is that who you think he sent the mask too? Wouldn't it be one of us? Or are you saying that perhaps another in game character would be handing out the mask in person to one of us in california?

Has anyone told Dale about the letters from Phyllis and the notes from J.D.? If not, I think he needs to be told or reminded and then asked to keep an eye on Sarah. It's clear that the entity in the house is gaining control of her. I know that Sam has been told about things - just wonder if Dale been.

I also wonder if her comment about the sunbeam under the bed might not be trying to tell us we need to look under something - that our focus has been on the surface. Like the map of Aglaura with the overlays. Didn't someone say that the middle arrow is really facing down?

[Update] Sixthofnever.com 8/13/06

So Meaghan's not with Sarah...

UPDATE

Quote:
She went whichaway?
D. called me just now, sounding more than a bit worried. He can’t find his daughter, and apparently nobody else can either. He thought she might have come to spend some time with me, but I just did some quick figuring in my head, and I don’t think I’ve seen her in something like two weeks! How does time go by so quickly?

What I’d like to know (and I’m sure I’m not the only one) is where the people who were supposed to be watching over M. were when she went missing. And honestly, if it were me, I might have run off, too. But I’m hoping I can catch up with her, hoping she’s on her way over for ice cream and girl talk. I’m going to head over to the old loft to see if she might have gone there instead of here, since this is my first night at the new place. Wish me luck, and if you happen to run across M., send me or D. an email.

(Is it awful that I’m happy to have something to delay bedtime and its associated dreams? Yeah, I think so, too.)

An uneasy partnership

Quote:
Stamped: August 15th, 2006

First of all, as I'm sure everyone knows, M. is safe and sound, thanks to the help of the wonderful people on the IntraNet who helped guide our searchers. I am continually amazed by what people can do, especially as a group. What an amazing thing to watch unfold.

But just as amazing was watching the incredible blend of skills from the command center. I decided to see if I could assist S. and I., since I was pretty bushed from being up all night searching town and didn't trust myself traipsing through the woods. For sure, I would have broken a leg or sprained my dignity and caused more problems than I solved. And I do admit to not a small amount of trepidation when I found that those two ladies would be in the same room all night, given that their previous relationship was close to a canine-feline level.

And of course, it started out a bit roughly, but as time progressed, the two of them seemed to fall into a pattern of working together like it was meant to be. It could not have been a less unlikely pair, the computer whiz and the spiritualist, but they ended up complimenting each others' skills and, by the end of the evening, I think they gained some newfound respect for each other. To my great relief, for soon I won't have P. around to arbitrate between the two ladies.

So that is well and good. Too bad I had to come home to more nightmares. Maybe they have seeped into my pillow and I am receiving them via osmosis. I'm going to go to the store tonight to get a different pillow. What sounds like silly superstition during the day seems eminently reasonable in the middle of the night.

Oh, and Chief P. announced that the former missing persons investigation is now upgraded to a full-on murder investigation. They found a body last night in the woods, and apparently it was pretty brutal. Have mercy on his soul; have mercy on this town. The man handing out my masks is a suspect in the killing. How could someone who has taken such great care to preserve art viciously take the life of another human? I have a hard time believing that, and I'm sure there's more to the story there.

Update Ring Around the Abattoir
Quote:

Stamped: August 16th, 2006

I am a child; we are all childen, all of us girls, and we are in a dark but spacious room. We are holding hands in a ring, circling widdershins, singing loudly and a little off-key.

Ring around the rosy
A pocketful of ashes
Catch her
Catch her
She'll get away!

I watch and one of the girls sinks into the ground, clawing and crying so hard that snot is bubbling out of her nose, ripping her fingernails off on the concrete as she slips under. Nobody else can see her go. The other girls are in a trancelike state. They slowly awaken after she's gone, notice there's a gap in the ring, and close towards each other to grasp hands again.

Over and over, girls slip into the dirt as if it were water. There are just two of us left. I look at her; she knows nothing. Instead of holding her hands and singing, I cling to her to try to keep her from going down, arms firmly wrapped under her armpits so I can support her weight. She must weigh 800 pounds. I can't hold her anymore. She looks at me and understands that she's going; I do too. We both cry as we stare at each other, fear reflected in each other's eyes. I scream, "Don't go, I need you!" but she is gone already. The echo of my scream bounces around the walls and turns into the cackling of a madman. I know who is laughing.

When I woke up, my back was stiff and sore.

Oh, by the way, I found my original sketch for Technology. Hope someone enjoys it. I'm not sure if it's possible for me to enjoy anything in my current mood.

Trying to make out what is said on the drawing.

The right side (your left) is labeled Latest Technology . The left side (your right) is labeled Early Technology.

On the Early Technology side (your right) I can make out the following:

1. gears represent mechanical thought
2. the spring that powers the techno-drive

On the Latest Technology side I can make out the following:

1. Where to get p_ _ board?
2. Camera lens to (see through dark__)
3. get keys (3 b_ _rck!)
4. Communication in the modern age.

At the bottom

fray wire ends (representing the ______ ______ of ____)

To fill in the blanks..
(3 boards!)
Probably means she'll need three keyboards, because there are 3 L's in the phrase "HELLO WORLD".
And...
(respresenting the eventual downfall of techno)

My take on Sylvia's missing words:
1. Where to get proc. board? ("proc." = short for "processor"
2. Camera lens (to see through {clearly?})
3. get keys ({3 b are ok!?}) (Though drizjr's explanation makes better sense)

At the bottom

fray wire ends (representing the eventual downfall of {techno?})

Two words I had to look up from the blog:

widderhsins usually means counterclockwise. More:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widdershins

abattoir means slaughterhouse. More:

To see through darkly probably comes from:

Quote:
Bible, 1 Corinthians 13, verse 11)

When I was a child, I spake as a child,
I understood as a child, I thought as a child:
but when I became a man, I put away
childish things. For now we see through a
glass, darkly; but then face to face: now
I know in part; but then shall I know even
as also I am known.

This reminded me of one of J.D.'s journals:
J.D. wrote:
There's three little kids playing ring around the rosy in my head, and in the corner, and when they all fall down, they really fall down. And it's NOT my fault. I know it! HIS!

"Hello World" goes back a long ways. It's used a lot by developers in debugging their programs. To check if the program is getting to a certain point in it's structure, the developer puts in a response (usually to the screen) saying, "Hello World".
