Oh, we ran into an example of the local wildlife that can be found out in the swamps.

Well, I'm off to the airport to pick up ZMaiden - just checked her flight information, and it's scheduled to arrive on-time. Got my silly little sign that says "ZMaiden" on it, and I know I'm looking for a redheaded female wearing a purple hat...

Wish me luck! Very Happy

Daily update from the konas:

Universal Islands of Adventure was our first stop (after we almost broke the ticket machine). If you visit here, the Hulk Rollercoaster and the Spiderman ride are must sees (but don't do them shortly after breakfast).
Younger kids have to head in the opposite direction for all the Dr Seuss stuff. We made a circle around the place, hitting all the moving rides (getting quite soaked at the Dudley DoRight Rip-Saw Falls - you can't escape it, even with a poncho, so don't even bother trying - just enjoy the mid-day shower) and then cooling off inside a nice sandwich shop.

Since konashark is sometimes prone to motion sickness, rather than retrying the Dueling Dragons twin rollercoasters (the mouse did both Fire and Ice in less than 10 minutes - the lines were that short with Express Pass), we ambled over to the other side of the Universal Globe into..

Universal Studios, just to rest our tired dogs at some sit-down attractions. We rocked with Beetlejuice (mercifully shaded and short) then I dragged konashark into Earthquake (learn how they do some special effects, then experience the part of the studio tour from the Hollywood Universal Studios that takes you into the San Francisco BART station and that wonderful ground shaking, tram rocking, asphalt falling thrill, about 1.5 minutes long). We crossed the town over to the Horror Makeup show (very funny, by the way) and finished the day with Terminator 3-D (a great show even if they finally did the other Terminator 3 movie earlier this year).

Sorry, no pictures today (good thing, since the camera would have gotten soaked at the water rides). But I ended up kicking this small roll of money as we got out of Terminator 3-D and there was no way to identify the real owner of the $35, so I guess lunch and dessert was paid for today.

We're exhausted. Florida humidity is murder on us desert dwellers. So we took our showers, enjoyed our takehome desserts from the park (yum, cheesecake and chocolate death) and are watching Matrix and Matrix:Reloaded in bed tonight (getting ready to go see the third installment later this week).

Until tomorrow.

PS - where are we suppose to be meeting at 4p????

After a long search and a couple of...er...'incidents', only one of which involved the police, we managed to track down Ozy, pull him off the table, and stuff him into the imbritel.

According to imbri, we'll alll be meeting outside the movie theatre in City Walk at 4 PM.

A group of us (Dia, Dave, Magesteff, ZMaiden, Sunny, myself and the Addlepated's) will be doing Universal on Saturday. Contact Dia, Addie, or myself for information. We'll all be coordinating our movements to achieve maximum enjoyment in the minimum amount of time.

Hi folks,

It seems like I want to go to EPCOT tomorrow with y'all, but no one around here wants to go. So what's the plan, who's going and who's driving?

Will I be driving myself? Where will we all be meeting? Personally, I'd like to be there when, or soon after, the gates open. I'm like that Wink

Close Encounters of the Scooby Kind

Well, I promised Scrappy I'd put this up last night, but the hotel's network was acting weird, and I had to wait until morning

Because of the Beer Fest at City Walk, it was impossible to get a table at any of the City Walk restaurants. So, we all decided to take the water taxi over to the Hard Rock Hotel (home to Dia, Dave, and the Addlepated's) for dinner.

Well, as luck would have it, we were able to arrange a meeting between ScoobyDoo and our very own ScrappyDoo.

Dia also got into the act, introducing Scooby to her dog, Honey

Both meetings went well, as the attached photos will confirm.

More pictures to follow.

Huge props to Jamesi for the chocolate! Thanks so much. Those are delish. Very Happy

I wasn't there for the solving of the golden ticket, but I just got the url - looks like some old arg references. Anyone have any clue-by-fours for argnewbies?

ETA: I need to splain about all those pics of Kona and me. Saturday afternoon we were all given pieces of paper upon which were written some clues. We were supposed to figure out what the clues meant, which would tell us where to meet everyone.

1. Montalban's Tattoo holds the answer.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Jimmy Buffett's plane is set up next to an outside bar. Look boss, de plane! De plane! P for plane.

2. He sits anywhere he wants to.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We thought the old joke was about an Elephant, so chose him. In context the E for elephant didn't make sense. We cheesed it to A for African Elephant, but the real answer was Ape.

3. Ambassador Audi BMW Chrysler Daewoo Ferrari Ford GM Hyundai Jaguar Jeep Kia Lamborghini Land Rover Lexus Mazda Mercedes Mitsubishi Nissan Peupeot Porshe Saab Saturn Subaru Toyota Volkswagon Volvo
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A great big old WTF on this one. Nothing about Nascar seemed to fit - can you imagine a Kia in Nascar? Neither could we. Turned out there were 27 words, so we were to look for the car with the number 27 on it. The sponsor (blanked on the name) started with a T.

4. Dunked in 34 lakes.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Isn't the paint under the hoop on a basketball court sometimes called a lake? Who was a famous NBA player #34? Shaquille O'Neal.

5. You'll find everything you need between a rock and a hard place to take you away.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Rock and a hard place had to mean the Hard Rock Cafe. "Take you away" is a lyric from Magical Mystery Tour, and there happened to be such a Bus sitting in front of the Hard Rock.

6. Dread the Light of the Trinity
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Obviously at first we thought of something Matrix-related. Then we noticed that "Light" was capitalized and probably had a more religious meaning. "Dread" made me think of Bob Marley's restaurant, and sure enough there's a statue of Bob out in front that mentions the Light of the Trinity. So many possibilities for a solve - Bob? Marley? Reggae? Rasta seemed to go well with the religious references.

7. Like guiding ships in the night, this will help you find your way there.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We pounced on this in true frenzied gamer mode, completely dissecting it. Silly us. It was just the searchlight at the entrance to Islands of Adventure. Sometimes a searchlight is just a searchlight. Dammit.

8. The essence of knowledge is, having it, to apply it; not having it, to confess your ignorance.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The word "essence" is highlighted. Who uses that word more than any given person on the face of the earth (except for possibly the sex scenes in the Clan of the Cave Bear books)? Emeril. He has a restaurant on Citywalk.

9. Never send a human to do a machine's job.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We got the reference quickly, but there were too many possibilities as to which was the significant letter. Agent Smith? Morpheus? Matrix? Trinity? Tank? Neo won out by process of elimination.

10 Catch a wave, take a photo.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This was a gimmie - about 10 feet away from where the clues were passed out was a photo-op place where you could ride on a pretend Surfboard and convince your friends back home you're one of da kine.

And our team - Konamouse and Addlepated, as well as their good sport husbands, got to the proper place first and had a drink with the PMs. Wink
