[UPDATE] Sentinel - 18 Oct 06 - Economy Shaken

Quote:

Economy Shaken by Sentinel Revelations

By ALWHIN COPI

Businesses and homes across Perplex City have fallen into disarray following the Sentinel's exclusive investigation into corruption at the highest levels of power. PCBC analyst Arno Guthrie says the economic impact could be significant. "With confidence in the administration disappearing, nobody is willing to make long-term financial commitments. Earth-related businesses are gearing up for hard times, and job losses are going to damage the whole city."

Earthworks assistant manager Caryl Hyte agreed, adding that job losses could be the least of their worries. "In the past few weeks, we've had vandals smashing our windows and activists running petitions against us, right outside the door. Even my friends have asked me to reconsider my job. ... The boss has done his best to look after us, but it's getting out of hand."

Meanwhile, in the supermarkets, business is booming thanks to a surge in panic buying. Bottled water and canned goods are at the top of most shoppers' lists. Council members and social leaders have urged the public to remain calm, but for some, the scenes are all too familiar.

"The last time I saw people behaving like this, the Cube had just been stolen," remembered retiree Hank Firstwater. "People rushing about, only thinking about themselves -- it's people that are to blame for the chaos, not politicians."

Until the results of today's elections are in and stability is restored, the people of Perplex City seem destined to feel anxious. Perhaps this time, politicians can prove to be the solution to the problem and not the cause.

I guess we should perhaps wait for the results of the election to see if anything significant shakes loose.

Wonder what the fallout will be if Scott is deposed?

1) She already has been ousted.

2) My speculation is that - should Earlywine replace Scott - that we'll wind up almost totally cut off from Perplex City. We might get tidbits of information through back channels, but I doubt we'll have anywhere near the access we have now.

Well yes, SCott has been ousted, but is still running in the election, no? It's pretty well a given that Scott will lose out to Earlywine, so our source of information will dry up for a bit, until such time as other channels can be opened.
