Card Catalog Search (and API)

For those that are interested, there is now a new search feature at the Card Catalog (or Card Catalogue for you Brits.) Take notice of the new search box in the left-hand column. It will allow you to search for cards by number or text. It's not quite a full text search, but it does use the card's title and transcript (not scribe, architect, artist, back, etc.) It's all AJAX-ified, so a modern browser with JavaScript is required.

For any programmers that want to take advantage of searches, you have two options. If you want to direct someone to a blind search, there is a script on the server called go.php. It takes a parameter that is either a number (to go to card by number) or text (to search for a card title match.) It doesn't give you a lot of choice and will immediately redirect you to the first search result. This is useful for quick searches (such as the bookmarklet you can put in your toolbar.) URL examples are:
http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/go.php?item=13 <== goes to card #013
http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/go.php?item=ninja <== goes to Pirates vs. Ninjas

If you want to take advantage of a more complex search (which includes full-text searching), a little parsing will be required. In this case, the URL is the same, but with "go" replaced by "search." The results come back, one per line in the form "season|number|title" (those are pipe characters separating each field.) Any line with less than 2 pipes can be ignored (e.g. the <root>...</root> XML wrapper.) With that, you can form the proper URL with season and three digit card numbers (e.g. http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/1/013/) Some examples are as follows (you may have to view the source of these, as the line endings are not entirely apparent in a browser window):
http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/search.php?item=13 <== returns not just card #013, but any card that has "13" in its transcript
http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com/go.php?item=ninja <== Pirates vs. Ninjas and Dundley's Medallion

So there you go. Do something cool with it. Or not. I'd like to hear about anything fun people create around this.
