I'm really liking the 2ch idea...they get millions of hits. AFAIK non-japanese posts are not welcomed too openly there. So tc, if you're still around, would you mind posting our photo, link and a short summary? Would probably help if we had the japanese translation of the website already set up, but I guess ixalon is still busy winning that trip... Smile

Thanks!

Yes, I am still around. As soon as there is a post from ixalon on what to translate, I will do that.

Also, I remembered that there is a weekly Japanese classified paper published in UK. This paper is distribued all households/companies in UK who subscribe to Japanese newspaper (Asahi Shinbun). I obtained a copy from my work today and I submitted an add asking for Satoshi with the web address billion2one.org.

The add will be on the paper for 2 issues (2 weeks) from next week and on their website for nearly 3 weeks from tomorrow.

I will let you all know if there is any reply from anybody. Or, we may get a reply to ixalon's wonderful website.

Just a thought

after looking at the higher res image, i have to say the only thing that would distinguish this man from others are his birthmarks (previously mentioned to look like a cube)

Birthmarks are usually used to identify people. But without better pictures of possible matches we dont get much use.

This being said, I would think of this like a CSI... we have one piece of evidence, the photo. Weve done a lot of the hard work of finding out where this guy WAS. ... Who knows when this photo was taken, But its likely there are clues in the photo that can help us determine this time frame.

I would say the next step in the investigative process is to go to Kaysersberg, and investigate. Find town records, interview people. Likely if he was there for any period of time somone would have seen him, he may have stayed at a local inn. He may have been enrolled in one of the schools mentioned.

People keep saying this is not an old photo. Well its color, and thats all we know. Some say digital image, but there are no specific clues to be sure of that. For all we know, this guy may be 90+ years old now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_photography

I would say he is taking his own pic, but again we cant be sure. Hand held color cameras are much more recent, but again he could still be 50+ years old today.

Really the one thing (barring any extreme facial scarring) that distinguishes him from other people with simmilar facial structure are his birthmarks. I believe these marks are the key to nailing down this guy specifically. These marks will not change as he ages, he may get more wrinkles, or a beard(which would suck, for comparison sake), He might have longer hair, He may be fatter. Many things may have changed about this guys looks. But his birthmarks will likely still be there and in that exact pattern.

Well after reading the posts this is all i have to say. Hope it helps.

Well, rather than waiting, I decided to do the translation from what I can see on billion2one.org.

ixalon,
I did this in Word. I don't know if you can see Japanese fonts on your computer, but if you have a problem, please let me know.

Any of you who understand Japanese will notice that I have changed some of the wording so that it is more suitable for Japanese readers. Hope you don't mind.

I had to look, even though I know no Japanese, and I had one thought -
If there are still requests for the location on the website, shouldn't it be modified to say that we think it's Kaysersberg, so people don't reproduce all that work?

Hey tc...thanks for your effort! If you need any more orientation for what needs to be translated, have you already checked out this ZIP-file?

I guess there's been a few updates to the site which are not included in the ZIP, but pretty much all of it was discussed on this thread. And anyway, I guess as long as your translation roughly corresponds to the english original site, changes in expression and wording are encouraged to adapt to the target language (i.e. culture). So, please feel free to add/modify whatever you think is appropriate (Just let ixalon know what he put's up on his site... Smile ). And as soon as any of that goes up (via ixalon), would you mind still doing the 2ch (and maybe 4ch) posting, too? I guess it can't hurt...we really need more people to check out the site/photo.

I tried to do it in the past, but I didn't have a clue how to use the zip file. Sorry for being a fossil.......

I am sorry again to sound silly, but I don't know what 2ch or 4ch means.............

Oh, I'm sorry for not being clearer then.

It can be found here.

And a ZIP-file is a file archive which can contain (and reduce in size) several other files (in our case, the .htm-files which make up the webpage). That you know, right? You need to extract the .htm files from the ZIP-archive. But if you PM me your eMail adress, I'll save you the hassle and send you the extracted files.

It isn't my page, I just searched for any Satoshis in France. I don't have a Myspace, so I can't message him to inquire--it doesn't appear to be a very active profile though.

It's very curious that the page's "Last Login: 3/9/2006"
That's March 9th, right? Way before the release of wave 4. And, he's in *France*! Coincidence?

Could the original intention of the 'Scarlett's Code' page have been a clue to investigate MySpace for further info? This wouldn't be the first time a character has clued us to an answer.

If I wasn't such a bad writer (can't keep focused), I'd email him! Shocked

and asking if that is him...

Worth a shot.

Hey guys - just returned from my jaunt in Paris (I didn't win, so no round-the-world cube hunt for me!)

Thanks for the translation tc Smile I'll get it up on the site this evening and PM you with any bits missing.

For an off-topic puzzle in the mean time, try this one from the weekend...
If LEONARDO+MONA=5555 then what does PZLEA equal?

Someone from the Fortean Times forum has posted this:
Quote:
Hey... I think I actually know this guy.

Seriously. He looks JUST like one of my husband`s co-workers - in Japan. I`ll have to ask him if he`s ever been to France. He got married a few years back, so it could have been a honeymoon shot. Or, they could just look really similar.

Promising, but considering how many people have found a Satoshi and said it looked like our chap, I'm not going to get too excited just yet. But here's hoping Very Happy

That does sound exciting, but I've just thought this could become like "I've just seen Elvis in Tesco's, Jesus on my ultrasound, allah in a tomato, Lord Lucan down the swimming pool". Is there a name for that? There should be one. I'd invent one, only neologisms can get you in trouble in psychiatry. We're unpopular enough with Tom Cruise already.

FWIW,
Quote:
Pokémon is an odyssey of a young boy named Ash (Satoshi in the Japanese version), who embarks on an adventure to collect 151 different monsters in order to become a "Pokémon master." Various hardships await Ash on his way, but by overcoming these difficulties, he and the Pokémon crew can advance to maturity.

Spot any gaming similarities?

I found this at Wiki

Quote:
Satsuma-Sendai (薩摩川内市 Satsumasendai-shi) is a city located in Kagoshima, Japan.

In 2005, the city had an estimated population of 103,478 in a total area of 683.50 km˛, giving a population density of 151.4 persons per km˛.

The city was established on October 12, 2004 when the city of Sendai, the towns of Hiwaki, Iriki, Kedoin and Togo, and Koshikijima Islands (which consisted of Sato, Kamikoshiki, Shimokoshiki, and Kashima villages) merged to form one new city.

The city has regular Shinkansen services to Kagoshima City and Yatsushiro, Kumamoto.

I've tried
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
kagoshima, kagoshima city, & koshikijima islands
