Hello All,

Thought I'd drop by and reply regarding the speculation about SteornWatch.com being part of a Steorn ARG.

We do plan to post about each of the "hoax" theories that exists, including that it is a big ARG. As you can tell at the moment, the site is barely there. Just been working on setting it up and trying to recruit some contributers to help with writing and internet researching.

The site is "slick" because i used a template from Headsetoptions which I found at http://themes.wordpress.net/columns/2-columns/877/easy-white-v4/. I hate bad design and don't have the time or inclination to create a customer theme. I figured there are a lot of tech-savvy people buzzing about Steorn's claims, so I should have a clean design.

No conspiracy theory going on with Steornwatch.com . sorry to disappoint.

If anyone is interested in contributing to Steornwatch.com, I can be contacted via the site.

I hope somebody saved the contents of the open directorys, as they are all closed now. If so, could somebody post them?

If this is an ARG I think we can now say steornwatch isn't a part of it.

well, yup, I registered as a scientist... couldn't think of a spoof institution, so just put MIT, and a 'BS' in astrophysics Razz
we'll see what comes with this 'offline verification' system.
I'm guessing quite a number of those almost 3000 registrations are fake or dummy users too...

I grabbed a quick backup copy of the "coverage.html" file, as they hadn't deleted it out of some of the other language folders..

Posted up the backup here: http://www.ideltech.com/steorn/coverage.html

And all of the links work exactly as they do on the actual site. (as in, they're all broken) This page is clearly from an earlier or development version of the site.

Me too, but for some reason ctrl+c and ctrl+v didn't even occur to me Embarassed

A little more info that is most likely irrelavant. The only reason I post this (after serious deliberation) is to assist in the determination of whether they are a legit company or not. Some of the info points to a haphazard setup. The spoilered info is regarding site/domain/server/reverse IP look-up info:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
steorn.com and steorn.org are co-hosted in North America on a server with many other domains, while steorn.net appears to be on a dedicated server in the UK.
mail.steorn.net resides on the same server as the web server (80.169.139.206). I expect companies/organizations to have separate servers for their web and mail hosting, but many do share depending on size and resources.
steorn.net and steorn.org were registered within a day of each other in Jul-2004 and both expire in Jul-2007
steorn.com was registered in May-2000 and expires in May-2013.
All three domain entries show changes on Aug. 18 and since.

[SPEC]This is an elaborate set-up. It utilizes a previously existing company and people, but I don't know for what purpose[/SPEC]

[CROSSED FINGERS]Please be a cool ARG, please be a cool ARG[/CROSSED FINGERS]

I registerd to be a tester too.

I spent the time and read the patent submission. It is plausible enough to have been an actual patent submission in that it describes a device that could concievably have some utility and looks good enough not to be rejected out of hand by the patent office.

but it is also sketchy enough to be a spoof.
its only 14 pages -- short for any serious patent

does not make any claim for energy creation

clearly could not lead in any way to energy creation (for reasons that are pretty obvious)

lists only one reference for prior art (way too brief)

My feeling is that its a 'real' patent application made by someone who is familiar enough with patent apps to not find it too big a deal to put it together, then co-opted for this arg/spoof site.

It may be nothing but it tweaked my interest...

http://archives.cnn.com/2002/TECH/science/01/23/ireland.invention/

Two reasons: it's about a free energy system and the story emanated from Dublin, Ireland.

It seemed to be a fairly "big" story in certain circles a few years ago.

Fascinating. I would point out that I was told just today that posting (beyond the initial trailhead) at unfiction for a game you're actually working on is against the Terms of Service. So one would have to conclude one of three things:

1. Neither are related to an ARG
2. stoernwatch is legit, even if stoerm isn't.
3. stoernwatch is laying the trailhead, or is violating the TOS.

Personally, I currently opt for the third, but I'll keep an open mind so far (and ultimately, I'm interested enough to watch, anyway).

That just doesn't make any sense. You can say it's your opinion that Steornwatch is a different entity, but clearly they have a deep connection - one exists solely to watch the other. If Steorn IS an ARG, Steornwatch (with the proxied domain) may be its ilovebees.blogspot.com, if you will.

If it isn't, well ... frankly, it seems just as sketchy to me as Steorn. Too many people hiding who they really are makes me reluctant to believe any of them are legit.
