[UPDATE] PXC Sentinel 4/9/06 - PCAG Cheating?, Futures

PCAG Investigating Championship Substance Abuse

By CORWIN JONES

Perplex City Academy Games insiders have told the Sentinel under condition of anonymity that a serious investigation is underway regarding the illicit use of cognitive enhancement during the final three weeks of championship play over the last four years. "Some new evidence has recently come to light," said the source, "and the way things are looking now, there could be some serious fallout."

Although no specific names of involved players have been disclosed as of yet, the source said that there could be "very far-flung implications" once the investigators' information is made public. "There will definitely be charges filed," the source said, indicating that "very many top players could have been involved, and there may even have been assistance in the cover-up from highly placed officials linked with the games.

Paula Ching, director of Substance Compliance at the PCAG, admitted that the department is investigating possible violations of PCAG substance rules. However, "This is the reason Substance Compliance exists," she said. "We are always investigating this possibility. ... It's against our policy to comment on specific cases until such a time as we have evidence that it is anything beyond groundless accusation."

PCAG Chairman Robert Zhi-Hui, though, said that he was unaware of any far-reaching investigations of that nature. "We have tests and protocols in place to prevent this sort of thing, and they are strenuously applied and observed by multiple parties during the championship weeks," he said. "Most drug offenders are discovered and dismissed from the games during initial knockout rounds due to these effective policies."

Reigning PCAG champion Ryan Cahill, when questioned about the investigation, indicated that he had not personally heard anything, but said that he hoped the accusations would turn out to be false. "Everyone at the PCAG works hard to keep the games clean and fair," he said. "If someone were trying to get an edge with drugs, that just wouldn't be right."

Futures

By Madame Bianca, for the week of September 4

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
You know that thing you do that you think charms the socks right off people? Bad news, sunshine. It doesn't really, people are just too polite to tell you what they're really thinking.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
A little creative eavesdropping in the days to come may give you an advantage in certain contentious areas of your life. Just take care nobody catches you at it, muffin, or it will go poorly for you.

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Until Sunday, you should neither eat anything pickled nor associate with anybody who does. Bad luck. Use of vinegar in non-pickled recipes is still fine, though, so you can keep your zesty salad dressing.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
This week, the long-awaited Harvest Sunrise V will come out, but you won't be able to lay your hands on a copy for another two weeks, yet. Next time remember that real fans always pre-order the special edition well ahead of time, pumpkin.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
You may feel like you're just going around in circles, but don't let it fret you too much, dumpling. Sometimes you need to run through the same cycle a few times before a pattern jumps out for you to learn from.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
This is an excellent week to begin carrying some sort of multi-purpose utility tool with you. Also, string can come in surprisingly handy, and takes up remarkably little pocket space.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
This week you need to put your shoulder into it and work as hard as you can to make up for your recent slackery ways. If you really push, you should be reasonably back on track by the end of Thursday.

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
A somewhat unpleasant surprise is waiting for on Friday evening, lovingly crafted by someone who means well but just doesn't really understand you very much. Dissemble, my sweet, and you will be able to use this to your advantage within the month.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
Get a little more exercise, darling. It'll help with that terrible hair problem you've had lately, and it will also lift that terrible mood you've been inflicting on all of us. Everybody wins!

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Aim high, sweet pea. This is definitely going to be one of those times when dancing around the issue isn't going to help anything, and anyway, you've always preferred shooting straight at the heart, haven't you?

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
You may think you're in the final stretch, but don't count on that making anything easier for you in the short term. I suggest issuing a lot of pre-emptive apologies on account of how very, very irritable you'll be for a while, duckling.

And remember, don't count on serving butter from a dry cow.

Tile puzzle hint, anyone?

Scarlett overhears lovely Uncle Sanjean whispering 'Soon, soon my pretty... soon you will be mine, ALL MINE!' from his secret cellar/temple/3P HQ room that he accidently forgot to close the door to?

And this, too...

Quote:
Alejo, Joya Quarrel

Pop stars Alejo Jackson of Roll for Damage and singer Joya were spotted having a heated row on Saturday night, dampening the hopes of those fans who had hoped the two were well on their way to a romantic reconciliation. Their argument came during what had until then appeared to be an amiable night out for the two at Cervantes.

The Apple Thief this week quotes from the song Freewill by popular Canadian power trio Rush ....

"There are those who think that life is nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance.

A planet of playthings,
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive.
"The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign"
Blame is better to give than receive.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will.

There are those who think that they were dealt a losing hand,
The cards were stacked against them
They weren't born in lotus land.

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate.

Kicked in the face,
You can pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will.

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete.
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will. "

Edit - 42nd post!

Wow, a Rush song in a futures... First time ever?

I haved searched, but all futures don't seem to be archived. Seeing as how they have provided hints lately - Madame Bianca has a lot more credibility IMO.

(Now if she could just predict a "Shuffled" passphrase accurately, she would be my hero. Or maybe she has, but we were not paying attention?)

harvest sunrise v feels like an anagram. lots of likely words; hunts, revives, heaven, rush, sente, versus, shuts, nerves, hurts, strives, ruth, shivers, survives, virus etc but can't get it. multipurpose tool is most likely to be cluing a swiss army knife. slackery ways also feels like an anagram, skyway clears? and dry cow suggests something about needing milk.

Or it could just simply relate to 'harvest moon' which comes out soon. Cool

Wah, who, what? Catches me at evesdropping? I don't think so! Its funny how Madame has become centre of attention again - back when the weekly PPCS update was the only update, she was our most favourite clue supplier.

Ah, the circle of life.

food

It seems to me that there were a LOT of food references for this week. I have been away for a while, so my brain does not function as well as it did last week. But, I do think it may be relevant...Maybe Madame B wants us to make a cake? Smile

AH-HA!! I knew our PCAG sweetheart had something up her sleeve! here's the article proclaiming Cahill victory, in which Serena Duncan said:
Quote:
Duncan, who was the 268 champion and had been defending her title, was shockingly candid about her displeasure in losing the finals match to Cahill. "We all know that I am a stronger competitor," she said. "What happened [on Saturday] is purely a matter of luck. There's no way in a fair and level match that Ryan should have beaten me. He simply isn't that good."

I was really hoping she wasn't just being a sore loser. I tend to like Duncan, and to have her so .. pouty .. very unbecoming! So color me happy to see someone looking into this, eh Smile

Duncan? It's Ryan Cahill who's the drug-user here Razz (Cognivia could be using him for testing of undetectable enhancers - who knows? He's an anti-drug crusader, reigning champion, and Sente's protege, so clearly he ought to be mixed up in something Razz) Or perhaps the PCAG are simply adding spice:

Quote:
"PCAG officials are rumoured to be discussing what can be done to revitalise interest in these early matches in a year that, so far, has had none of the surprise eliminations or drug scandals that have spiced up early proceedings over the last few years."

PS. The weeklong Lighting of the Way celebration for the equinox (harvest moon I believe is late this year, in Oct) I believe is in about two weeks' time Razz Futures also made me think of string theory/pocket universes, among other things seemingly connected.

well, yes, that's what i, uhm, meant .. i guess i'm just slightly too oblique at times.

You know, I hate to jump on the "Evil" button quite so much. Sente, Earlywine, Cahill .. but there are varying levels of evil. Earlywine is a 3P puppet (yeah, I'm confident enough saying that about the bastard). that's pretty fFreakin evil. Cahill just wants to win big, which raises the perplexian debate of using enhancers in sports, making him morally ambiguous, not evil. And he's got the stink of Joya on him -- although I guess maybe she's not evil. maybe.

/me eyes the Evil Button.

maybe.

Could this reference the whipsmart cows, which as I recall, had a virus that cut milk production?
