Top set, not so top set

Now that all the cards are out, and scans are available for people who haven't got them yet, I was curious as to what people's favourite and least favourite sets of four are? The cards work on so many different levels, from puzzles to pieces of artwork, that I suspect there may be a lot of different views.

Overall, I think the complete collection of 256 (+2) is one hell of an achievement, and I can't wait for season two Smile

My favourite from S1 is the red pixel set - I love the inventiveness and execution of "Read between the lines", "Paint factory explosion" is gorgeous to look at, while the other two really work to get across the personalities of the CRT - plus, a real life phone number to ring and Garnet with his shirt off. What's not to like? Wink

The set I'm least fond of is the blue ivy set. There's nothing wrong with "Dot Gone", but I just never got "Aibohphobia" - the card makes me feel like an idiot for not understanding it. The other two are good cards but hopelessly misfiled - "Detail" is way easier than similar red and orange cards, while "Ales of the Earth" is significantly harder than the Purple "Vexillogy".

So - what works for you and what doesn't?

My favourite set would likely have to be... hm... Black Flames? I really enjoyed Linguini Junction and Three, and Headrush was an amazing headdesker when you finally figure it out.

Least favorite set, I'll have to agree, Blue Ivy. Detail was too easy, Aibohphobia still confuses me after 5 explanations, Ales was just a dull exercise in googling, and Dot Gone has stared at me far too many times upon opening a pack.

My favorit set was black ivy. the painting one was really funny, and the paper cuts from confounding cube were very painful. Very Happy

I would like to choose Black Maze or Silver Flames, but as I have not solved any complete Black or Silver sets I won't Dunce

Instead I nominate Blue Hex, because I lurve This Sentence Is False curse you double-solve cards and Mornington Crescent.

And can I second third that about Aibohphobia, I have so far resisted looking up the answer (would I ever do such a thing?) but I am sorely tempted (now that I know that it is not just me)...

Top set: Silver ivy
A very borderline silver set, which gives a good sense of satisfaction to anyone able to solve them. Broadside has good artwork, NAND compelled me to sit and solve it on a train, then make the final connection at home, and Primer was an easy enough code to figure out but then gets hard once you figure out the encoding. Shame Instruction is nothing super-special, though certainly something I wouldn't have thought of creating.

Special mention: Red flames
Von trying (and failing) to pick up chicks, scratch-n-sniff, and my signed MC card all make this a fun set. Shame that Out on a Limb isn't at all special.

Worst set: I hate to agree with everyone, but blue ivy does stick out
Mainly for the same reasons as everyone else. I also still don't get Aibohphobia, Detail should've been the red (Read Between the Lines should have been the orange, and Muscae Volitantes should have been the blue, that one is hard to see), and Ales is just annoying.

Personal Favorite: Purple Flame Set

#165 = The second most annoying maze I have ever dealt with. I love it.
#166= Very Creative, I actually learned something on Photoshop for that one.
#167= My Math teacher ended up using this as an example during a short lecture.
#168= Tippy in a towel, and "Milk Maid Costume"? Can we get an artists rendition of that one?

Least Favorite: Blue Ivy Set
#129= the hardest googling in my life...
#130= Made me think to the point where I almost gave myself a migraine... TMI!!!
#131= Should they have used Muscae Volitantes here instead?
#132= Vexillogy was easy compared to this one...

Favorite set:

Purple Water:
189: A challanging one, especially that I didn't have a meter stick, I had to do it in inches and convert it.
190: A wierd, yet fun puzzle, the answer was a little strange, but it was fun.
191:Fun transcribing it, equally as fun finding the answers.
192:Google earth helped alot, which is always fun to use, and the clues made my brain hurt

Least favorite set:

Black HexL
201:Come on, a two year old could have gotten that!
202:A really hard card with no great answer, and tons of people probably had more logical answer then the correct ones.
203:I hate physics, I don't do that for fun!
204:The only way to get this card right is to know the movie, which i didnt!

Oh, this is hard. I keep finding sets with one card I loved and 1 I hated.

Favourite Sets:

Red Pixel, for reasons given above
Black Stars, 'cos I solved all of these without resorting to the forums.

Least favourite set: Purple Ivy.
Dances with Bees was way too easy (1 google search and 2 minutes). Weighs and Means got 'adjusted' after publishing. Loopy pixels I still can't see the answer. Domino Dilemma was ok, but nothing special.

Oh, and for those who don't get Aibophobia: I strongly recommend reading "Godel Escher Bach". It's an extremely interesting and well written book. It's in my top 5 most important popular science book list.

This is difficult...

Favourite set - Black Water I think

#221 - Looked at the card and had the 'Aha!' moment immediately...I think it helped that I'm a Frank Miller fan and had just solved 222!
#222 - One of those odd ones where I thought I had it immediately (thought it was a Hawkswood reference first) then when I went to the solve page I realised the right answer.
#223 - Didn't really like this one, but the previous two made up for it!
#224 - Loved this, another great moment of putting things together.

Least favourite set

Well unlike most other people I really liked Ales of the Earth, yeah it was 'dull googling' but it wasn't easy googling and even when you got it the answer was reasonably difficult to find (I remember PMing quite a few people with hints to the right combination of search terms!). Plus I liked Abidhophobia, thought it was neatly written and really quite clever.

To be honest I can come up with quite a few cards I didn't like, but as far as a set goes I'd have to go Purple Circle, mostly as they were the first purple cards I solved, were all very simple and made it so I got really annoyed when I couldn't solve other purple cards as I'd got it stuck in my head that I could easily solve purples!
