Just catching up to this, but helpmeveronica.com has updated with a post-it note from Mac that says, "I got everything back, but I couldn't get rid of that icon on the desktop. You should have password-protected this thing. Have I taught you nothing? You're secure now, though. This jerk might know all about you, Veronica, but does he know my real name? - Mac"

And the Steven videos that couldn't be accessed yesterday (at least when I tried) are now there again, plus there's a new video from "The Victim."

Also, her Case Notes folder asks for a password... is that new?
EDIT: the password is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

"Cindy", Mac's real name.

Also (yes, there's a lot!), if you go back to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/brick.html it's been updated. Now the title is Straight to the Source. There's a white image (titled "wrong-picture.jpg") with "this isn't right" in red, and the following message beneath:

Quote:

Let me apologize.
This must be frustrating. Veronica, my intentions aren't
exactly to piss you off, but I just can't set the bar
beneath you, or else the wrong person with this data
in hand would destroy it. Who knows who would be next?

When you view the source code, you see this:

Code:

<!-- srtessi rymec
atolushoc wsalya -->

which anagrams to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

sisters mercy
holocaust always

A google search reveals that the band Sisters of Mercy has an album called "Holocaust", the first track of which is called "First and Last and Always" but that's as far as I got.. EDIT: "First and Last and Always" is an album title also...

EDIT: If you change http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/wrong-picture.jpg to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/right-picture.jpg you get the message "they're all rbsaldcme!" in red.

Which can be deciphered as: they're all scrambled! --which we kinda knew already, so now what?

helpmeveronica

Sisters of Mercy is a band, that has an album, Holocaust. The first track on the album is "First and Last and Always"

I'm new, so I don't know how much of the rest of this should be in spoilers, so I will put it all there

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Notice the odd line breaks in the "let me apologize" message. Take the First and Last letter of each line and you get
letterbait

When you change the URL to http://helpmeveronica.com/clickme/letterbait.html

New picture of an eye, a rabbit, and bells.

View source says the name of the photo is "not-a-rabbit" and the comment says "add an e"

If it's not a rabbit, maybe its a hare. Add an 'e' and you get
ihearbells

When you change the URL to
http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/ihearbells.html

the title of the page is "Almost...", and the page says "THE"

Add "the" into the URL
http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/ihearthebells.html

the title of the page is still "Almost...", but the new page says

Getting warmer. The origin of. The collection.

Googling "I hear the bells" gives you a song by Mike Doughtry on the Veronica Mars soundtrack. Checking Amazon.com music tells us that the album (or collection) "I hear the bells" is from is called "Haughty Melodic"

Try that in the URL and you find

http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/haughtymelodic.html

a picture showing the date 3/30/2006 and in the bottom corner the message
duowndzkhbnocq

The title of the page is "Forward March!"

Viewing the source reveals the comment
keep your wits about you and you will be fine
before I march forward, I put my soldier in line

Ok, this is where I am - again, spoilering everything just in case:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On the 'Forward March!' page. Have tried the duown... through all the code breaking things I know, and nada. Have googled the thing from the source, about keeping your wits about you: a bunch of results for the first line, none of which seem relevant, and none for the second. I've tried all sorts of things about April to get to the next page - I was thinking Forward March meant going into April - but again, nothing. I'm sure the answer's there, and I just can't see it!!

new URLS

Two new urls

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/aroundtheblock.html
hex at top translates to pellicola-noir which is italian. English translation is film-noir

No idea what the glass and key are, but the title of the picture is mistake.jpg so maybe it doesn't matter.

new url:
http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film-noir.html

Title is Pump Up The Volume, picture is a boombox.

View source shows nothing special.

This is great, but it's usually nice to now how things are found. For instance, was "aroundtheblock" a solution to the "Forward March!" page?

EDIT: As an example:

The aroundtheblock.html page contains the text 70656C6C69636F6C612D6E6F6972 over the glass/key image.

Also, the page is titled "All your BASE are belong to us? I'm a sweet SIXTEEN!", which is a clue to use Base16 (or HEX) decoding.

Using a translator, that string of letters and digits translates to "pellicola-noir".

The source code of that page includes the message "<!-- in inglese -->", so translating "pellicola-noir" to English from Italian, you get "film-noir", which gives you: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film-noir.html

There are musical notes played on the film noir page: G, A, B, B, E, D, so the next page is http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/gabbed.html

I think (at work, and my laptop is not cooperating) the bold letters (from the different pages in the gabbed.html-source) are:

I understand that aroundtheblock is the answer to the Foward March! page... but how did we get to this? I'm missing the logic here. Could someone fills in the blanks for continuity's sake?

TY,
equi

Yes, it's an image map to various Live Journal acounts for the students at Hearst (see earlier posts in this thread). You can find each addy in the source code on the page for ease of copying & pasteing.

So, hidden links in the sourcecode to the gabbed.html page take you to these pages

http://hearst-hottie.livejournal.com/3971.html
http://spikeiterica.livejournal.com/6156.html
http://molly-at-hearst.livejournal.com/1808.html
http://scarlettwinch.livejournal.com/866.html
http://lindita-grl.livejournal.com/1376.html

As mentioned above, bold letters in those pages give you the letters

yrksatfamousgree

Rearranging those stings of letters gives you "famous greek satyr", which takes you to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/pan.html

That page is titled Tit for Tat and contains an image of a picture ("themessage.jpg") in a symbol code. The source code contains the message <!-- Guy Haines Anne Morton all lowercase -->.

Googling "Guy Haines Anne Morton" tells you that they are from the movie Strangers on a Train. Putting that in all lowercase gives you: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/strangersonatrain.html

That page is titled Take it back with you and contains an image ("decoder.jpg") that contains a partial listing of a key for the symbol code. The source code contains <!-- Jaded zombies acted quaintly but kept driving their oxen forward. -->, which is a standard phrase that contains all 26 letters of the alphabet.

Obviously, we are supposed to use this decoder image to decode that message on the previous page. However, I can't yet get all the letters out of the key...

EDIT: Got it... the decoder image uses the phrase The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog, but only some of the letters are visible, and the same symbols seem to map onto multiple letters, but you can extrapolate and get the right answer, which leads you to: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/femmefatale.html

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the source, you see "What you see is a reflection of my choice and what it means to me", which is lyrics from an Incubus song named "Speak Free" off of their The Fungus Amungus record.

femmefatale.html gives you a little puzzle:

numbers on a CD.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
CD numbers: 1614173234. This in the source: What you see is a reflection of my choice and what it means to me. Page title: It's all in the titles.

The reflection on the CD is a map.html. This gives us another decoder list to take back to the femmefatale page to solve out the numbers.

List from map.html: (my answers are in parantheses- all are incubus songs).
1. underneath chaotic catastrophe creation takes the stage (NEW SKIN)
6. but you still kept your hand over my mouth (MEXICO)
1. when you were meant to be a meal (SMILE LINES)
4. you bit the hand that feeds us just to kill your prophet now (THE ANSWER)
1. fill me up with over-pious badgerings (FAVORITE THINGS)
7. if you know who lost it, I'll give it away! (MAGIC MEDICINE)
3. it's evident the scene has changed (NOWHERE FAST)
2. you too are one of the walking dead (CONSEQUENCE)
3. pink tractor beam into your incision (HERE IN MY ROOM)
4. now go and try and sleep in the bed you made (ZEE DEVEEL)

edited above to include new list.

Re: new URLS

Umm, jumping ALL the way back to this:

dreamtyger wrote:

If you go to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/theglasskey.html

there's a completely *different* puzzle trail!

The title is No help here. and the image says "One..two..three..blastoff!" and is titled "1.jpg." If you change http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/1.jpg to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/2.jpg there is a completely different image with "film/darkpassage.html" on it.

So then, you go to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film/darkpassage.html

On that page, titled Very Dark. there is an image (titled "not-a-clue.jpg", against a background called "noir.jpg" by the way) with the caption What's different? The source code contains <!-- C'est bien, n'est pas? -->.

If you go to to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film/black.jpg it contains a text image with craintedanslanuit, which is "crainte dane la nuit", which can be translated to "Fear in the Night."

So, then you go to http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film/fearinthenight.html

That page, titled Keep looking. seems completely black, but if you "Select All" you see the following binary code:

Quote:

01101011 01101001 01110011 01110011
01101101 01100101
01100100 01100101 01100001 01100100 01101100 01111001

Which can be translated to "kissmedeadly"

So this takes you to: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/film/kissmedeadly.html

That page has the title Too easy. You can't be Veronica. and contains an image (titled "stumped.jpg") and contains, appropriately enough, a picture of a tree stump with "-ed?" printed on it. The caption, in red, says: Life isn't always a detective story.

If you click on the image, it takes you ALL the way back to the beginning: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/page.html

DAMN

Next solution to the CD puzzle here (sorry, I've been bad at using spoilertext):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

You select the letter in each song title corresponding to the number:

1. NEW SKIN
6. MEXICO
1. SMILE LINES
4. THE ANSWER
1. FAVORITE THINGS
7. MAGIC MEDICINE
3. NOWHERE FAST
2. CONSEQUENCE
3. HERE IN MY ROOM
4. ZEE DEVEEL
