Hi,

I hate to do this but my PC crashed and I tried to restart the client yesterday (several times) and left it overnight but its not reconnecting.

I think its just my PC but wanted to check as I can't find a fault with it.

Cheers.

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but what is in a "work unit" - is it a batch of keys that keys tried with rccrypt, or is it a batch of files that have come out of rccrypt? And how many such things are in a work unit?

Currently a work unit is a bunch of keys the client crunches before getting another bunch.

At the moment there are around 14.7million keys per work unit.

Just an update.

I have just about completed development work in the Phase 2 client and once I complete internal testing (most likely by the end of the week) this will enter test use in parallel with the existing production client.

This client (1.4.0) will (when operating in Phase 2 mode) add several punctuation characters to the keyspace to continue the search, assuming (as now seems likely) that the pure Alphanumeric keyspace is exhausted without an answer being found.

More information should be available through www.13thlabour.tk as testing progresses

That happened to me too. I'll probably just wait for 1.4.0 to start again, but if anyone knows how to fix it, I'll get back to work.

You know, with the prospect of adding punctuation coming up, I just realized something.

The thought of adding a period made me chuckle at first. "Heh, reminds me of the old days of trying to name files on DOS. eight letters, dot, extension."

... xxxxxxxx.xxx ...

Right about then, it hit me that we're trying to find a twelve-character string.

Maybe we're supposed to be looking for a file name. It would make perfect sense, if it was a file name that we're supposed to find, something along the lines of skiteway.jpg (not that I expect that to be the answer, mind you, but just as an example). Heck, it could be something as simple as 13labour.exe or the like.

I'm all about continuing the brute force method, but maybe we should prioritize searching names that look like computer file names, first.

Or a URI?

That slipped my mind, but it would make perfect sense as well. Either way, it would be the key to alot more information than you could fit in just 12 characters.

With this problem for me it was a DNS issue, my machine for some reason is unable to determine the difference between an external name and an external name. So 13th labour was not able to do everything it needed.

The problem went away on its own, just as quietly as it arrived. Sad

Update

As you will have noticed we have recently entered teh final 10% of the existing keyspace of our brute force. Chimera245 has also posted an update regarding a new updated and second wave client.

When we originally started the brute force we chose to concentrate on the keyspace 1-0 a-z A-Z as this was at the time a logical way to help reduce the time the brute force would take to complete. As such, and as we near the end of this keyspace, Chimera245 has prepared a new cleint in the event that there are additional characters to test. As a starting point we have extended the keyspace to include <space> , . ! ?

Testing of this client will be ready later in the week hopefully and once tested will be rolled out as soon as we complete the existing keyspace allowing us to continue the brute force. I have also got a few ideas that will hopefully give us a little more coverage and try to increase the number of active clients to help speed up the whole effort.

There is still a lot to do and anyone wishing to help should email me guinSPLAT13thlabour.tk

Is it possible to see the output of the application used to attempt to decrypt this? I have a horrible fear that the answer has been overlooked. Perhaps it's my natural cynicism where computers are concerned.
