[UPDATE] Aglaura News Aug 30 - Marzent, Wes Keeler, PBarrens

August 30, 2006:

Police Department Discusses Pine Barrens Activity

Police Chief Prufrock has issued an official statement asking the citizens of Aglaura to "remain calm and exercise common sense and restraint" before calling in any reports to the police department about "strange activities" in the woods. The statement was in response to a wave of false alarm calls that Aglaura police have received in the last week or so, all reporting unusual lights or figures in the woods. "We've spent thousands of dollars already through overtime, record keeping, and so on," explained Chief Prufrock, "and have yet to turn up a single credible or concrete bit of confirming evidence."

The police chief went on to blame the false sightings on a combination of recent events all focused on the woods that have reawakened old fears and rumors about the Pine Barrens.

Former Aglaura Resident Makes Splash

Todd Keeler spent much of his childhood in Aglaura answering the question, "Are you weird Wes Keeler's son?" Some times he even said, "Yes." When his father, a well-known Aglaura personality and businessman, died in a tragic car accident a few years ago Todd moved away, rather than face life in the small community in the perpetual shadow of his father. Recently Todd returned to the area, not to live, but as a creative professional, a businessman in his own right, and the main force behind independent film company Wesson Studios. Along with a crew of filmmakers, Todd has spent a couple of weeks in the Pine Barrens around Aglaura filming the studio's first feature film, Devil in the Backyard.

Marzent Announces Public Safety Plan

Newly-appointed Marzent Community Liaison Diana Sprague held a press conference Wednesday, August 30th to announce plans to augment Marzent's previously-revealed efforts to protect Aglaurans from unsafe areas in the woods surrounding the town. "In Marzent's ongoing effort to put the health and safety of our neighbors and fellow citizens first, we will soon be making the properties we own in the Pine Barrens of Burlington County even more secure. As you know, these areas have been designated as hazardous to the public due to the large number of open mine holes, caves, and sink holes that populate them, and our earlier efforts included fencing in the areas so that hikers and sportsmen could not wander into the areas and injure themselves. Next week, we'll be adding a private security force to that effort, a small team of trained professionals who will make the areas even safer, by providing 24 hour supervision of the sites. No longer will parents have to worry about their sometimes adventurous children climbing the previously-installed fences and putting themselves at risk."

Mrs. Sprague did not take any questions from the small group in attendance.
