illegitimate access

Any idea what this is referring to? Is it us trying to get inot the system? Or are they telling us that there are more directorys or sub-directorys (as I think we all assume there are) ? Or is it something else - is this to tell us that CT has been on the Academy's system frequently?

--
Another question: is CT responsible for the "hidden" notes and things on the cards - like the information about the theft hidden on the Invitation card ?

What about the password from Cold Fusion?

It is quite possible that there is more to be found. It might also refer to the http://perplexcity.com/tmp/ we found during Project Syzygy. While it is empty today, a long time ago it had some strange files. Here is a mirror of the old files. So maybe that's what Garnet is referring to (although it's on the PXC site, not the Academy site, but maybe the data link intermingled the signals or maybe the data migrated, or maybe he's talking about something completely different.)

Anyway, it's probably a good idea to look for other folders on the server.

I can't find it again, either. I don't trust that 'flicker' idea of yours, though. The system shouldn't be behaving like this.

I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Gah, I just went on a Wave 4 solve blitz like three days before the new e-mails. I could've probably found even more had I not been in such a rush when they showed in the mail.

Curse my enthusiasm! Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, I'd agree with New York; the archetype is strong, and it's what first came to mind to me, and I live onyl an hour or so off. Imagine what kind of solid founded pre-supposed image the cabs and grates must be for people from an entirely different reality.

The question is: is it our job to find this person now? They seem more than a little remorseful, so I would take the guess that this is another attempt to reach us in undoing the damage. Of course, the cards and the plea could be a long-running trap, but I doubt someone would see so far in advance as to pull that.

Question is, who contacts who first, and under what circumstances, under what pretenses, with what information, with what in mind?

I'm not too flustered, though. If we can make progress find a single person on Earth with just a single picture, I think we'll manage in due time.

EDIT: Just thought of something else. How exactly is this person acclimating? Upon arrival, at least, he had no money, clothes from "non-existant" labels, possibly having far advanced technology, etc. Obviously, the Earth 3P operatives (O#) could have been on the receiving end to welcome them (improving New York as the most logical choice, having O5), but all the same, it does in fact make testament to culture shock and initial disarray of incredible orders. Also, what about health condition? Did the trip do anything to them? Lots of blank spots in it; I guess we'll see what happens.

I thought "flicker" might be referring to flickr and got excited when one of the most recent finds for perplex city was gotham city. However that disappeared when I tried perplexcity, and didn't seem to have anything to do with us.

Try other book titles from the Library of Babel. I don't have time now but I thought I saw a hint towards that.

has access to Mind Candy's computers (ZOMG! MOLE!)

This sounds possible to me, they have been sneaking messages onto the cards (presuming all the messages are the same person), and this would explain how they got the messages onto the cards.

It could also explain how the Mind Candy organization does not know the location of the cube, as one of them could have gone out and hid it (or lost it, I suppose) as the Perplex City mole.

So here's the plan:
1) One of us needs to get hired by Mind Candy as the new Java Developer or Head of Marketing (preferably the latter, as it sounds more important).
2) Get cozy with your coworkers.
3) Figure out who has a secret.
4) Figure out the secret.
5) Call me! Very Happy

Okay, I've wasted enough forum space for today, now back to the good ideas. Confused

I was also thinking Flickr, and tried:

http://flickr.com/photos/babel
http://flickr.com/photos/combedthunderclap
http://flickr.com/photos/libraryofbabel
http://flickr.com/photos/meaninglesswords
http://flickr.com/photos/thunderclap
http://flickr.com/photos/towerofbabel
http://flickr.com/photos/combed

and even...

http://flickr.com/photos/garnet
http://flickr.com/photos/sente

Tried a few searches too, all with no meaningful results, needless to say....

The only other book title I've seen from The Library of Babel is The Plaster Cramp. And on flickr, that only really turns up this. Whether or not that's useful, I leave up to others.

Flicker idea could be in referance to the fact that it's up there one moment, and gone the next. It's flickering in and out of the system if you will.

EDIT: I found This page while looking though the source. looks to be nothing more than technical jibberish about the XHTML though.
