New Player Start Up

Hi, I'm relatively new to ARG's. I used to play majestic....until EA canceled it. I pretty much haven't played anything since. I recently decided to look back into ARG's seeing as my experience with majestic was rewarding. I found ARGN and was pleased. Although I thought its getting started guide and website in general was lacking and confusing. My main problem was that I got redirected to bbs's....nowhere did I find actual ARG's. On most of these boards, like this one, I found some links to ARG's but only at halfway points where players had already played through. I just want to play from the beggining. So can you please help me find any beggining points to some decent ARG's(preferably free onces)? I am aware of the on-going aspects of ARG's as they proress whether ot not you do, but I hate starting anything (movies, games music) from the middle.

Don't take this as re-post as I adress many more issues than just starting points, such as user friendliness of the boards and ARGN.

Unless this isn't a newb friendly board, in which case I'm wasting my time. Fnord.

welcome.

Yes, we're a pretty newbie friendly place and, for the most part, one of the friendlier gathering spots in this crazy online world. The only thing that most round these parts are a stickler on is searching before asking questions. Though, that's fairly typical of most online forums.

Now, as you pointed out, ARGs are an ongoing thing and if you don't want to get involved in a game that's already started then you're likely going to have to wait until one does start. To keep you busy while that's happening, you might want to check out the BBC's Jamie Kane which may or may not float your boat - it's target audience is teen girls and it's not a collaborative community based ARG, but it's still pretty cool if only to help you find some sort of ARG-like fix. You can find it at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/jamiekane/

Otherwise, if you aren't wanting to wait for a new one, you're going to have to play catch-up. That's just the nature of these things. The websites and characters react in real time and change as the story progresses. There is no going back in time, heck, if we could, I'd go back a few hours and not have that half a pot of coffee that has me up still at 3:15. But, if I did that, I'd not have been able to welcome you to unfiction so, I s'pose, good things do happen when you go with the flow of it all.

Hiya, oxdeltaxo!

Yeah, old message boards and asset archives are generally what you're gonna get when perusing ARGs from past times. It's just the nature of the thing - ARGs can certainly be constructed as replayable, but the experience itself is ephemeral, and does not hold itself together the same way once the playtime has concluded.

Also, what imbri said.
