#P01 and #257 for trade...

Right.. Mods feel free to delete this (I won't be any more offended than usual), and if people think it's crass, or out of the spirit of whatever it is they feel I should believe in, I may withdraw it.... BUT....

At the Wave 4 launch, due to the amazing generosity and kindness of MC, I got a kiss from the quizmistress. Oh, and I also got a bunch of other things, including a #P01 (comic-con) and #257 (Gold Cube) card..

I've been mulling what to do with these, without success.. Until I chatted with the nice folk in #syzygy and came up with this idea... I have to say, it's my personal favourite because not only does it seem fair and equitible, and it directly benefits me, not some far off charity. It should be noted that my motivation for this is only partially greed. It's also that I know people want this card, I don't really. It wouldn't be fair just to randomly give it away..

In red-paperclip-but-only-one-swap stylee, I'm going to swap them for something.. So, offers by PM please. Rules are..

1/ Either offer for one or both of the cards (you must state which you're doing in the PM). If your offer is more creative and less valuable, you might be better off only going for one of them, or for both, who knows. That is the mystery that is me.

2/ Items must be legally yours to offer, you'll get the card after I get the item (or proof it exists, or something, I'm not that bothered really)

3/ Be as creative as possible, the chioce may be made for comedy value rather than monetary value.

4/ In case there's a tie, please complete the following with your submission, "I think I deserve to receive [#P01 and #257, delete as applicable] because..." in no more than 1500 words, but hopefully a great deal less or I may get bored and not read them.

5/ I reserve all rights to pull this offer from underneath your feet, and nothing I say, do or imply was meant in the spirit you understood it.

6/ Please don't offer me cards.. Even if you offer me all 256, I'll still be missing #P01 and #257, I'm not into incomplete collections, they bore me. As do complete collections for that matter.

7/ Bear in mind, at the time of writing, #257 appears to be valued at $200 on EBay.. Don't let that put you off though, I'm a reasonable man, I'll accept priceless offers too.

8/ My decision is likely to be final, unless I change my mind.

9/ Good luck, umm closing date may as well be 31st of August 2006. Seems reasonably far away..

Dear Steve

I deserve to win both cards because I am the only representative from the Heard and McDonnell islands and it would be incalculably morale boosting to those isolated islands to see me at the top of the leader board.

In return I will

Send you a print of the digital picture I took illegally of a Gaugin painting while I was in the poorly guarded "Nazi loot" room of the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg. This was an opportunity which may no longer exist as the guards are now watching the exhibits rather than silting them away for personal profit. At the time I had thought I might claim that the painting had originally been in my family's possession. Naturally I wouldn't use the colour photograph as evidence but it could be used in a mock up black and white scene of a supposed former residence to make a false claim. I had thought of doing this myself, but I am willing to pass this opportunity on to you. You would of course say that you weren't interested in the monetary worth of the painting, that you just wanted to restore it to your family's possession, before selling it for millions to a gallery where it could be enjoyed by millions (just as now in the Hermitage).

Take a photograph of a sign proclaiming that SteveC is the most generous person in the Cosmos and plant this in the high Himalayan mountains when I visit Sikkim in October. Sikkim is a protected area so I would be taking considerable personal risk, to say nothing of the effort involved. I would send you photographic proof upon my return.

Provide unlimited psychotherapy by email. I would be willing to act out the therapist role of your choice, and be willing to change that at your whim, not something ordinarily available from therapy. I could be bored, angry, relaxed, disinterested, superior, patronising, effective, pleasant, projecting, you choose.

Send you the Ikea shirt stand which I won in an Abba costume competition in front of an audience of several hundred at Sheffield's City Hall. Although you could walk in any Ikea and buy one yourself, you would know that it had been won in a very special way.

Provide you with a Man Utd v Liverpool football programme from the 80's (provided I can find it) and the Royal Shakespeare Programme of your choice.

Write an article for the sentinel or whatever it's called, naming you in some heroic deed of which the outcome is terribly vital in the search for the cube.

Should you not wish to take advantage of all these offers, please limit your choice. Naturally I am bidding for both cards, which I think is the correct bargaining position.

Andrew

For both cards, I'll give you:

1) A Toy story Alien whose head lights up and speaks

2) My cat-Nice enough, doesn't complain much

3) A pint

4) A BIG Kiss

5) A signed photo of this bloke and his album

A quick clarification of three of the "rules".

1/ Don't offer cards, barring a collection of 258 unique PXC cards, nothing will really interest me I'm afraid. I gave up collecting things when my wife made me throw away my complete collection of Empire magazines (which was a fair point really, they took up a lot of space pointlessly)

2/ Offers by PM please, I'd like to steal the thunder of other people's wit and imagination in a final post on the subject. Though I won't ignore your post of a villa in Italy if it's posted here.

3/ The tiebreaker isn't optional... It could be pivotal. Or ignored, but more likely pivotal.

it's times like this I wish I had prosthetic arms lying around. I sincerely believe a prosthetic arm trumps a great deal of alternate bids.

Update

Well, it's been a week since I put up this post, I thought I'd do an update as to what's been offered. May give you an idea of what you have to do to beat it.

Most Valuable: About £130 worth.
Smallest: The size of a few perplex city cards
Most obviously didn't read the rules: See "Smallest" and rule #6
Heaviest: About 1.6Kg (at a guess)
Most obscure: Well, I'd never heard of "bodger and badger"?
Most researched: Unspecified Doonesbury assortment and a tree that's shorter than I am.

Number of offers: 10
Number that are likely to deliver: 7 or 8
Number that actaully managed to follow the pretty flimsy rules: 5

Right, tomorrow is the deadline for this, but I've thought of two new rules.

1/ If you're offering, or have offered anything and you're under 18, you'll need your guardian do perform the actual transaction.

2/ Neither item may be sold on. Any suggestions on how I could enforce this? As I've said, I'm quite a greedy person, the thought of me doing this in order for someone to make a quick buck doesn't appeal.

Assuming someone offers something that I actually want (as opposed to collectable rubbish that would just take up more space!), I'll be announcing it on the 2nd of September as I'm out all day on the 1st.
