Another question;
For #17, do we need the unknown 17th initial in the anagram?

when it gets past the top places, is there still going to be a strict order to choices?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, but the order on the post is the choosing order. The current picker is also listed on the prizes post so you'll know when it's your turn.

I had urbs for 'Latin city' in my 1st attempt but thought it was wrong and took it out! Had Pasiphae for the "hatched a plot against her husband" as she gave birth to ('hatched') the minotaur which was Poseidon's revenge on Minos. Not sure how i didnt come across Clytemnestra in my research, but there you go. And even though i considered the Minotaur a possibility for the answer for "to elude him, pacify his mother?", simply because he was a famous greek monster, and even though id also been looking at Pasiphae for the other answer, I COMPLETELY missed the Pasiphae-pacify connection, DOH!! Seems so obvious now.
Did anyone else think Britain was the answer for the naval lists? Thought it might be cuz of this page but alas no.
Cheers for the quiz badbarry, and the many hours of frustration!
Now i must wait and pray for a silver being left by the time it gets all the way down to me
P.S. How many million card packs did you buy to have sooo many spare blacks/silvers!!

This site here might be useful for the anagram (does 8 languages including Latin).

Oooh, many many millions, I have absolutely no willpower . I've said it before but I reckon even if I do find the cube I'll still be down on the deal. At least though I now have keys to the executive washroom at firebox, deckboosters, jaffasworld and ebay.

Yes, that is a good site. I should point out that the answer is vaguely well known (certainly in classics circles) and not just something I made up.

I missed it. Gah. I missed seeing this game and these are the sorts of puzzles I am good at solving. I have spent far too much time studying mythology. The only useful way I have used it is to entertain my son and his friends when they were small by telling them stories. It did keep them quiet in restaurants while we were waiting for the food to be served. They loved Theseus and the Minatour and I like to think that I would have gotten that one, but, all puzzles seem easy in hindsight.
What a great idea. Thanks so much for making this badbarry.
Congrats to the winners.

D'oh! Exactly my thinking, on both counts...took 'urbs' out because I thought it was too easy. And 325 BC marks the earliest attested reference to Britain, as well as the first Tsunami the greeks ever encountered!
But hey, learinng all these random facts still earned me a silver. So sweet! Thanks again, badbarry! Generous AND inventive...

I had britain as well for 15.
I was pretty poor at answering these questions. Found likely answers for some of questions but kept picking the wrong open. Cheers for the puzzle was fun.

Wow, ermmmm, I never expected a) As many entries and b) So many people to get so many answers. I did SO badly at that and must have spent about 10 hours googling things and coming up blank.
Well well done to everyone, I just hope there are blacks I need left by the time it gets to little old me at the bottom of the list
