[update] Aglaura Council Mtg Phone Recording

Quote:
August 23, 2006:

Last Week's Council Meeting Audio Available

Last week's Aglaura Borough Council meeting once again included a call-in portion, allowing non-residents to phone in and participate. Mayor Pat Dobbs was unable to attend the meeting due to a sudden case of the flu and has since fully recovered. He made this statement earlier today, "I would like to thank all of the caring Aglaura residents who sent well wishes and chicken soup to my home while I was feeling a bit under the weather. Nothing makes a man heal up better than good food!" The recording of the council meeting can be found here.

City Councilwoman Resigns

Aglaura City Councilwoman Diana Sprague announced this week that she will be resigning from the city government. Ms. Sprague has served on the council for the last few years, as did her former husband, Dale Sprague, who also resigned his position earlier this summer. Ms. Sprague will be taking a position with Marzent as their Community Liason Manager. Mayor Dobbs, in a statement earlier today, said, "We are thankful to Diana for her years of faithful service, and wish her all the luck in the world in her new position."

There is no word yet on how or when the vacant City Council seats will be filled.

Local Teenager Died from Misadventure

Police chief Dawn Prufrock released a statement regarding the case of Brad Wheeler, a local teenager who was originally thought to be missing, but who was found dead in the Pine Barrens last week. Autopsy results showed that the boy died in a fall, rather than from an attack, and his neck was twisted due to the unusual angle at which he fell. Therefore, the police department is officially labeling the death accidental.

Previously-announced person of interest, Keith McCoy, has been cleared of any suspicion in the case. McCoy was also under investigation for the theft of the masks from the Aglaura Library a few months ago, but head librarian Sarah Wyatt has stated that she will not be pressing any charges in that case, so the investigation into that matter is closed, also.

Cracks in Road Called "Hazardous"

Many Aglaura citizens have noticed the cracks found in the main highway through town. Mayor Dobbs called them "hazardous" and mentioned that last week he lost a hubcap after he hit a crack on his way into work. The road conditions may actually speed the consideration of the Marzent Redevelopment Plan proposal, which entailed upgrading the highway. Local engineers have attributed the cracks in the highway surface either to this summer's excessive heat or to underground sinkholes.

Wow, things are working out well for our mysterious foes - no charges pressed for the theft of the masks and no investigation into Brad's murder.

I've seen references to Dale not being a councilman any more, but this is the first direct statement of such I've noticed. Did I miss a previous announcement or did this sort of happen behind the scenes? Maybe Dale can find an old by-law that allows call-in participants to run for city council! Wink

See the Aglaura News Archive for July 26th....

Thanks, kimer. That was when I was out of it for a while; I must have skimmed that. Although, "leave of absence" to me implies a return (although I realize it says Dale did not indicate if he would be returning).

My money's on sinkholes. Or maybe some underground tunneling?

Maybe they are doing too much work in the caves/tunnels. Also, with the problems in the road it's going to make it easier for Marzent to get their project going - which is what they want.

Or, given the spec on these boards, it could be both - tunnels that are generating a lot of heat.
