[MEET] Technology Mask and Rune Stones

Just a quick note with more to follow. CK & I got the mask & all nine runestones. Keith left one with the lady who had the mask and left us some clues to hunt out the other 8.

Here are pics of the mask and stones, as well as the clues - I'll scan them after I get back home & replace the files, but I wanted to share asap.

We made it to the Market & to the appropriate booth. Hailey was working the booth and she was a little reluctant to give away Technology - she had it displayed on her table with a not for sale sign under it. CK got the mask, and I received a purple box with one runestone and an envelope in it.

It is REALLY hot in Austin, TX & the sun was cooking me, so I walked over to the door of a store to read the letter in the envelope. Tee hee, first think Keith writes is "Get to the back of the market. You don't want to look like a clueless tourist, all right?" Well, there was more shade in the back of the market anyway, so we all headed there.

Along with the letter (see pic, I'll scan this too) we had slips of paper with the clues. We were instructed to strike up conversations with the people in the market & use the words that the clues gave us in the conversation. If the person was one of the ones holding the other stones, we would get them.

Well CK got 3, my son got 3, and I scored 2(plus the one that I originally got in the box). CK is keeping his 3 & I have the other 6. It took us about an hour and a half to retrieve all the stones, but we did it!

It was a lot of fun!

Great job, CK, RedHatty and son! Very Happy
The stones and the mask of Technology look amazing.
And thanks for posting about it as quickly as you did, RedHatty.

Yeah. Good job guys. You went WAAAYYY above and beyond on this one.

So now all of our spec that someone's out to get the stuff Keith has/d is out the window?

Putting the mask on display in such a public venue and handing out the stones to so many people seems to be saying the opposite of, "Someone's intent to get their hands on this stuff at all costs.".

Hmmm, they look familiar. Smile

Love the Technology mask - very creative.

Sounds like the hunt for the runestones was a great mini-quest for you all. Thank you for sharing.

I can't speak for CK, but I had a blast!

On the drive from the airport (to hotel) to market, CK was telling my son about gunzonline. Give it a little more time & my kid will end up being a player or maybe a PM Smile

LOL - on my way back home, I stopped at my BF's house. We were talking today & he was already aware of my GPS stuff, now he got a quick explaination of ARGs & then told him about the Marlboro challenge I'm doing too - He looked at me & says, "You really are a geek aren't you?"

LOL - I was so complimented - really ROFL

Anyway - I just got back & trasferred my pics into this computer, but I am wore out from all the driving & heat, so I promise, by tomorrow, I'll replace the pics wih correct orientation & a little cropping to make them "cleaner"

edited to correct minor typo

Just a little bump to let everyone know that I updated the pics. Still waiting on the video file to make it to me (my trip driver's camera, so he has to send it to me).

Bleh, sorry you all, been putting this off. Not on purpose, but because I gots the swag flu.

So a quick synopsis in order here, hopefully to break the curse of those diagnosed with SF of not corrosponding with you all.

When I got off the plane at Austin, RH and co were there to greet me.
We went to my hotel so I could drop off my bags and get on at least a fresh shirt and use the deodorant the airport security failed to confiscate from me. (I'd like to say "Gotsta love bein ex-military", but I doubt they even knew that)
From there we went to the meeting point. The plan was to have RH's company film from afar while she and myself went and made contact.
Unfortunately, it seems those two had never heard of stealth or tact. Razz
Right as we went up there to get the mask (and clues) the younger one (Sorry, I forgot his name) came up to us and said "We've been getting great shots" Or something to that effect.
So we get the mask, the clues and the first rune, and now we read the letter, bunched up, right in the middle of the market. Are we really that predictable? Keith put in, right at the top of the letter "Get to the back of the market, you don't want to look like a tourist" or something to that effect.
So, we go back, read the letter, realize we need to talk to the people at the booths, say key phrases (I'm assuming in such a way as to not be conspicuous. You can't go up to someone, point at them and say "Katamari Damacy!" right off. You'll look like a nut)
So Red, myself and her three amigos go and talk to people.
I get the first hidden rune, probably because I offended the guy or something.
He was at a booth with what looked to me as fences on their sides, painted yellow with newspaper clippings mixes in and a few othere things that are hard to explain.
As soon as I say the phrase, "I don't mean to offend or anything, but what exactly is it?" The guy looks at me and says, "It's art, and I've got something for you." He reaches into his pocket, pulls out the rune and hands it to me, "When ever you want to see art, just pull this out and squeeze it real tight" (again, something to that effect) He was real friendly about all of this though. n.n
I go about talking to other people, and the others have luck eventually. Maybe... 20 minutes? So we now have 4 runes total. Another 20 minutes and we have 6. Again from RH's party.
I eventually start talking to this nice lady who at first glance reminded me of my highschool German teacher, a free spirited hippie lady who loved her some crystals.
I get to talking when I ask if she takes any requests. I ask her if she'd be able to do something for a friend's daughter who LOVES this game where a little green dude rolls everything up into a ball. It's called Katamari Damacy?
At that point she smiles and says she has something for me. She digs out two runes and hands them to me. I thank her and buy a necklace.
During this time, the younger one of RH's party gets the last rune from another lady I was chatting up earlier (back when I thought a clue was Social Marxism, stupid me). He used "Social Darwinism" to do it.
We talk with the lady who had the mask originally and she reccomends a place to me called "Alamo Draft House" RH had to leave to get back home then, but I planned on going out there.
As we left to get back to the truck I hear the lady I got the two runes from comment to the lady we got the mask from, say: "I can't believe they actually knew what Katamari Damacy was".
All in all it took us an hour and a half total.
We drove back to my hotel, took various pictures of the runes and the mask, then RH and Co. had to go.
I left my little message (above) and went to take a shower when I was hit like a tidal wave with a weakness that pretty much shook me to the core.
I HAD THE SWAG FLU! (It was probably the heat and the fact I had a slight cold at the time that I was mistaking for allergies or something. Though I AM living in AZ, which has comparable if not worse heat than TX)

So I pretty much crashed for the night, might have missed a meeting at ADH. The next day I got on the plane and left, still feeling ill.
Aaaaaaand, been feeling that way almost non-stop, gradually getting better the last few days.

Still feel like death warmed over, though. :insertjollyrogerhere:

Ck, I feel so bad that you took ill! great recap though, my incompetent children & driver & all - there is a bit of video, but we are waiting on my driver to receive replacement software to upload it (CK had it right with the incompetence!) - seems he has lost his disk along the way.

I wonder what you might have found out if you had made it to the Alamo place, we'll never know, oh well....

CK left out that my driver (who is so muggle it's not funny) was completely lost with trying to converse with people & mention the key phrases - so much so that he vanished on us a couple of times LOL.

My son (Chris - daughter was KK) did great though, he scored 3 of my 6 stones all on his own!

I think his conversations with CK helped him get into it, thanks CK!

I hope you get well soon!
