Actually....

the code works for all the notes in the oboe line - including the ones played earlier in the piece. It calls for a bit of revision - she doesn't want to go past high or low A, so P-V are eighth notes declining one step, W-Y are eighth notes jumping two steps (W is low A followed by C, X is presumably C followed by E, and Y is E followed by G), and we have no official code for the letter Z.

You'll note, when you plug those in, that it spells out the message in big green letters displayed on the music. Apparently, that's how we were *supposed* to solve it.
