[Trailhead?] Aperture Science http://www.aperturescience.com/ appears to be something fun to pass the time while waiting for Valve's new Portal game.
If you haven't seen it yet, this is the next fantastical application of Valve's Half-Life 2 engine and its fantastic physics. Entertaining for those of us who work our brains like fine-tuned muscles.
But their new site is interesting. So far, you can use the command LOGIN to get a response, then use any username and the word PORTAL as a password and it brings you to a DOS-prompt-style gateway. I haven't seen commands that work yet.

That's freaky... i could only get to page 44, and then it started getting creepy.
How many pages?

Only 50 or so, you were almost there.
The big surprise is at the end anyway.
And it looks like the Half-Life 2 forums are ahead of us anyway.

Anyone notice certain letters fading in and out when going through the pages?

Yep, the HL2 forum folks beat me to it, but they spell out the following:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the cake is a lie
Also, flashing ASCII cake images all throughout the test, if you're watching for them.
Furthermore, they're delving into the various DOS-like commands one can enter at the beginning, and trying to figure out about the stuff at the end.

The code will invariably be wrong, so just enter anything.

It seems as if the valve staff are watching the reactions and altering the site to either mess with the players head or create a unique marketing scheme directed towards it's audience. To which I applaude, as I haven't seen this before.

Late but still I stumbled over this one elsewhere and ended up back here via a link. I clicked the main link and typed in the stuff suggested above. When the "DOS prompt" came up, I just typed "help" and got a list of stuff -
LIB
APPEND
ATTRIB
COPY
DIR
ERASE
FORMAT
INTERROGATE
LIB
RENAME
TAPEDISK
then the prompt follows. I typed in each of them and most just give a message about it's write protected.
On INTERROGATE I got
GLaDOS v1.06 (c) 1982 Aperture Science, Inc
ERROR 02 [Command requires at least one parameter]
and the prompt.
And yeah I realize I'm way late but oh well....I'll check the other forum and see what's happened since September

Yeah, but that takes all the fun out of watching certain fre...I mean people in #uf randomly picking a username of 'cake' and wondering why pictures of cake kept popping up and why there were so many cake questions and if it was a kloo based on their username.

That's like winning Monopoly by clubbing your opponent with the box and stealing all the money and properties.
I think it's great. It reminds me of the Google job application I filled out.
