participation Again

Next Tuesday's regular Aglaura Borough Council meeting will once again include a call-in session at the end, allowing non-residents to participate in the discussions of the day. While Mayor Dobbs refused to explain exactly what issue prompted the decision for the special format of the meeting, he did say that it was the result of a request from non-residents who wish to present their side about a critical issue to the community. The Mayor promised an announcement about the exact agenda and details of the call-in participation later this week.

The Aglaura Borough Council meets regularly every third Tuesday of the month at 7:00PM.

Aglaura IntraNet Launches

Sam Greene, the Aglaura webmaster and network administrator, has declared the new Aglaura community IntraNet "fully operational and open for business" after a successful and bug-free launch last week. The IntraNet system, located at http://ain.intronetworks.com, is an interactive community software tool designed to help groups, or towns in this case, to get to know each other and communicate quickly and easily. It's easy to sign up and anyone can join, even if you are not a citizen of Aglaura. "There's no easier way to stay in touch with what is happening in our wonderful town," said Mayor Pat Dobbs.

A Piece of Aglaura History Disappears

Phyllis Willingham said she shed a tear as she locked the doors to her local business, the Hollow Needle, for the very last time. Although the closing was voluntary and the result of a family medical situation, it still wasn't an easy thing to do. The Hollow Needle has long been one of the County's premier antique shops, and Phyllis's expertise has been sought by many local collectors hundreds of times over the years. "Aglaura will just not be the same without the Hollow Needle," said one local customer of the shop, "even though I understand why Phyllis needs to do it and support her fully in her decision. But it's like losing a member of my family, or a part of or community history. It's very sad."

The third Tuesday of this month is August 15th.

Aglaura Citizens Speak Out!

"Isn't it absolutely wonderful that Marzent wants to pay to fix up all the damage from those fires we had? That ought to shut up those people who are going around whispering that they were responsible for it all, no?"

(Marla Barton - Superintendent, Aglaura Independent School District. Voted for the redevelopment plan. )

Yeah I got an email from Sam about the phone-in thing (I'll put it in the Interactions section just to be clear).

Trying to plan what to say - any ideas?

I know there was speculation last night in the chat about this being cancelled, but it seems it's still going to happen. With last night's events, ooh boy.

I think I might request that the autopsy results of whoever was found in the woods be made public.

None, yet Jenna. I'll bet, that after what's happened the last two days, it will be canceled.

Sorry, the details are up now. Things are a bit crazy here today. I came in late and now have all this prep to do for the meeting... which is soon... gah!

Oh! And the \"best\" part... the bossman just got sick and went home. He asked me to run the meeting. Help! Sad

Sam
