i'm gonna give the PMs mad props for really filling out the characters. all the IG blogs i've read have been single minded, all personal details about a character's life are absent. These PMs are fantastic at creating real sounding characters. BRAVO!

I agree Hy! Whomever is behind this, is creative and very flexible - I love it!

Oh, and I got an interesting email from Sarah...

Quote:
Banana,

I've been up since 6am thinking about Doc/AV and what we can do about it. First some questions:

1. Your group - Have you put any of your work online so that I and others can review and help?
2. Is your group pretty net savvy? I'm thinking we may need to start some blogs or message boards or something for everyone to cooperate.
3. Can your friends mobilize to share ideas with others? I don't really know how you work.

I guess I'm sort of thinking about creating an online detective agency that anyone can participate in. I think we need more people working on the problem - especially Europeans since AV activity seems to be mostly centered there.

Helping Doc:

Those videos really creeped me out. Thanks for showing me those. He is moody but I NEVER suspected he would watch something like that much less be obsessed with it. When you consider his background and what AV is doing to him it makes sense I guess. I don't think I would even be sane so he must be strong.

1. Keep talking to him. I think he likes you. I know he does. You give him hope so keep it up.
2. Is there a way to balance out the negative YouTube stuff he is watching? Comments on his YouTube site? Maybe adding positive videos to our favorites (I don't have a YouTube account but I am getting one). Can we send him positive videos. I am not very spiritual but any kind of positive video, Christian, Buddhist, whatever may help balance his thoughts. Maybe even make our own with messages for him. Maybe setup our own site to counter the negativity (in a positive way!) on his? I dunno lemme know what you think. You probably know more about this than I do.
3. I will try to keep up positive pressure on him here. It's too bad that you two can't be together. Sorry to be so forward but I think you could work wonders in person.

Ok the next one I have mixed feelings about. He mentions "good witches" and seems to think that they can be of assistance. Since we're waging a war for his mind here maybe we should just do what he says? I'm not a believer but if he is can it help maybe it will. As I said last night I don't know any of these people but if we could get them on our side - doing something to help Doc that he can see then maybe it will give him hope.I don't know about the whole good magic vs. bad magic thing actually being real but the mind is pretty weird and it may help.

Ugh, it just hit me how weird all of this is. I'm learning things about the world I'd rather not know.

Doc sent me an email this morning. He sounded pretty good. He has been hiking through memorial park this weekend. I think the long walks help him clear his mind a little.

Hope to talk to you later!

Sarah P

Here is what I sent her, looks like I've got some work to do getting that phbb board set up!

Quote:
Good morning! I tossed and turned myself most of the night, thinking about what we can do to help. I agree we need more people involved. Here's what we have:

1. Online we have http://pathlab.blogspot.com/ which Ardiente started at the Dr's request. I set up http://whoisav.proboards83.com/index.cgi but for some reason it just never really caught on - I can start playing around with it to make it a little more organized. I also wouldn't mind setting you up to be able to moderate along with me.

2. I guess I answered that above Smile

3. Yep, we can get the word out and try to get some more people involved. Actually a quite a few of them are UK based, so that's a start!

I know what you mean about the videos being creepy - they started (his "favorites") from being just a curiosity to looking at really horrific stuff. You can find anything online if you look hard enough! I will keep talking to him, I promised him that I was here for the long haul. I might not be a lot of things, but I do keep my word!

I like your idea of sending him 'happy' videos. I think that might help. On Friday night as a joke I sent him a funny video of a man dancing in a banana costume, and he seemed to enjoy it. One thing that the Dr. has kept through all of his is a great sense of humor - not a day goes by that he doesn't make me laugh. Funny/upbeat videos are a great idea, I'll tell everyone to start doing that!

Yes, since I am about 7 1/2 - 8 hours away, I don't know how feasible it is for me to make it down there anytime soon, but we seem to talk daily (I was asleep, but he hit me up at 7ish this morning) so I will keep in contact with him. My only problem is that I can't IM while I'm at work, only email - so during the day that is the best way for both of you to get ahold of me. Thanks for trying to keep him positive down there, and don't forget to keep an eye on Bill, he's shifty I tell ya! Wink

Look over all of this and let me know what you think. I should be in and out all day but we can catch up eventually!

Thanks for all of your help!
Ang

(oh, and Ardiente - after I sent her the blog link I see that you added her blog, I hope she doesn't get mad LOL!!!)

Just spreading the word Smile

To be frank, (and OOG for a moment) I've babysat too many psychotic cases in the past, to actually want to spend some of my free time doing it now. In game, however, if indeed the Dr is being chased by some form of destiny, I think we ought to be encouraging him to face up to it, to open his eyes to the inevitable. For all we know at the moment, however painful the process might be, it may be to his benefit.

The only thing we know for sure is that "It comes for you". In that phrase, there's no implied sense that he can escape his fate.

I agree completely - we will talk to him about that!

I think the focus now is to spread the word to draw AV out. Tips, James and I are in the process of setting up an IG Board and we've linked to the blog. Any other suggestions? We also set up an IG chat (as well as the current OOG chat that some of us have been using)

(OOG myself for a sec - can I mention that I find it weird that the PM's are expecting us to do this? Is this 'common practice, b/c from what I've seen it isn't - not that I mind doing it)

I was thinking about that. First I thought the PM's simply wanted to get more players, then I thought they wanted character consistency (The dr wouldn't know how to set up that kind of stuff, and it would be too much work for Sarah, who cares little). Now I'm wondering if it's part of the game. Maybe AV will come for us next for involving so much.

Anyhow... The Dr. keep asking for a white witch. With tip we were talking about giving him one. I can make up an e-mail account, and even a youtube one (hey, I may be convinced of even putting up videos) and I can really come up with BS about good magic, rituals and demonic influences.

Should I?

As long as it's convincing, I don't see how it could hurt... He keeps asking for it.

Got another update on the website... I guess we're looking at tomorrow sometime - I haven't received any other correspondance from her yet...

Quote:
Banana,

I hope your day is going better than mine! We are still working on the web site. It's very cool and I'm learning a lot. Maybe too much. I think I will shoot you the location and account stuff tonight or in the morning. Don't share it right away though. You and I will need to work out any kinks. Maybe we can publicise it by Friday night.

I'm going to try and teach Doc how to post updates. I may have to buy a cattleprod first Smile

He keeps talking about a date you two have tonight? Are you in town? I wouldn't mess things up by tagging along on the date but you can't leave without seeing me!

Oh, and I want details Wink

Sarah P.

Her blog has been updated to include a picture called "atrumseniorestprognatus", this translates from Latin into Dark Lord Is(?) Born. The title of the post is Laureola, and the first thing that comes to mind is the plant (PM intended pun?) Daphne Laureola, which is highly toxic. I'll see what I can dig up before I go to work.

Ran /usr/local/bin/stegdetect on the image, it reported F5 (text embedded in header). Opened it up in /usr/bin/less, the header contains the text "JPEG Encoder Copyright 1998, James R. Weeks and BioElectroMech."

JPEG Encoder is a Java library for reading and writing JPEG files, located at http://www.obrador.com/essentialjpeg/jpeg.htm . (Yeah, for some reason that got left out of the Java standard library. No, I don't know why.) This suggests to me that they wrote a Java program to open up an image, do something to it, then save off the resulting file -- and the "JPEG Encoder" stuff got put in the header by the class's .write() method.

So. One thought that occurred to me is that there may be some meaningful difference between the original file and the altered file, i.e., subtract one from the other and you get something useful out of it. Or maybe it's another cipher; I'm not sure.

If someone happens to stumble across the original picture, in the same size, would you let me know? JPEG's twitchy in that if two pics are saved at different quality you can have radical differences in pixel values (woo lossy compression) but this might well be something we could find on Google Image Search.

did a bit of work on this, I focused on the boxes [edit]there are grey boxes on the sides in the picture[/edit], cut the rest of the picture out, and it left me with boxes, when I measured the boxes they fit perfectly in a 10 px grid, like so. So I divided the image with lines and made a print friendly version at 200%. You can get it here. Ends up there are 26 possible rows Smile

Actually, not exactly...but I give ya props, it's close Wink . If I remember my latin correctly, is goes as follows

'atrum senior est prognatus'

atrum-gloomy, dark

senior-head, older, chief, eldest

est-is

prognatus- son of, born, sprung from

Meaning, if we are to switch it around in the best way possible:

"Older dark is born"

Someone wanna break out their Cthulhu-appeasing kit? Because I haven't had enough coffee to deal with dark elder forces. Besides, I'm heading off to bed...time to dream about sporking Sarah with something sharp and pointy.
