Looking towards next season.

Looking towards next season, does anyone know where to get information on getting cast on to next season's show?

Jefferson Memorial is my answer ...

The Jefferson Memorial looks like a keyhole, right. Imagine yourself beneath the Jefferson memorial looking North West -- the same direction as the feint line from the blue rose on the paper clue -- from here you'd see the Lincolm memorial. You're submerged. Something submerged is a reef.

uh no. Rolling Eyes If you COULD see the LM from the Jefferson Memorial (you can't), you would be seeing it from its southeast corner. NOT the view you saw in the game (northeast corner). Now if you submerged yourself in the Potomac River... Please.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The final solution and 10 winners have been posted to NBC's Message Board (In this post). Here is that post:

The treasure you have been looking for is The Star Spangled Banner, located at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

(We accepted the Smithsonian and/or The National Museum of American History as the correct answer.)

Well done to the ten winners -- anyone we know?

I dont know if any us are on the list but its nice to know we were right early on (page 9 of the thread), and I don't think it would be a small stretch to think maybe at least one of the winners might have peeked in here and thought it was a good answer.

SSB

So the SSB was right! Good work. I still don't get the "for free" part - but I guess they wanted to highlight that anyone can get into the Smithsonian for free.

true treasure hunters

Hi!

I know that I have not posted many things here-but I found these forums kinda nice. I am also new, new, new to forums etc. I became a member during the Volvo Hunt online game. Played a while before I actually found out there are forums. And unfiction seemed like a great place to start.

Then I started this Treasure Hunters game-came back to unfiction and it was a whole different ballgame.

Now KNOW this as a fact. I am not a cry in my milk kinda gal and am writing this with a lot of humor-but you find a lot of truth in humor.

I don't post a lot-I have always been a little shy at feeling like a fool-and I hope I don't ever insult someone else-but I have a problem with someone treating others like they are not worth the time of day. I however appreciate dancing in the endzone and sarcasm. There is a difference between fun sarcasm and insulting.

Gotta say that several times in this forum I found out it must be a private one cause other than RPGgame I felt like I was intruding-or possibly RPGgame was just playing with me. Nice!

I consequently went over to the NBC boards and found a lot of highly inteligent-fun-sarcastic-inventive members. Some insulting but mostly a real working team. Slap on the back telling each other when the effed up kinda team.

Also Randomeis quote:

I DOUBT IT!! Get a reality check-check out how many forums there were and if you played this game to the core-you did not peek!!

Besides a lottery draw of that magnitude withe the post cards included couldn't have ment jack crap as to how fast you answered anything.

By the way at least four out of ten were NBC Boards winners-and I wonder how many out of the remaining 6 were post card entries.

My meaning:stuffing yourselves in a "us guys" we will only talk to each other-let's go to a chat room kinda thought-spoils it for unfiction as a whole.

Check out the postings and the dates-the majority of players-your forum or any other nailed SSB-NMAH. It did not take a stretch to get that. Just because a member does not post every single thought or post every piece of research-that does not mean that they are not workin the puzzles any harder.

POINT: I thought "you guys" were true treasure hunters and welcomed other unfiction members to be a part of the team. It seemed to me (and I could be all wrong) that you took your gameboard and went off by yourselves. How old are "you guys" anyway.

Step up to the plate and let me know what is on your minds-be mature-sarcasm is welcomed-but be real. If you go off on a flame-I'll know how dignified you are not.

Again-Volvo the Hunt was great. Hope other unfiction forums will be able to rise to that level of true treasure hunting forums.

To unfiction-this has kinda made me go hmmmmm!!

Now that I have dipped my big toe into the forum/boards/posting/playing thing-I had fun on the Volvo thing-especially with unfiction and the moderators were fantastic and completely on in how they conducted themselves.

But this treasure hunters forum.

hmmmmm possibly killer betties would like my donation. Who would donate $$ just to be in a high school forum? By the way-in high school-I never picked sides and was very close to the geeks and the highly popular kids-I just never played games-and others appreciate that.

Hope to see some posts relating to this-can you handle the truth-I can.
Wink

I originally sent this as a PM, but I think that others in this thread may need to hear it as well:

The original (and still top) purpose of unfiction is a forum for the open discussion & META for Alternate Reality Games. It exists outside any game universe so no game characters allowed. And PMs (Puppet Masters) are not suppose to react to posting or information in here (unless someone playing the game has communicated that information directly to an ingame character).

By popular demand (okay, last year there was a little contest that had a very ARG element to it, cough, AoTH, cough) and UF opened up non-ARG threads for some online gaming at special request. But first & foremost we are here as a collective community and for fun above all else.

Please do not judge all of UF because of some folks in a contest thread. That is why there are not more contest threads in here - when a prize or money is at stake, some folks get a little weird or overprotective. Even territorial where they have no right to be so (since this forum is NOT their territory - it belongs to SpaceBass and he has invited us to play ARGs with him).

Come out of the contest threads and start exploring the real ARG world and you will find a much richer, friendlier world of folks in UF.

treasure hunters

j15bell - I was playing along with everyone else in the forum here and not in chat about this game at all. Sorry if you didn't feel that I was or if I did something that gave you the impression I wasn't. My guesses were all over the place. I guessed the Lincoln Memorial early in the game because someone posted a good analysis of why that might be right. I did some Fort McHenry stuff to be different but I did go with the building the SSA is in a couple of times as well.

Honestly, I didn't have much to add about the game and the puzzles except to ask a bunch of questions.

I think I did say at one point that we shouldn't overthink this one- at least I was right about something !

I don't know where you got that impression. I followed along with the game strictly via the boards as I was a few weeks getting into the playing along part. I never got the feeling that people were going off to 'secret chat rooms' to play by themselves. While this board didn't have some of the complete walkthroughs that the NBC board had, all the information was still there. If people were stuck on a particular section, they were given hints/answers to get them past. While I know one chatroom was mentioned early on in the thread, I'm not sure how much it was ever utilized (I know I went there the last night and no one was in there). Some of us did hang out in #ctu and discussed bits and pieces to the games, but none of it was earth shattering. We mostly just chatted about how much we hated the Fogels and how dense the teams could be: Just take a candle to the parchment already!

I know you said you were writing your post with a lot of humor, but I see a lot more humor in Randomeis post than I do in yours. No one is under the impression that we're the only board doing stuff like this. We're not even the only ARG board. And, if you look back through the posts, you'll see that we've even took stuff from the NBC boards. All he was trying to say was that it is possible that one of the winners might have looked at this board at one point in time (and with 29000+ views you know a lot of ppl have been looking). And he's not even saying that's wrong. That's what this board is here for. We don't compete here - we cooperate. If we were all truly competing against everyone else (or even against other boards) do you think we would:
a: let non-members see our posts?
b: let new people join just to see our posts?
c: attempt to troubleshoot the issues that people were having with the final puzzle so that they could submit their answer?

Like I said at the beginning, I just don't see where anyone on this thread was being all elistist and secretive and non-welcoming. Well, there's one post (and it's not Randomesis) that is kinda horn tooting, but at the same time it does show that we share and not do not horde answers.

Heist? Do you mean Urns because I don't remember there being a contest during Heist? Unless there was a contest in seeing who could insult Virgil the most that I wasn't aware of. Very Happy

knoamouse,

Thank you for your reply. It was informative. Since Volvo Hunt was my first real experience in forums I have not explored the ARG world. Quite frankly I could not have a semi-intelligent conversation about it. Possibly once I experienced it-it may be right up my alley. I may know more about it than I think-possibly not. But thank you for the guidance in how to look at unfiction.

I usually disregard the coments that sound like there may be $$ in the speakers eyes. I am old enough to have heard that way too often. I usually will listen to others experience and advice since I don't like to repeat history in the mistake arena of life. There are a lot of good people that like to give that advice because they really don't want to see others go through the bad stuff too. I think a young adult (age 19-35 or so) could stop to take that kind of advice too. It's like cheating on a game where 'that' cheating should be a help not a shortcut. That kind of cheating is allowed in life.

All in all I will go exploring BECAUSE of the tight knit group that started this "public forum".

ROSE:

I agree with you. You played nice. There was no reason for you to take my post as anything towards you. I think if you read the forum from the beginning you will catch on as to I was referring to.

And please many answers were acceptable. In the beginning I answered Ft. McHenry-Baltimore-Washington D.C.-The National Mall-Museum of History and Technology, Wash. D.C.-NMAH-NMAH-NMAH. My daughter started playing and I told her she should answer the LM at least once to cover herself. I could not critisize any answer. I just thought almost at first it was the SSB-NMAH. I just doubted myself thinking that was too easy. Again-dancing in the end zone because you are right is great-flaming someone because you think they are wrong is just not right.
You played nice rose!! Thanks for the team spirit.

All in all. The "guys" to whom I am referring to know who they are. I just think it would be big of you to admit it. I hope that those "guys" CAN understand how they behaved. And I think they are intelligent enough to have known that they each had a chance in-I couldn't guess-possibly 20,000-to have their entry picked. Heck playing a lottery scratch off game has better odds. So I don't think it was the $$ signs in their eyes. I still think that they thought they were going to play in their own private forum. They just should have let us know-then when the shy members or newbies try to help or ask for help-they are not ignored. Instead they had a kinda of shhh don't say too much here kinda game.

Thanks konamouse and rose.

(And by online gaming, she did NOT mean gambling!)

I wonder if the last few contests have been typical of what we should expect in the future. Is the experiment over? Are all other contests going to become welcome forum topics, as long as they have some puzzle element to be solved or an ARG-like story environment to play in? Should we have special rules of conduct written to remind people that we still share information, even if we cannot share the final prize?

I'm not sure what my opinion is, and it probably doesn't count for very much anyway. It's not my site. I'm only wondering whether the community is strengthened or diluted by widening its scope -- and hoping we draw the line at sweepstakes entries.

lighten things up

Sorry catherwood: Since I came into forums druing the Volvo Hunt I thought it was one of the many unfiction forums and the norm.

Now I would like to share some fun.

If no one has posted this yet-this guy may look familiar-he did to me. Wink

Hats off to Igor and PortaM for sharing. His reference:when bad Lincoln Memorials happen to good treasure hunters Smile

(Igor you are a true team treasure hunter!)
