The source code text is different today! Instead of garbled, its

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.landalan.org/tests/time.php. According to that, there's 6 days left til something or other happens.

which would be a countdown to Thursday, August 31st, 8pm EST

and re: http://www.landalan.org/tests/garbled.php
given it's a PHP, and the text now says "no input file specified", I would assume that a form needs to be submitted to that url. The contents of the form are entirely unknown. if it's post data, we'd need variable names and values.

'No input file' makes me think it's looking for a form-uploaded file and a filename. But with no variable names, good luck getting it right.

Intriguing...

The countdown makes me think two things: 1) either this last puzzle has been solved, and we now wait until 8pm next Thursday, or 2) we need to solve this puzzle before the countdown ends. Probably more likely though would be 3) this last puzzle hasn't been solved, and we have a countdown running in parallel, not related, or 4) garbled.php isn't what it should be, and we theoretically can ignore it and watch for the countdown completion.

Personally, I'm hoping 1, but guessing 3, small chance it's 2, and most likely not 4 Smile

oxdeltaxo: I wouldn't just wait if I was you.
I'm going to be checking beefstew every day at lunch to
see if new messages appear.

[spec] It could be a multi-tier puzzle and we need to collect the bits and
pieces over the next 6 days before we can solve it.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I noticed the time page is down now too. So, we should keep checking and update each other here when new stuff becomes available.

My 2 bits... the 'no input file specified' I think is a PHP compiler result when the specified file is not found. Try it for random PHP filenames, and you'll get the same result. I believe it also only works in Firefox and not IE (haven't checked other browsers.) So I think the message is not a clue. I thought the same thing as you at first Bruce.... was racking my brain to think of post data for the form. Not a bad puzzle idea though.... Wink

I think we're looking at some form of periodic puzzle where the data is up between 6-6:30 GMT every day. We're waiting the 7 minutes here till it's back up to confirm.

Hopefully it'll let us know very soon..

So it's like a time sensitive puzzle. But is it adjusted to our system clocks or from the server clock? If it's running on our system clocks then we can easily fool it by changing the time to 6pm whenever we want to check something. But if it's running on the server clock we'd need to account for time zone offset.....just a thought.

The first time sensitive clue was based on GMT, but we had no update today, so no idea. It's 8 after now, and no changes on beefstew.html, garbled.php or time.php

I'm thinking there's still a puzzle to solve somewhere.. it said 'head to garbled php for your last test' right?

Just have to figure it out....

and maybe we have 6 days....

You're right about IE muddy, getting 404 on both pages, fire fox returns the no input file specified page.

I'm using IE and I get no input file specified.

I think the 404 parser checks for PHP extensions, and handles the filename independently to display custom content... so putting a filename that isn't recognized return a different error here than a 404.
Making me think that garbled.php and time.php don't actually exist, but that at a certain point in the day, if we call a certain filename, it'll display the right content.

time.php did exist though, albeit for a short period. Showed a series of 10 countdown timers, all displaying the same time.
