Avoiding Halo 3
To avoid or not to avoid ... that is the question

(pretty sure this is the proper forum - if not sorry imbri)

As a puppetmaster I'm having a hard time trying to ensure that anything I write avoids any reference to the Halo storylines. I've seen Halo fanbois flock to many of the ARGs out there, swarming it with Halo this and Halo that. My question is as a Puppetmaster, should we do everything we can to avoid this?

Avoiding it lets these fanbois come and go without any disturbances toward the end of the game when they realize it isn't a Halo based game. It prevents the ilovebees2.com syndrome of "They're bogus, I don't care about the game, I ain't playing."

Promoting such tie ins brings a large crowd of Halo fanbois, and if you can do a good job at it... can get your game's name out there enough to survive...

But what if you don't care either way and you just run your story and if it has something that can be construed as a tie in ... so be it - fanbois will come and go, but you'll still be there and hopefully the game won't have imploded.

What are your opinions? I plan on doing the last part, who cares about the fanbois... I just have to stop caring about what they could do to the game... LOL

I think the best thing to remember is that this is your voice you're using and your story that you are telling. ARG is just a medium, much like film or literature. Just tell your own story and try not to step on the toes of those that have come before you and you should be alright. If it is interesting, it will draw an audience on it's own merit
