[META] Where are the Unfictioners watching Cassie?
As well as numerous META points about the story, mechanics, etc.

Looking back, there used to be pages and pages of decoding on here. Now, it's hard for us to even get to 2.

Where did we all go? The LG15 forums? There's lots of activity going on over there, but I find myself annoyed over on that forum. Too much chatter to trawl through, keeping up hourly still drowns you in messages.

I want to play this game, but at the risk of seeming negative on that forum, I'm a little off-put by their apparent need to freak out any time someone mentions the word "Manson." It's as if they were so uncomfortable at the idea of a Manson-related subplot that it was to be stricken from existence. But yet, I don't think Cassie ever came out and said "NO MANSON A LIE I HATE MANSON." Perhaps CiW is canon, and the Creators told the mods to take that stance, however itseems to be censorship which could be eliminating potential clues, so I really hope we UFers come back to this forum... yello?

(I'm sorry if this is an inappropriate post, but it seems unusual that updates and discussion about this potentially cool ARG would be so lacking in comparison to another forum)

EDIT: Tagged topic and added subtopic to more clearly convey the subject matter of the thread. --Phaedra

People have simmilar feelings about an arg here called searching for av. It has some creepy subject matter which makes some rather not participate.

I just keep seeing lots of refs to Morse Code, and not much actual story, to be honest.

What's the hook?

I have to agree with krstyn. There isn't much storyline to compel the veteran ARGers, and there's too many useless clues to help us new to the game. Plus, would you rather see pages and pages of anagrams when we can just watch the other board and get them? None of the clues have gotten us anything. Even the clues that brought us to another clue (the two dead drops) brought us to... more dead ends. Perhaps when the clues start to be less mysterious and gel a little bit we will get more (non lg15.com) participants.

i still dont really know how i feel about this arg, as someone said with av....the only time i really get to search for clues, due to real life commitments, is between 8pm and 12am....which means i'm looking at these things when half asleep, alone, in the dark....and paranoia creeps in.

but be assured, i havent gone over to the other forum, just lurking here Smile

Well, we now have a blog for this Frank fellow, who seems to be channeling Cassie and is responsible for the bible page put in the park.

You're right, though. There isn't all that much in the way of story, I'm guessing that it's still trying to let LG15 be the main drive. But now that we have Frank/something tangible, maybe it'll pick up a bit.

Sorry about the post - I think i was just a little frustrated, knowing that over here we wouldn't lock posts because someone brings up an image/reference that is clearly CiW canon (Manson), and that makes me just a little bit concerned about game playing.

But there is a story! If we are going to believe that this is part of LG15 then we do have a story. Cassie is just one part of it. Frank is another.

I dropped the cassie thing because there was too much attention to it. By the time I watched the video on YT there were already 20 comments on it with the solution to the puzzle, and Frank's blog gets 100+ comments everytime, not to mention I stop looking at the LG15 forums for half a day and then the thread I was looking is 28 pages ahead and locked.

I thought the cassie thing would dry up and blow away, but I was quite taken with Frank's blog (I have a couple of friends who 'hear voices'):

frank wrote:

Very poetic, and in some ways can be read as a comment on the rather hysterical response cassie has received on the LG15 forums. This seems to be cassie's strength at the moment - a kind of greek chorus. Someone on the cove forum wrote a very articulate post about the first dead drop, noting that the various spin off videos all seemed to contain scenes of people watching, being watched, and this is the way I treat it for now: something that pushes and probes at the Bree/Daniel bubblegum drama, giving a bit more expression to the self-consciousness and chaos induced by adolescent hormones.

Well I've been spending most of my time over in the crazy bin. Why? Because interest over here, at home, is minimal. I can't help but sympathize. The clues have been lame, and almost pointless, and until Frank showed up we had 2 to 3 solid weeks of unsatisfying foreplay with no real solid story. I completely understand why most of the ARGers here have taken a peek at it and decided it wasn't worth the price of admission.

It's a guilty pleasure for me though. A complete trainwreck...and I can't look away. They hooked me with that first dead drop. I can never get enough of live events, and if they're slightly dangerous and spooky, even better. I don't even care if the clues are bunk and the story ends up pointless. I like the hunt. It's the journey for me all the way.

I doubt seriously that Cassie is canon, and that makes no difference to me. It seems to be rushed and peicemealed together, which tells me that it was a reaction to LG15 and not a premeditated branch of the story. The PMs jumped into the deepend before realizing how deep it actually was.

They can refer to Manson and his family all day long and I won't bat an eyelash. They can use the goriest photographs they can find. I have a strong stomach. The mob took over for a bit and brought the issue off topic, but the original compliants over the Manson issue was an ethical one. The use of an actual photograph of Sharon Tate's living room with the corpses still lying there. It's disrespectful to use a photo of something like that in entertainment. Period.

I'm not talking out of my granola-filled ass here either. I've had to sit and listen to Howard Stern, and every national news station in the US, broadcast the 911 call my 5yr old niece made after finding her parents murdered. I had the press in my face after watching my Brother suffocate and die in front of me, after we took him off of life-support. News is news, and I'm happy that people learned of the tragedy and cared to show their support...but what if someday, years from now, someone used peices of that phonecall in an ARG. I don't think that there is a word that correctly describes the emotion I'm imagining right now, but I think it's somewhere between anguish and blind fury. It would be beyond callous to do that. I fully expect to have to deal with that experience some day.

Did the mods there go overboard, yes, quite a bit. Like I said the mob fed off of a few comments on the subject and turned rabid. It was actually funny...in a macabre sort of way. For my part, what I did, was inform the Cassie PM's that I couldn't condone that kind of usage, and if it turned out that they were going to continue along that vein I was going to drop the game. The Moderator's decision to effectively ban any mention of the Manson murders is definitely an over-reaction.

Now since then things have slowly progressed and the forums are organizing themselves...sort of. There are alot of noobs over there just getting thier feet wet and the signal to noise ratio needs to be dialed in, but that's how ilovebees went as well. Halo2 brough in many trolls. Like any large net, a high profile ARG is going to drag in lots of detritus, but there will be plenty of bright new ones in the mix.

I'm trying to foster that over there. Teach the kids their table manners before bringing them to the big kids table. I rather do the sifting over there, than clog up the works here.

I just hope Cassie gets it in gear and starts shining a bit. Blocks of jumbled text gets old quick. She has the material, and a dedicated audience to make the game good, but will she fullfill that promise? If she does I think we can expect the UF crew to jump in and start taking names.

It's kind of up to her PMs, and I remain hopeful...realistic, yet hopeful.

Hey Cu Roi - I thought that was well put. I can see how your nieces call would give you a unique viewpoint on this, yet your realization that the news "is what it is" is very realistic. I think Cassie got the picture that some things go over the line - but we don't want to be banning things.

Anyways - I keep checking over here, because, I too get frustrated when during puzzle solving on lg15 there are so many non-helpful posts it gets difficult to solve anything. I come over here in the hopes that a more organized thread will start - but so far nothing. I guess this ARG sort of resists control - but that is part of what makes it fun. I will keep checking, though, so if we can drum up some activity when we are not in one of Cassie's WAIT periods - I'd would rather work over here. The lightings better Smile

Cu Roi, I totally see where you're coming from. I also do agree, using things like Manson in that context is pretty harsh, controversial, and motives are suspect. I just figure that it was used in one of the videos, so it could be a clue (i.e. Cassie was someone who was murdered in a ritual killing in the same way that Sharon Tate or other Family victims were), and to immediately discount it because it's uncomfortable doesn't really help the game. It reeks of censorship (I had far less of a problem with the "Let's not make a huge issue out of it," but it got silly when it became: "Mods: Can I make the suggestion that any time this topic [manson] comes up, the poster gets a truck out trout dumped on them Twisted Evil, and the thread locked?" Actual quote)

Still, I appreciate your position (and I am truly, honestly sorry about your brother and his family). I do understand why people would be averse to it, I just find that over here, we're a bit more tolerant of such things.

Anyway, on to better topics.

Not here, over at the LG15 forum. In this locked thread. Which is what prompted THIS thread.

But yeah. Enough of me whining... also, I don't want to come across as ungracious towards their awesome puzzle-solving, 'cause they're pretty damn fast and smart over there... so let's play!
