Heh, all this reminds me, I should go stick a META tag on this topic...and maybe rename it a bit since this has pretty much become the meta thread.

Admittedly, I'm an inveterate META-head, and in some ways it's more common for me to be interested in META aspects than it is for me to be interested in the story.

But the fact that you can't derail it is also pretty telling. If the story's compelling enough, people are going to be engaged in it whether or not there's also curiosity about the mechanics.

The mere presence of meta discussion (especially if it's separated from gameplay -- which is one of the reasons we have topic tags) is not enough, in my experience, to kill immersive gameplay if the story is compelling and immersive enough to hold people's interest. They can coexist quite peacefully.

But if the meta discussions are attracting far more people than the gameplay itself, well, then perhaps the PMs need to take a long hard look at the story and how it's being disseminated. Confused

Phaedra, yeah...The storyline is pretty much non-existant at this point...I was really hoping that the discovery of Franks blog would give us more in that area....but so far...*shrugs*

I like meta, as much as the next arger, but STORY is what I love. The first video, man...Ultimate creep factor, and boy, the story could have (hopefully still could be?) been amazing. But it really, really seems like the PMs didn't know what they were getting into. Hopefully, they realize now what they have and are working really hard on preparing...Hence the 'waiting' we are doing. Hee.

Sorry. You read quite a bit that wasn't intended into my fleeting impression. Obviously a bit of history there...

Ah, sorry, then. Smile

I know you're not attacking me (that's why I used a smiley). Yes, the stance does seem silly. However, the same topic comes up and typically gets deleted. Which means it comes up again and gets deleted again. Rinse. Repeat. By jokingly suggesting the trout, I was suggesting that the topic has been discussed to death. By suggesting the thread be locked, I was hoping that the thread would be left in place so new people coming to the board would know. Otherwise, they probably would have just deleted the thread, and the topic would have come up a dozen more times since then, and been deleted a dozen more times. I just think it's wiser to have it in public that it's off-limits rather than have an unspoken rule that gets broken every time someone new comes along.

Fair enough Smile I do understand the locking of threads as an example. In fact, I am much more agreeable to having it publically stated "We don't want to discuss this topic here because it is disturbing to our community" in big neon orange letters, rather than just pretending it doesn't exist. Because otherwise, as you say, it doesn't go away. I probably would not have gotten as upset and posted this. Still we wouldn't have had what seems to be a neat discussion forming here.

Anyway, I'm glad you got here, sorry about not letting you know personally that I quoted you (it actually hadn't crossed my mind because I'm often absentminded in things like that), and I appreciate hearing your side of the issue - just like everyone else's perspective. It's been an odd timeline, this CassieIsWatching thing.

That's the thing, the story. It's so pregnant (heh) of potential, there is SO MUCH that can be done with this, and there is so much being hinted at that would be fantastic. Now, as the people popping here have said, there is so much gamejacking and so much blatant attempt to derail the game with other gamejacks (why are you following the coattails of a fan-product, instead of making your own fan product? I don't get it) that it's actually getting more confusing than the Lost Experience was for a while.

Also, I have this terrible fear that it will end up like Vaporlofts did, with all this information and massive amounts of cool, challenging puzzles until it kinda... ended. Suddenly, and without answering any of the questions.

But I'm sticking around, because I am intrigued, and Bree is hot. Wink

No problem... Woulda been no big deal, except now everyone here thinks I'm an ogre who feeds trout to newbies just so that I can fatten them up and eat them Razz Yes, this CiW thing has been interesting. Might not have been the best introduction to ARGs for some of us, but at least it's gotten us here Smile

I trust you've discovered UF's META forum? </enabler>

Actually I am on that already and it's very low traffic. And by the time something gets written its in the middle. For one thing I figured out the LG15 thing on my own but it would have been nice to hear that it was happening.

I don't know I'm lazy

and Shana Tovah by the way, time to build those huts

Its the confusion that keeps me watching. I defend myself against any accusations of perversity, by declaring my habit an exercise in anthropology, but really I'm as drawn to it as James Ballard was to accidents.

But there's still a part of me that wishes they wouldn't pull their punches so willingly. Since Charmed and Buffy found an audience, having an occultist as your heroine may not be such a novelty, but to explore religion and teenage desires in a faux-documentary fashion, to really look at it closely, could have been interesting.

Detail... Its missing too much detail.
