[META]Question... The most basic one of all.

I have a question that maybe no one has the answer to.

Who was it that first discovered the Metacortex site?

I've been reading BriEnigma's page, and searching around here, and other places on the web. But no one seems to know who was it that made the discovery. Everyone seems to say, "Well, I heard it from 'Coming Soon' homepage." or "Well, I just saw the new forums open for a new ARG when I came into unfiction.com to check out some ARG news." Basically what I'm getting is "I heard it from this guy or this out-of-game news website". But who was it that discovered this game?

Did the PMs make some kind of announcement? Did some Matrix fan just decide for shits and giggles to type in www.metacortechs.com and said, "Woe hey there's a website!" Did one of the PMs come to unfiction disguised as a player and say, "Hey guys I found a new ARG, go here."

What was it?

Ah I'm glad someone asked. You see I have recently discovered from clues I left myself that I dicovered the game, but then was reprogrammed for some reason!?
Very Happy

I remembered this from an earlier thread about it being a sponsored link from Google. Not sure of the veracity of it though

Quote:
i frequent some matrix related fan site messageboard www.matrixfans.net and somebody discovered this site. it comes up as a paid link in google so this might be made by people involved with the movies.

Legend has it that Statik, a matrix fan and matrix community member, found the link and posted it first (via the google featured link).

This is why Statik was paid tribute to by caesar in his "perfect attendance" image in the aquapolis ftp site (so it has been said).

So Statik is not a PM just posing as a player on one of the forums just to promote the game.

(I wonder if any of the unfiction members here maybe one of the PMs. NO! I will not think such blasphemy! Rolling Eyes )

Maybe I was before the reprogramming I mentioned?

Maybe you still are. Insomnia can produce some weird schizophrenic habbits. Haven't you ever seen Fight Club? Tyler Durden might be your alter ego. *gasp* And the PM of this arg!

Now that was a great film!

I was actually around when all this first started, so I can answer that. Good question. Here, I'll give you the original source so you can see for yourselves...

The thread at Matrixfans.net where Statik first posted about Metacortex back in August

The thread at Matrixfans.net that revived the discussion in September after the press release came out. Sorry, I edited the first post, but you can see the original one underneath it...

Hope that helps! To stop the rumors and suspicions, it's always best to go to the original sources. Mr. Green

(btw, this is totally unrelated, but, niobexrev, I just saw your first post on PWOT.com...how strange is that? Heh...I love that site, but I'm not brave enough to post on the forums. Hee...)

[Edit] BTW, the first thread provides fascinating proof that the PMs were watching from the beginning. The paid google link was taken down very soon, as were the Matrix links...hey, I just realized that the link find was my first (and only, if I'm not mistaken) actual original contribution to this game. And that was only because no one else was playing at the time. Oh well...still, go me! Mr. Green

Thanks, this is the question I've been meaning to ask for a long time but never got around to it. Whoever's got websites that has information about the history of this ARG should include that very beginning story with Statik. I'm trying to make a history overview myself for the folks at cinecon forums.

BTW, yeah actually I hear about PWOT forums through one of the cinecon members who posted a website about some idiot who posted a matrix hate site on the internet. I say idiot because, I don't care if he didn't like the matrix, it's the reasons he gave. For instance he said that the Bros were trying to get rid of the black cast, and as examples he said that Aaliyah and the woman who played the Oracle were let go, and were unable to be reached for comment.

Yeah, I'll let you all figure that one out. Anyway there was a forum listed along with it, but I didn't see any matrix hate threads posted by this guy so I just decided to start a thread about Dark Tower because I'm enjoying the books right now.

Anyway this is off subject. I would like to get a website of my own started, thanks for the info.

[WARNING: The following post is completely off-topic and unrelated to the ARG. Sorry.]

Hee! Ok, that's why I worship that site. Once you realize how absolutely ridiculous his reasons are, you'll see that it is, in fact, satire. I mean, the guy's name is Dr. Albert Oxford...he is a figment of "David Wong"'s imagination. (in quotes because that isn't his real name, as far as I know, no idea what it actually is...) Anyway, yeah, he did the same thing for LOTR. It isn't satire making fun of the movies...it's a satirical representation of stupid pompous film critics who haven't the faintest idea what they're talking about. In actual fact, Wong is a huge Matrix fan. Check out his hilarious Revolutions trailer analysis if you don't believe me. Only a true fan could have included such a heartfelt "please" at the end, and he's defended Reloaded to death on the forums. Seriously, take a look at the sheer amount of Matrix articles he's written. My point...he wrote the Oxford articles too. Very Happy See what I mean? It's really funny once you realize that not a single thing on that site is meant to be taken seriously. I love that site...they do tend to tear newbies to little pieces on the forums, though, so I'd be careful if I were you. Very Happy

Links if people want to see what we're talking about:
50 Reasons to Reject the Matrix...Warning: spoilers for Revolutions!
Thoughts on the Matrix and Terrorism...wonderful
Matrix Revolutions trailer analysis that I was talking about...
oh, and His (and Jay Pinkerton's, who didn't like the movies quite as much] analysis of fan predictions...not quite as funny, but somewhat accurate
Mr. Green
