Hi, not sure if people are checking this, but thought i'd have a go.

I'm totally new to ARGs, and (belatedly)played along with the syst3m pre-game....very cool indeed, solved a few myself, had to cheat on a few too!! Love the idea of the game spilling over slightly into the real world.

I an earlier post, someone mentioned a forum where you guys actually do the solving and discussion about the puzzles/problems. Is this an open forum, or someone's private site for those in the know? Couldn't seem to find it at all. Also, anyone heard any more of 'IMPACT' and when we can expect it? Will we have to keep checking the site, or will we get a in-game email?

Hope it comes around soon, the pre-game was really well put together i thought, in my limited (i.e. non-existant) experience!

Anything found at those coordinates, or was that for future ref??

Cheers guys, any response/news will be much appreciated

wil.

A lot of the interaction is done iin IRC chatrooms. Go to http://www.unfiction.com/chat/ in order to see a list of the rooms (for the various games) as well as the IRC server that hosts them.
Welcome, and I hope you stick around. The games are great. Be sure to check out some of the others and keep an eye on the Rumors forum. New ones pop up there first.

Dear Players,

Thank you for your interest in the syst3m/Arcana Pre-game.
I feel that because you've all been such great players and we've had fantastic
feedback from you. I should play fair, and let you know the situation
surrounding the continuation of the narrative.
We have not imploded, in fact quite the opposite has happened;
Since creating the syst3m pre-game the development team has dramatically
increased and
The project is now funded by a number of large sources (HP to name one). Due to
this we aim to develop a form of ARG previously not seen, taking advantage of a
number of new technologies we have been donated.

There is a large team currently working on this project full time. So what began
as a small grassroots ARG is now a full time Job for many of those involved.
This means that the project we are now working on is of the scale and quality of
the largest ARG's
(Such as the Beast, ILB or Lost exp) but with out the narrative constraints of
working in a pre-built universe. We have the very highest standards for the
quality of the story and content in our work. So therefore we have totally
re-written the original story and are currently filming, scripting and coding a
huge amount of new content.
Although the project is now privately funded, it will still be totally free to
play, and is
NOT an advert for any sort of product (media or otherwise.)
We launch in Jan 2007. I do apologize for this delay but I assure you, it will
be worth it!

PM

The new game take place in 2007 15years prior to IMPACT

*sigh*

I'd find that much easier to believe if the email made even the slightest effort at professionalism by, for example, approaching correct written standard English. Rolling Eyes

Hi PMs! The next addition to your staff should be a proofreader.

Well, there we disagree.

This email was essentially an advertisement for the game. If the PMs can't even write in complete sentences, that reflects poorly on their ability to write.

And yes, I followed the game, since I was one of the three people to whom the original invitation emails were sent. The website was well-designed aesthetically, but the positive impression I got from my intial visit was undermined immediately by numerous spelling and grammatical mistakes throughout its text.

If they're going to attempt to put on a professional-scale game with corporate backing, they owe it to themselves, their players, and most especially their sponsor not to embarrass themselves -- and said sponsor -- by indulging in this sort of sloppiness.

It's called professionalism. And again, it's something they owe both their audience, and, from a purely self-interested standpoint, their sponsor.

I agree that there is the odd spelling mistake in the game.
But in defence of the PM’s, we’ve not paid to play the game, and as commented on before this grassroots campaign clearly cost a lot of time and money. So rather than criticize, isn’t it better to thank the PM’s and look forward to future instalments? Shouldn’t we encourage those who spent time, money and effort to entertain us? Especially when they can produce a game of this quality! Am I alone in thinking this way? Sad

This is a meta conversation which has been argued endlessly on this board. Some say hey, it's free entertainment, we should encourage it; some say that if the PMs are going to try to approach professionalism, they should act like it.

In any event, we won't tolerate name-calling of other posters on the board. Please remain civil.

Better to criticize now, while they can still fix it before the game starts.

And the mistakes are not "odd." They're wrong.

So, again, I hope they're reading and finding a proofreader.

All right, I'm done. Rolling Eyes

I think you take the game too seriously when you worry about spelling mistakes.

My problem is that many parts of this ARG are very professional. Look at the use of film and animation! It’s much better then most large scale ARG’s! Can we not excuse a few small errors? Or is it a case that these things should be perfect or not be made at all?

I think you loose the actual atmosphere of the game when you try to find minor and inconsequential errors with the game. You loose the point of having fun when all you can think about is how someone misspelled a word or used a grammar format your not accustomed to where you come from....in the end it really doen't matter because the aim of the game is not to spellcheck them it's to have fun.

The conversation about spelling is off-topic in here. Please feel free to start a thread in Meta about it. Thanks!
