Sibling *can* apply in this situation - it just doesn't apply in the most straightforward way. Then again, this is a silver. Silvers are almost never straightforward.

Fair point crovax, though the only instance in which I would have thought you could call these two ships siblings was if they were built in the same boatyard or something similar? Still, maybe, this being a silver, it is we who are being too obvious and have stumbled upon the answer by chance? Confused

I'm mostly stunned by this bit:

This card is an almost exact replica of the Battle of Trafalgar battle formation, with British on the left, French and Spanish on the right. (Two different kinds of bug on the right hand side aswell)

However - the solve box asks for two numbers in numerical format - not roman numerals.
And like that, he's practically got it cracked. I'm dumbfounded. I mean, sheesh! the context clue here is a bunch of stuff strewn in no order around a card with numbers. And fFrom that you get a naval battle fFrom a couple centuries ago??

I'm like this, reading comments:
"Hm, interesting card, wonder why it's upside down, should be fFun, oh look skenmy thinks it's something, well, i suppose that's one theory, someone else says something, people agree with skenmy, i guess people will agree with anything if it's said before anything else --- *boggle* he's right. wtf? what are the odds?"

It didn't hurt that we all became intimately acquainted with this layout from working on Broadside... Turns out, when you actually work on the puzzles you learn quite a bit. Razz And MC keeps these themes going (lord knows why...).

Teamwork Smile It all fell into place at ASIB when Skenmy showed us the card. I'm a bit of a nut for that period of naval history, and the formation's pretty distinctive if you're interested in that sort of thing. A few others also recognised it and Poozle, I think - or maybe someone else next to him - dug up a plan on Google Images to confirm it. After that, we were away chasing for siblings. Moral of the story? Somewhere among the players we have an expert in everything. We just have to get 'em in front of the cards.

And I'm chuffed 'cause finally I have a copy of the card on its way from eBay so I can get a solve in Smile

I don't THINK it was me that bought up an image, and it was on wikipedia I seem to believe, but I remember you being shown the card and saying "Thats the Battle of the Trafalgar".

just a thought, but why use bees and ants for a battle at sea? Bees imply that flight may be involved.

Or am I just being over critical of the analogy.

Possibly a subtle clue - A's and B's...leads us to C's Very Happy

Whoa I'm being mentioned...

Yes - it wasn't me that came up with the idea - although I recognised it, I didn't know it. I was just the one to post it.

could someone possibly confirm the two following things
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. The two boats are on opposing sides
2. The two boats have the same name (or names that mean the same in different languages/cultures)

Many thanks

i'm still a little confused by that clue. Is going back to the list and trial and error a good idea based on what people have said, ie process of elimination?

Yes, please give an extremely blatant clue. As I have researched and tried a ridiculous amount of solves. I guess I'm over analyzing it. Please help.

Edit: Wow! That WAS way easier than I thought. I guess at least I learned alot about a great battle. Thanks Miamo.

Every one of your attempted solves is probably a better solution to the card than what the actual solution is.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Yes, the ships are on opposing sides and have the same name. Sibling rivalry? Go figure.

I think too often poorly-designed puzzles are excused by "deviousness" on the part of MC.

 Confirmed answer?

Can anybody post a confirmed answer? I've tried several combinations and am locked out yet again!
