Hi,
Following on from the clues, I've modified the previous program to display the islands as shown in Ehsan post above. Use keys 1-0,a and b to select a 'line', press and drag left mouse button to move the origin and space to toggle the subtraction of the water (blue) from the land masses (white). Initially, the top line is the only line that is subtracted. You'll need to get the hang of this. When a line is selected, its land parts (the upper bits) are drawn in faint. Ideally, all points should lie on white pixels - assumimg all lines are drawn from dry land.

Nice tool!
Have you managed to get a solution using this method?

Using Skizz's program, I've come up with somthing close to a solution. They all fit prety well apart from '0' which just about fits. Shuffling the others about may produce a better fit.

Lines 2 and 0 (10) are the only lines which do not wrap correctly (start and end matches). They also finish with a long high part. I suspect they are missing a transition to low some time before the end.

It is difficult to see shapes of the islands, since the rays cast from the islands remove land from the islands themselves.

Thanks c1023, I gave it a try last night, but I didn't have enough time.

Two things though, isn't this supposed to reveal a 13th island? And are these traces affected by the island that they're on? For example, number two has a landmass visible from about 240° to 360°; is that a really big island, or island two itself?

I'll have to re-read Kurt's post, and give this tool another try.

Call me crazy, but I really want to solve this one.

I've updated the tool I posted earlier. It now saves and loads the island layout. I've added labels to each island to help identify them. Also, there's a zone around each island that the rays don't intersect with - using + and - changes the size of this zone. If you copy map.dat.bak to map.dat you'll get c1023's layout he posted earlier.

My only concern about c1023's layout is that there are a lot of peaks where there's no land, for example, just west of north for line 3.

Just a bit of speculation here, but I don't think we'll ever see a map of the islands - mainly because it won't tie up with the lines on the paper. I think the really important information is the method and that it could be applied to other clues that have been released - the numbers on the cards? Just a thought.
