I guess Violet told you all about our adventures at the Viendenbourg Heritage Centre. It's weird. The compound is still the same, the low-slung grey building is still there but now there's this tourist attraction for, apparently, the general public. It's very odd - obviously it hasn't been there long but really it still had that wet-paint smell to it. It looks so new I practically expected to find bits of it still wrapped in plastic. We feel kind of idiotic not having thought to check up on our key networks about what might have been going on here, but what were we supposed to do? The last time I was here it was a top-secret military facility, who would have thought it'd turn into a theme park?!
Anyway, Violet and I came up with a plan of attack with Kurt. That part of the tour, right at the end, when the children connect their keys to the Viendenbourg network - we decided to hook up at that point. Kurt didn't think he'd be able to find a way in through military security in the few minutes we'd have (and he was right - apparently just looking at the gateway practically made his eyes bleed) but he devised a little plan to retrieve some less-guarded files, the dumped corrupt files stored in temporary files on the system.
Which we now have. Most of it is garbage, just strings of meaningless characters, but Kurt said he thought this part looked significant. He thinks there are several files all mangled together and we hoped, well, we thought, that you might be able to help us untangle them? Kurt gave me the original file and the same one in hex too.
ETA: temporaryfilehex.txt is indeed just a hex version of the contents of temporaryfile.txt. I'd suggest using the latter and a decent hex editor.

Imported into Word and it has got some page breaks and column breaks, so that's something at least...

Possibly useful: hex.txt shows both the hex and the associated characters (if any) in parallel, like a hex editor would.
ETA: deleted strings.txt; it was missing the numbers at the front of the error messages (due to not counting newlines as text)

am I missing something? i don't really see any difference between the text file and the hex file translated to text?
It is logical to assume there is something there, otherwise why post it? (TIAG/ TINAG as appropriate to that)

I've pulled out all (I think) the readable text - see attached file. There are some obviously connected blocks, which I'm going to try to put together next. A couple of the things I've included may be irrelevant, there is a number there that stood out for some reason so I've left it in.
There is also a <message begins> <message ends> block, with gibberish in between. I'm wondering if this could be an encrypted message, although it could equally easily be a blind alley...

good work - beat me too it, I was about 2/3 of the way...some REALLY interesting stuff in there:
"subject expired" !
"subject 40% integrated with site infrastructure" !!
"Mjr Maine" prepped for transfer" !!! - now we know where he came from.
there's also a long line with someone breaking up with someone (maybe the Dear Martin?) else as it was too soon after Ian - is this anyone we know?

Laika 212 makes me think of the USSRs dog they sent into orbit back in the cold war...wonder if it was a dog in this case?
Edit: mental note, read all of a document before putting up a post!

Was just doing the same thing! I think there are a couple more dates in there, 269 seems to have been a significant year.
My first impressions...what a lot of dogs (at least I hope all the Laika's were dogs). There are bits of gatehouse logs in there (see here ), which were first seen in Project Syzygy days.
Sente is mentioned.
There are also mentions of someone going to CS for authorisation (Camryn Scott?)
Authoristation was required for "Theta-seven" which seems to have been the move from trying dogs (some of which couldn't be reconstituted) to using volunteers in the form of Majors. One of which obviously lost an arm (it's alright they gave him a false one).
Lots to digest.

just a reminder, this is 269 latest date seems to be Sept 26th, when the girls were on Hobbs Island (and Maine apparently arrived?)

A bit of speculative joining together of bits of the text follows, remember this is all guesswork...
Spoilered in case, first the breakup email, plus it's followup to a mysterious friend...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dear Martin
I don't really know how to say this, and I know it's cowardly of me to do it over keymail, but I think we need to take a break. The past couple of months have been great, and you're a really sweet guy, but I don't know that I'm ready for a new relationship yet, so soon after Ian. I do care a lot about you though, and I hope we can still be friends.
Your friend,
Aparna
Hey Akos
Finally pulled the plaster off. Argh. Said we should still be friends though - mistake? I know you're right - most obvious rebound relationship ever but I still feel bad for the poor little guy. Still, onwards and upwards right?
Drinks tonight?
CT
If I have this right, I'm wondering if Combed Thunderclap is named Aparna
Or I could be just clutching at straws.
Much more interesting, email to Sente. Spec again, of course...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Master Kiteway,
As you are aware, a great deal of progress has been made in recent weeks. Phase one has been securely established and geotargeting is increasing in accuracy.
However, I feel we are reaching the boundaries of our potential with canine subjects. Laika 233 has degenerated severely since her transfer, fluctuating between extreme aggression and self-harm. If we are to fully understand the nature of transference, we must have access to fuller feedback. I propose we initiate Tau-Seven.
CS has approved additional funding and, for my part, I give you my full support.
Go with Gyvann.
Chadwick
Tau-Seven appears to be the move from canine experimentation to human Edit - as MikeyJ already pointed out

So basically our jump from animal to human spaceflight....
Has this been mentioned? these experiments are an attempt to recreate a possible ability of the cube of reality jumping? The cube is a stable fully operaterional reality transfer device which moves CT to Earth, Sente is trying to recreate the ability without actually having the cube. We then get these failed experiments, including the EM affected Major?

heh, I actually tried Aparna myself as a possible subdirectory or email name to the Sentinel and Academy. (roughly can mean "leafless" in Hindu afaik).
will look more later...

Still digging through these, but a quick thought.
"Lab 7, L4" gets mentioned 8 times I think. If our intrepid explorers plan another visit, they might want to try and find it...
