Has anyone found a news announcement about Steorn earlier than the one by Team Xbox?

That one was posted at 8:27am on August 18th. I haven't found anything earlier, although admittedly I may be confused about how the time stamping works across time zones. If this is NOT an ARG, where did TeamXbox get their information?

The print ad appeared in the Economist, which comes out on Thursdays, iirc. That would mean that it appeared the day before the TeamXbox article. I'd bet (don't remember off hand) that they sent out a press release in conjunction with the ad which would be how Reuters & asst wire services found it (unless they just happen to keep up with strange Economist ads). TeamXbox could have found it through the Economist or one of the wire services.

Does anyone know the specific Irish patent laws? In the US you have a full year after a public demonstration/sale before you even have to apply for a patent.

I believe US patent are different from patents in the rest of the world. IIRC (and IANAL), everywhere except the US if you disclose before you file the patent, either someone else can patent it first or you can't patent it yourself. So that might be why Steorn is not telling anyone anything about their infinite energy thing.

magic machine revealed

(myFirstPost)
Hi everyone, very interesting thread.

(humour follows)

I have a movie of the Steorn machine. Smuggled from of their secret underground lair.

Click to see the movie of the machine actually work! http://www.thedatabank.ca/vrtaxi/steorn_machine.mpg

IMHO - Steorn machine is less a hoax than a publicity stunt for the soon to be announced anti-fraud company "Steorn.com - Don't get fooled again... P.S. you can trust us now... really... honest"

Thank you for your time.

Is This Related?

I'm not sure which section to post this in - this one or the meta thread but this was released this morning and sounded similar to what you've been discussing as far as whether it's real or an ARG. I haven't followed this too closely so if it's unrelated then sorry about that.

Yahoo news had this link:

Hydrogen power system unveiled in Maine
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060828/ap_on_sc/hydrogen_project

The system unveiled at Chewonki uses renewable power — from solar panels atop the center and purchases of "green" electricity — to produce hydrogen from water through a process known as electrolysis. New technology that produces the gas at high pressure eliminates the need for a costly compressor.

Etc.

thought I'd pass it along and see what happens with it.

PS........more related...

I did give in and read thru some of the links from the Jasker Power System search and found this one interesting...or amusing.
Quote:

January 25
A prototype of the Jasker Power System, a device whose makers say it can provide free energy, is lit up by bulbs running from its own power source at a secret Irish location, January 11, 2002. Its inventor, a 58 year-old electrical engineer who intends to remain anonymous, has spent 23 years perfecting the machine and says it is capable of nothing less than replenishing its own energy source.

Photo...of the prototype Jasker Power System....and a chair.

Link: http://www.jaradite.com/thoughts_january2002.html

It's not a new idea, JPS, if you run thru the next several pages there are tons of links dating back to 2002, where the "unnamed" inventors are introducing it from its "secret location."

Not that you asked, but IMO, it doesn't seem like an ARG either way. I'm not convinced the watch site isn't part of it - I'm curious as to 1. why they're watching this company site one way or the other - what is their motive, interest, agenda, connection? Are they "free energy" buffs or what? and 2. How did the *spokesposter* end up HERE of all places to deny its connection?

If this is a legit company (scamming people notwithstanding) and given the nature of the product, somehow has managed to get a watchdog group on its tail, why in the world would either of them be worried about what a bunch of gamers thought - this place should be so utterly irrelevant to them as the tin foil hat people's forums are to legitimate (ahum) UFO groups actually wanting to find out whether this is a real issue or not. It's tantamount to a busy CEO working with scientists and investors catering to the opinions of role play gamers and bothering to clear it up for THEM, as opposed to the investors, scientists, and media - and ultimately the buying public - far more relevant, if ya ask me, which you didn't but I'm just saying.

The watchdog shows up here, even because of the ARGer posts on their forums or whatever - that one doesn't set well, in game or not.

So the company could be legit, and around awhile, but possibly it's the watchdog site that is more arg related? Maybe as I mentioned somewhere on here, forget, inserting a completely fictional story inside a very real scenario. Don't know that's the actual case but at this point, by pg 16, it doesn't appear that ANYBODY would spend 5 years creating an ARG, with that detailed a backstory, tons of news related items, people who exist as they are, file a patent, etc. It's way too much effort.

Outside that, if it turned out to be one, it'd be far more likely that it's movie based - maybe putting it out there before some future flick about to be promoted where this company gets a nod and has since established a base of visitors.

amm ok let's start...!

i dont know if this has to do something essential to the steorn case but when i run a general lookup on the steorn.com i have found that 33 different registered addresses (said to )belong to companies use this ip address hosted on the server NS1.LIQUIDWEB.COM domained by the Liquid Web Inc.

also i have found out that the technical contact of the steorn ltd is represented by a company dynaserve online..

there is no name mentioned. But an e-mail is said to be registered to the personal domain of dynaserve online.

dnsanminSPLATdynaserve.com
................................................................

i am really sorry that i do not analyse my speculations and foundings but i need to go before i can finish the reply post. please if there is something new to your research try to search it too.

the e-mail address is valid. and the dynaserve is registered. though i have not yet found to whom(it is registered)

By the way, liquidweb is a valid hosting company in Lansing, MI - I know, a friend of mind works there. He said he sits right next to the technical contact for that domain - not that that matters at all, I gather they don't know a thing about it.

Which sounds about right, really. *shrug*

Just FYI.

The CEO of Steorn was on FoxNews tonight and the video can be found in their video section (Video > Enless Energy Supply?)

Looks like it has been archived. It's now in the Tech section. (Video > Tech > Endless Energy Supply)

It is an interesting video, but does not give away any more information than they've previously released.

Something similar might have been mentioned before but I think what's most interesting about the interview is that it supports the view that this isn't an ARG. It now seems that Steorn thinks they really are onto something - they wouldn't want this much publicity unless they were serious.

You know, I was skeptical before, but now that they've been on FOX NEWS, I know they must be legit! Clearly FOX is known for Fair and Balanced reporting!

Oops, sorry, left my Sarcasm Hat on.

That said... yeah. I have to agree that this is unlikely to be an ARG. I'm still going to dissect everything that comes of it until something definitive is known. Very Happy

Points about the fox video:

First, it's a guy in a ruffled shirt in front of a monitor. Yeah, not very impressive appearance-wise. Not that all businesses are, mind you. I certainly would never look slick on TV - I prefer to be behind the camera, thank you.

Second, he seems to be pretty earnest. If he were, say, an actor, I'd be much impressed.

Third... american flag? That's not a graphic, is it? It looks like an actual american flag in the background (upper left corner). I only noticed it at the end, and this IS FOX, i wouldn't put it past them to put in a pointless american flag graphic.

Uhmmm... Did Sean travel to the US for the interview, but not so far as FOX Studios? Is he put up somewhere, which would explain the jury-rigged appearance of the location? ... or is this something suspicious? Hm.

And as an addendum - I would trust this company/product more if they spent any time at all addressing the idea that this may not break the laws of thermodynamics, it may simply be generating energy by grabbing it from some other source in a way we don't understand.

I take your point about Fox news. Even being English I've seen enough of it to realise that it's pretty sensationalistic. The Daily Show's main purpose seems to be to ridicule their reporting style. I'm more interested in the fact that Steorn would agree to go on there, not that Fox would give them the airtime.

One thing that keeps irking me is their insistence that this isn't world changing. SM seems so under whelmed and appeared genuinely surprised at the level of attention they've garnered yet they've still got a pdf (http://www.steorn.net/media/downloads/steorn_potential_uses.pdf) showing what the technology could be used for. Helpfully they point out that it could power a watch...or a super tanker. Pretty wide reaching.

That reminds me - I don't hear a damn thing about what kind of draw this thing can take. He says the magnetism is totally contained within the device - this device is clearly scalable, but what's the size-to-power ratio? What kind of amps/volts are we talking? I mean, a supertanker takes a f***load of energy to move - this is NOT the same as an energy-star appliance.
